His salary is very high, but IIRC they can cut him with relatively little cap overhang. So it's not really that big a catastrophe - financially. The real problem is that they have to find another QB.
That coaching staff is punch drunk. Unprofessional and on the way out, they're just caving to media and fan pressure. There is no way that they have a better chance to win right now with Cutler on the bench. The scapegoating of Cutler is madness; you'd think he was having a Geno Smith season when in fact he's got a 28-18 ratio (his completion percentage is way down to 55% though).
And the Jeff George comparison is a fucking joke. Cutler has put in a workman like career. He's much more Drew Bledsoe than George.
He's completing 66% of his passes this season and yes the coaching staff is high.
I'm sort of tempted to try and search for old BBI posts on Cutler.
and he always looks like he just doesn't give a shit. Like he'd rather be at the bar downing some drinks than out on the field competing. He's the type of QB you'll never win with. I still can't believe they gave him so much money.
Of course the fool is diabetic as well
RE: Isn't Cutler's contract pretty close to pay-as-you-go?
His salary is very high, but IIRC they can cut him with relatively little cap overhang. So it's not really that big a catastrophe - financially. The real problem is that they have to find another QB.
Not at all...Cutler is owed a fully guaranteed $15.5 million next year, the Bears only option is to trade Cutler this offseason if they want to move on from him. Chicago would absorb $19 million in dead money by releasing Cutler before 2016.
You would have benched him too. And I'm not even talking about his stats or overall play after the snap. I'm talking about his pre snap body language. This had to have been touched on in the game thread but I saw cutlet mouth the words "fuck me" or "oh fuck" during some audibles. Who does that? On numerous occasions cutler would yell out fuck me before changing the play at the line.
I don't care what his stats show. Cutler is a fucking mess out there.

Wow
RE: RE: I'm sort of tempted to try and search for old BBI posts on Cutler.
there is no doubt there are people that aren't huge Eli fans on this board, but even they have to look back and laugh at some of the names that he was compared to.
This is why QB is such a tough position to fill. Josh Freeman had a lot of upside. Matt Schaub was someone who he was compared to. There have been so many names that Eli has been compared to that have either stumbled or are out of the league now. It's funny.

Beyond Eli, who still gets complaints about his "lazed demeanor," look how much shit Tuck would take and did take until his end here, really.

Cutler is -16.2 and Eli is +4.0, in terms of their grading.
Cutler has not had a positively graded game since the second week of the season.
Tuck didn't get shit for not being fiery though, he took it over being constantly injured. Eli's been graded on his facial expressions alone by some people.
yup, big arm, flashes of brilliance mixed in with a general indifference and bad attitude. introducing your starting QB for the washington redskins in 2015!!
He was basically some weak willed fraudulent quitter because he made the mistake of not just speaking in LOUD cliches or yelling as much as Rolle or Pierce did.
Just in time to completely screw Alshon Jeffery in fantasy superbowls.

The reason Cutler benched. He has $16M injury guar in '16. 10M becomes fully guar 3rd day LY in '15. If a major injury then Bears on the hook
Tuck admitted that he needed a change in mindset in 2011

#Jets are slated to have $41,415,680 in cap next year (Per OTC). With Cutlers contract, Jets would still have 14th-most cap space (est)

Jay Cutler has thrown for 3,640 yards (in 14 games) this year. No #Jets QB has passed for more yards than that in a season in 15 years.

Vinny Testaverde threw 29 TDs in 1998. Thats the best season a #Jets QB has ever had. Cutler has 28 with two games still to play.

Since Jay Cutlers second year in the NFL, he has thrown 174 TDs. Jets QBs have thrown 134 in 18 additional games.

That $2m in dead cap space the #Jets would pay a cut-Cutler post-2016 is $2.8m more than #NYJ are paying Sanchez this year.

If #NYJ draft a young QB this year, let him play behind Cutler for two years, then cut Cutler. It would cost team $2m in dead cap #NYJ

Is Jay Cutler perfect? No. Does he have flaws? Absolutely. Would he be the best available QB & better than what #Jets have? 100 percent.
Not at all...Cutler is owed a fully guaranteed $15.5 million next year, the Bears only option is to trade Cutler this offseason if they want to move on from him. Chicago would absorb $19 million in dead money by releasing Cutler before 2016.
I think you meant 2015.....
They are basically stuck with him until after next year.....
When you watch him play, if he gets into a "rhythm", with no pressure, he looks like the greatest thing since the wheel.....but he has games like last week, and also against the Patriots, where he just looks like he is numb to his surroundings.....but more often than not, in big games, he looks like an accident waiting to happen......
The Bears have observed this guy themselves, over the years, and somehow still gave him that big contract....they have no one to blame but themselves....

Next years hit (dead money) is $19,500,000.00! His salary is $16,500,000.00 (0's are for effect), so it seems it hurts less to trade him or keep him next year! Link - ( New Window )
Anyone who has watched the games, not just look at the stats after the fact, knows this. Now I'm not sure Claussen is any better, in fact hes probably worse. The Bears need a QB.
people questioning Eli's leadership qualities because he isn't firey or vocal. Man, I miss those days of people thinking that leadership = being loud.
Herm Edwards would disagree with you. He said just today on ESPN, Eli Manning is not a leader because he never gets vocal. But he said you don't need to be a leader to win. Fucking putz. Steven A disagreed with him.

Who said the Giants were better then them?
He's got two twin towers on the outside and a strong TE over the middle, and a pretty good RB.
The entire offensive staff is toast and the blemish on Cutler's record is going to be hard to overcome as well.
What? Eli doesn't have that swagger? Child, please...

Another classic example of how stats make someone look better than they really are.
Check out ESPN before Monday Night's game. Cutler is leaving simple throws out there. Then Gruden was killing him during the game.
He's playing sub par football for a guy with his experience.
Since Jay Cutlers second year in the NFL, he has thrown 174 TDs. Jets QBs have thrown 134 in 18 additional games.
