The reason Coughlin has lasted so long is their is no successor in the ranks. At least until last year when Mara made him hire one.

are not Strahan, Osi & Tuck but they're much more talented than they've shown. The is some good talent on defense for the Giants but back pedaling and playing your assignment defense has no chance in this league anymore. The Giant have more talent than scheme on defense.

I think he looked at his OC and DC and saw that neither one was TC's replacement. So, Gilbride went and McAdoo arrived.
Similarly, this year Fewell will "retire" or leave "for personal reasons" so that a younger DC can arrive as TC's potential replacement.
Then, at the end of 2015, if either McAdoo or the new DC looks like a replacement for TC, then TC will "retire" and either Mc or the new DC replacesTC.
This is what happens when neither the OC (Gilbride) nor DC (Fewell) is a viable HC candidate.
Simply amazing that Tom Coughlin knows who Steve Spagnuolo is. It's as though he knew him in a past life, or worked with him 5 years ago, or something.
Than some others if Fewell is let go. Other than promoting from within.
How long will be the extension of they keep TC? What young and big time up and comer will jump, move his whole family for what might be a one or two year gig.
He was very well liked and TC and he got along
Might not happen but since he's the Raven's DB coach it makes it a promotion and not a move where the giy would need a buy out
