on Mike and Mike this morning? May not be exact transcription, but close.
Greenie: 'What did you take away from his first start?
BB: 'That he's not an NFL QB. That his skill set won't transfer from college to the NFL.'
Greenie: 'Do you expect to see major improvement in his 2nd start?'
BB: 'Major improvement? You mean like completing a pass? You mean like converting a 3rd down?'
It's not often you here an ex-coach just totally destroy a player like he did.
Definitely surprised me.
I agree.
I agree.
It is stupid and immature, his whole act is. I watched bits and pieces of that game during commercials of the giants game, manziel looks like a midget on an NFL field.
He's a huge star now, got national commercials and everything.
He should consider bypassing stardom and studying some game film.
If feel that way for a guy like Tebow. Manziel is a douchebag. He deserves people wishing he fails. If he does well, it will be no sweat off my back.
I bet.
Not even sure what makes Manziel a douchebag, other than him living the life every 20-25 year old wishes he could.
No, but feel bad for Tebow. Who refused to play any other position that could have made him an actual NFL player, because he wanted the spotlight of being a QB.
That guy's a joke -- an "offensive genius" who can't score an offensive TD in five games, needs a historically great defense to win the Super Bowl, and doesn't so much as find even a decent starting QB in his years at Baltimore.
Not saying Manziel will be great or even good, just that Billick doesn't know shit.
If you disagree on Manziel that fine but I'm not some random guy calling him a douche. That's the general feedback I get when I hear people talk about him. And spare me his age bullshit. He's no longer a kid and has been questioned already about his work ethic. Why don't all 20-25 year old star athletes act like him? Absolutely hate that excuse.
The sports media has made him their own personal toy.

He's no longer a kid? He just turned 22 and is not even a full year removed from college.
I think you'd be in a better position if you asked why not all 20-25 year old QBs act like Manziel, because a lot of athletes certainly act like him. Ahmad Bradshaw partied just as hard as he played on the football field.
But who cares how he acts? He's not a criminal and he's not hurting anybody. He's just having fun at the age where it's reasonable to have fun. It's obviously not interfering with his work if he won the starting job. He must have impressed in practice. Lets see how he does the rest of the season, and his career.
I'll be rooting for him.

Agree. I've heard Billick make some good comments, but trashing Manziel because he was awful in his rookie debut is silly. Manziel is a loudmouth, but passing judgement on him as a QB now is absurd.
Im guessing that Billick was asked about Manziel one too many times.
I was sick of the bullshit hype. I enjoyed the beating he took.
Why would anyone want to root for manziel? Seriously.

but if I'm going to root for a guy to stick it to haters I'll root for the one who isn't a douchebag.

It doesn't matter if a lot of athletes act like him. He wants to be a starting quarterback. You need to show maturity and leadership as a qb. You can't be going around, puffing out your chest, making money signs when you haven't accomplished a thing in the league. Let Bradshaw party all he wants. He won't make or break a team. The qb position will.
Russel Wilson at that age didn't act like Manziel. Neither did luck or Eli.
I think he got the staring job more on a combination of hoyer's ineptitude and fan/media pressure than pure earning it.
Time will tell. Hope I'm wrong but he can't fall back on just being a 22 year old. He's one of 32 starting qbs in the league and needs to act like one
Billick would now... another rookie Loser he once faced went 4-18, 27 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs late in his first pro season. Guy never amounted to anything.
Clearly they should go ahead and cut Manziel now. He's done.

Being 22 years old is an excuse because 22 year olds mature and grow up. I expect the same out of him.
Hoyer's shit show performance definitely played a part, but I refuse to believe Manziel did whatever the fuck he wanted at practice and they gave him the starting job because the fans want it. He must have been putting the work in and practicing like he wants the starting job.

I see what you did there.
+1. He's an exciting player to watch, love him or hate him his passion to win is obvious, and if the QBs we revere as legends were under the kind of scrutiny today's young players are we would probably look at them differently. I forget who it was here who quoted a long time league personnel guy who said Montana and Manziel had quite a bit in common with regards to off the field activities, those things just weren't reported then. Some of the gambling/partying/women escapades of a number of 70s and 80s sports teams match top rock n roll bands in their debauchery. The Flyers of the 70s for example were absolutely notorious partiers/womanizers/gamblers.
I'm not saying he doesn't sometimes come off like an ass. But put in his position, at that age, with that money, with that many cameras in your face? I did stupid shit at 22 without having to worry about handling absurd amounts of money and carrying the hopes of a desperate city on my shoulders. Plenty of us, myself included, would have our own set of face palming moments. I really don't think the young guys are getting dumber, we're just getting unprecedented access into their lives.v
When you don't prepare correctly, have limited ability to read defenses with minimal experience you will look awful as an NFL QB. You cannot make one read and run in the NFL, especially as small as he is.
Maybe that embarrassment last week will straighten him out(re - head to the film room).
Not a fan at all, but still hope he does better. I doubt he does.
The sports media has made him their own personal toy.
So why should that be held against Manziel?
Tim Tebow is a douchebag? Since when? What did that guy ever do? It's not his fault Urban Meyer didn't develop him at all for the next level.
I thought he would bust too but I don't care one way or the other. But that money sign thing made him a target and he will be seeing it alot this year.
I think his only lighting it up will get him suspended for the leagues illegal substance abuse policy ...
Gruden on Johnny - ( New Window )
[quote] He kept drafting them in Baltimore. Kind of amusing to see the guy who thought Elvis Grbac and Kyle Boller were legit QBs act so tough on kids. [/quote

it's ridiculous that people are already writing this kid off after 5 quarters of football. I get it that this pick was probably largely influenced by the owner, but how do teams like Buffalo with EJ Manuel and the Browns with Manziel invest high picks in these guys and then bail on them after 10-15 games. Hard to believe that these GM's are employed in such a capacity
