taking a DE in the first round. I know Colin of GBN has us taking one and I read some others yesterday that say the same thing.
How do BBIer's feel about that? I know Pat Traina has indicated that it would probably depend on what we do in free agency. I am making the assumption here that we may go after an offensive tackle in FA as there does not appear to be great talent on the offensive line in this year's draft.
I would love to hear from those who know more about the college kids and the draft to know who to watch after the Giants are done.
If it were me, I might look at DE in the 1st, Guard in 2nd and maybe Jake Ryan (Michigan) at MLB in the 3rd. Regardless, DE is going to be a need if JPP goes.
2) Who's the HC? (probably Coughlin) January
3) Who's the DC and what kind of defense does he run? (no clue) January-February
4) What happens with Pierre-Paul? March
5) What other moves will the team make in free agency? March-April
6) How is Cruz's rehab progressing at the time of the draft?
7) Is Schwartz fully healthy by the time of the draft?
...and on and on...
The problem with this draft crop at this early stage is it appears there's no left tackle unless the Juniors declare, and the top DEs have question marks regarding best fit. Ie, they look like 3-4 OLBs.
Kind of hard if there are no Big Time OL there or worth the pick...no reaching for position, best player available..team has enough holes..

Dante Fowler could be the pick. At 270 or so, he can hold up against the run, and is a beast off the edge. Ray looks like he might be better as a OLB in a 3-4, and Oakman is too much of a project. Fowler looks like a safer pick.
That's not how the draft works. Stop looking to the draft to fill straight up needs... otherwise you don't end up with players like OBJ

not just because i'm not a fan of either. I think these 2 stink, but even if i'm wrong, and they are good at what they do, There is so much draft analysis out there for free. . . that is at least as good. I don't get it.
Either way, in the top 10, I'm not a fan of the DE's after Leonard Williams an Randy Gregory. I don't think the other guys are going to be the best players available.
still, they should find a way to do it.
Yes and No. He's signed for next year but for 6.9 mil on an extension. I would expect a long term deal with him.

They won't have 10 mil in dead money. Kiwi is the only real dead money addition and if the cut him they will have about 6 mil instead of the 3.5 they currently have.
DE is not a "shiny toy".
It's as big a need as a good tackle. The pass rush sucks.
If we can retain JPP, the Giants can go for the best playmaker again like they did grabbing Beckham. I'm almost positive they will take a DE/DT in the first 3-4 rounds.
But I really want an OLT, and I think there are OLT prospects who will rise to the top echelon of prospects as the draft approaches.

OLT is not a priority. OG is more of a real need. I think they can live with Beatty and Pugh as tackles. They need at least another guard and hope that Richburg is the real deal at C.
I think JPP is the priority resign for the Giants this offseason and I think JR will get it done.
I think Antrel goes, unless he takes a HUGE discount.
So, why did you bother to click on the thread?

so we did not have a need at WR after losing Nicks?
Maybe there aren't any?

Of course we did. But, just like this year, it's not the BIGGEST a need. These guys that want OL or bust have no freaking clue. They'd rather take a guy that has no business getting drafted there than take the better player. But then, they cry when that player doesn't perform. The same guys whining about taking OL at all costs are the same ones whine about "reaching" for Pugh. So yeah, let's do it again, this time in the 1st! Makes sense to me
Gregory is uninspiring and Oakman is grossly overrated because he's huge
we can end up with the #15 pick.
#6-#15
too early to worry about who we're picking
