NFT: This woman is/was a dumb bitch

DanMetroMan : 12/17/2014 12:09 am
In accordance with the final wishes of a dead Indiana woman, her 9-year-old German Shepard was scheduled to be put to sleep today so the two could be cremated and buried together—a fate the dog has only temporarily avoided.

When Connie Lay of Aurora, Indiana died last month, her will outlined just few options for the care of her dog Bella, considered to be her property in the eyes of the law.

"(Lay) made provisions that in the event of her death, she wanted her very close friend to take charge of the dog," her attorney Doug Denmure told WCPO. "…She also then requested that the dog be put to sleep, cremated and that the dog's ashes be placed with her own ashes."

was concerned her dog may turn to recently legalized marijuana, eat all the food at home causing a mess and become too lazy to pick it up.

buford : 12/17/2014 6:29 am : link
that the dog would wind up in a shelter and be put to sleep anyway. Many older people have that concern for their pets. But she could have made arrangements for someone to take him and leave some money for his care.
There was a situation like this in Seattle
Montreal Man : 12/17/2014 6:54 am : link
about thirty years ago, which led to an argument with my first wife, which led to our divorce.

(Of course there was marriage trouble, but this put the nail in the marriage coffin.)
I never understood that whole thing

This one is simple, you say you're honoring the old bags wishes, then on the morning of you open the back door and whoopsie, Bella escapes and you can't find her.

I don't expect the law to solve these types of problems, common sense does.
bitch!

I see what you did there.

Completely agreed. Especially since we spend most of our time ignoring old people anyway.

Are we killing them first, or just burying them?

A German Shepherd, a very desirable breed, and in the more mellow adult stages would have found a new home.. There are plenty of rescue groups for this breed as well.
My compromise would be to
Headhunter : 12/17/2014 8:41 am : link
bury her in a Pet Cemetary
Just throw in some road kill

A good compromise
Gene : 12/17/2014 9:00 am : link
would be to put down that scumbag of a lawyer and plant his ashes with the old bat. Can't see anyone being upset over that.
You could throw in some gravel and she wouldn't know the difference.

If the woman truely wanted to merge with the dog why not have herself ground into hamburger and fed to her?
Mmmmmmm,

aged crazy-burger.
It makes sense

Some people are put in the ground when they die. Some should be put in the ground....beef. Her incredibly bad taste might be a problem, though.

?
a question
GFiLA : 12/17/2014 10:26 am : link
is the dog terminally ill? If not then maybe the living relatives would entertain keeping their loved one in cold storage until the dog dies of natural causes.
She's fucking dead
rsjem1979 : 12/17/2014 10:32 am : link
You don't have to try to make her happy now, she can't see you anymore.

What a shitty request, though. Almost makes me wish I believed in hell.
"the lawyer says he has to follow what the will states"?
Greg from LI : 12/17/2014 10:35 am : link
What a scumbag. I mean, he IS a lawyer, but even for a lawyer he's a scumbag.
How about find someone willing to adopt
Mike in Long Beach : 12/17/2014 12:34 pm : link
Under the condition that when the dog passes, they have to take care of arrangements to have the dogs ashes buried with the body or something. This is so stupid. You obviously can't just kill the fucking dog.

"Bella was scheduled to be put down Tuesday morning, but that has since been delayed. A lawyer revealed later in the afternoon that the dog could be sent to a shelter in Utah, if enough money is raised."
Maybe the lawyer is the villain here
Ron from Ninerland : 12/17/2014 12:52 pm : link
While everybody is blaming this dead woman who may or may not have been mentally competent how about asking questions about this scumbag lawyer ? Maybe for him its more convenient to kill the dog rather than pay the expenses of keeping it alive, which will cost the estate, which may lower his fee.

Think about it. According to news reports the will says the dog should go to a shelter in Utah OR it should be killed BUT the final decision belongs to her friend. Does that make sense ? With the guidance of a lawyer shouldn't an unambiguous will have been prepared ? I'd be very interested in seeing the fee agreement here.
Speaking of the scumbag lawyer, I did some research on him
Ron from Ninerland : 12/17/2014 1:09 pm : link
Douglas Denmure has had a long unremarkable career, the highlight of which was being suspended from the practice of law in 2005. From the order suspending him, it looks like he didn't file some paperwork on time, but who knows. Other than that I didn't find anything negative or positive about him other than he wouldn't seem to be someone's first choice for an estate planning issue.

He's been practicing since 1966 which would put his age at least 70 years old. Maybe he's the one who should be euthanized
The scumbag lawer was suspended from practice - ( New Window )

Knineteen : 12/17/2014 3:07 pm : link
what provisions can be made to assure a pet is taken care of after the owner dies? And who or what enforces these wishes?

I dunno what her intentions were, but perhaps she was paranoid that the animal would be euthanized at a shelter regardless of what her will stated.
