Sources tell ESPN.com that the Celtics and the Mavericks have an agreement in principle to send the All-Star point guard to the Dallas Mavericks for Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and a future first- and second-round draft pick.
I'm pretty bummed. Basically wright and a couple late picks for ur best player. And as I said on the earlier thread, I don't hate wright or anything but I do hate him as the center piece of the deal
fan too I am also disappointed, but at the same time for a Rondo rental not sure what I expected.
I just don't really know what Ainge's plan is, I would have been fine extending Rondo as a Celtic, now that he's gone the team is worse not better, so wondering how he plans to rebuild.
its not like he is some mega star and the market is deep for him in his last year of a deal.
they got something... a complimentary piece, some picks, and didnt take on any bad salary.
Im not sure what people think they could have gotten for him?
Danny the Genius has a million picks the next 3 years, even at the lower end, to use them all or repackage a few in '16 or '17 to have a great young team.
Bad news:Danny the Idiot will screw up.
The guy is a major vacuum cleaner as GM...he sucks.
can get fired and get another front office job and bail out Ainge (again).
I like the Smart pick. Olynck is kind of sneaky in a complementary kind of way - he can have a role on a winner, they can rebuild, but you need at least one superstar and two other very good players to compete for a title.
I don't know if Smart is one or not, but I like him.
I think trading Jeff Green has to happen next, he's the softest 20 ppg (or close to it if he's not there) player I can recall.

After all these years, I still haven't gotten over the Perkins trade. I look at Green and it still bothers me.

Like others I believe that trade cost them a championship.
Rondo is a huge upgrade for them but he'll have to shoot better from the perimeter for the Mavs to reap the full benefit. Teams out west are just going to sag off Rondo and dare him to shoot from 15-23 feet out

Teams in the East did that and he was still one of the better PGs in basketball. I don't think playing out West will change that.
I'm pretty disappointed like everyone seems to be. For that haul, why not just hold onto him until the deadline and see if a team gets desperate and offers a little more. It's not hard to top that offer. But I guess Ainge really wanted to be able to move some of these incoming pieces before the deadline.
They would like to move Green for a first but I don't see anyone giving up a decent first rounder for him. I guess the Celtics future hinges on getting lucky with a great draft pick or trading a million first rounders for a good young disgruntled player.
right now is beyond me. This seems like a "fine we will take it since something is better then nothing" kind of offer and you would think that BOS would wait until they knew no better offer was coming. Taking this offer at the deadilne would have made a lot more sense to me.
My guess as to why the Cs did this and did it now.....
It's no secret anymore as to how teams need to rebuild. By trading their best player, they are going to ensure that they are going to get the best pick possible.

exactly- especially in a limited draft

Rondo must have told Ainge there was no way he was returning
amd mot at the deadline is because Boston wanted the flexibility to be able to flip the players they acquired before the deadline...the cut off was today...
the weirdest athletes for me to figure out. I think he's overrated to a degree because he can be an "empty-stat" player. His lack of shooting is also absolutely pathetic for a PG.
But he's the definition of a floor general and he has Championship experience.
I didn't want him in Houston because I don't view Rondo/Harden as a good fit together. Rondo is a guy that needs the ball in his hands to make an impact since he can't shoot, which just wouldn't fit on the Rockets. But I feel like he's a much better fit for the Mavs and I'm definitely atleast a little scared of the Mavs now.
Rondo is going to help Parsons and Tyson Chandler bigtime imo. I can already envision the Rondo to Chandler PnR game which should result in tons of alley oops. And Parsons should benefit bigtime from the dimes Rondo throws him. And Dirk's gonna Dirk.
My concern with Rondo to Dallas is with Monta Ellis. Dirk's still the man in Dallas but Monta has been taking on a much bigger role this year and now he'll have to relinquish that role to let Rondo do his thing. I'm just not sure how the Rondo/Ellis backcourt is going to work.
Another even bigger concern for me is Dallas' defense which is their real issue...
Dallas
1st in O Rtg
22nd in D Rtg
They're already the Top O in the league, how much is Rondo really going to help there? It's their D that sucks and now they traded away their only other interior defensive presence besides Chandler.
I'd still say this is a good move for Dallas. Rondo in the playoffs is one of those guys that can take over a series. But I still don't view Dallas as a Top 3 team in the league or a true Championship contender just yet, their D is still a question mark.
have 8 first round picks the next 4 years and with their own ineptitude, not quite inept enough with teams like the Knicks and Sixers in the East not sure even 8 picks help them,
Color me shocked.

Is Jeff Green next?
The new CBA is crippling teams that have little talent, and a big ticket player or two.

He's leading the league in assists per game, and isn't far away from averaging a triple double per game.
He might be injury prone, but at 28 I wouldn't say he's in decline, and what has he done in a long time? Look at his last few games.
Bad news:Danny the Idiot will screw up.

Rondo told the Celtics to trade him, he's not coming back and he's testing free agency.
under the circumstances - rondo interested in FA, final year of his deal, coming off the ACL, etc. there probably wasn't a better offer.
But he's the definition of a floor general and he has Championship experience.

they might need to package a few for a superstar.
