Different journalists have been weighing in on what might be going on in the pending Wil Myers trade, which (again) is shocking. Myers is a former rookie of the year with raw power and some decent athleticism and a cannon of an arm (thanks to his time as catcher) that we have yet to see displayed. He broke his wrist last season, unable to bounce back properly from the sophomore slump, and has some holes in his swing that can presumably be cleared up with solid coaching.
When Myers got called up to Tampa from Durham, the Durham guys were thrilled when he was called up, they couldn't stand his personality and attitude. They were happy he was out of their clubhouse.
for the last two years the Mariners wouldn't even take calls on Walker, now they're going to ship him out for a guy who would be on his third team in three years and has injury concerns.

Phillips: "Wil Myers is the kinda of guy you want to get back in a trade not the guy you want to trade. His value is the lowest it could be"
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Ian Desmond "remains a possibility" for the Mariners.
The Nationals don't seem optimistic about signing Desmond to a long-term extension, so they might decide to get something for him now even though he'd be a big part of a contending team in 2015. The Mariners are reportedly close to trading for a hitter, and it's possible Desmond might be their guy. The shortstop will make $11 million in 2015 before hitting free agency next winter.

whether or not the Rays would move Longoria, and if so what they might hope to get back. I can't see that, but you never know.
That's a pretty megadeal for someone to take on AND give up significant talent. Money is fair but he's coming off a down season and is signed through 2022. I realize he would get 7-8 years as a FA, I don't doubt that but on top of a massive talent return? I'm not so sure.

Deal announced: @Mariners acquire Justin Ruggiano from @Cubs for relief pitching prospect Matt Brazis, a product of @BCBirdBall.
2 years, $15 million...actually pretty reasonable...
I assume the Yanks are still looking for a veteran closer-type to fall back on if Betances has issues...maybe Grilli, who pitched much better last year after his trade to the Angels...he should come cheap...
This is also Wil Myers, the guy who eats too much fast food, who admitted to not trying very hard, who refused to cut his hair with the rest of the team and staff for charity, who get's as great a wrap as BJ Upton did in Tampa Bay with less defense.

Sounds like one of the pieces in the proposed Wil Myers trade might be on the way to Washington, which has insinuated itself into the deal.

I saw where it could be a 3-team deal with TB, SEA and the Nats.

The Padres are the ones who want Myers.
