Today was the death blow to that franchise. Owner said that if was not allowed to look outside of St. Pete for a new stadium he would eventually sell the team and then of course they would most likely eventually move.

Too bad really, but it's over now.

I agree....it was ridiculous.

Baltimore, Cleveland and Texas built great ballparks right after this indoor dungeon of a shithole stadium was constructed, in hopes of luring the SF Giants.
Location sucks too. There is a direct correlation between attendance and population density within a certain radius of the ballpark. In that respect I believe the current stadium location is either the worst or second worst in baseball.
Disappointed that Rays won't be able to move across the bay and that this may be the end of MLB in our area.
The stadium was horrible, they've already had a grassroots program and clearly would be the top contender. Read the link. They've already got pre season games, and the Canadain dollar and revenue sharing is much more easier to handle.
Baseball is not going to come to NC.

Don't the Lightning though play in St. Pete?

The "Trop" was the last stadium built before they figured out how to build stadiums with some character.

No they play in Tampa....so tell me....what is the difference between Montreal's shitty stadium and the Rays shitty stadium? The Rays should be given the chance to explore every loacation in the Tampa area and they have been shot down.
The Rays will have to move out of sheer embarrassment.

It's pretty obvious for the reasons I mentioned. Ask MontrealMan.
An excerpt:
The reason the Rays aren’t moving ties into their deal with the city. The Rays never signed a traditional lease. Rather, it signed a “Use Agreement”, which prevents the team from moving out of Tropicana Field and calls for potentially catastrophic monetary damages should the Rays abandon the stadium before its deal is up in 2027. This is in stark contrast to a traditional lease, where a tenant owes the landlord what’s left on that lease after breaking it.

I live about an hour East of Tampa. To get to a Rays night game I have to leave before 3 in the afternoon otherwise I run right into Tampa rush hour traffic. There is only one bridge/causeway from Tampa to St. Pete that I can take and it's a nightmare!
When I visit my cousin in St. Pete it only takes 1 1/2 hours. She doesn't live to far from the stadium.
Most people from this side of tampa don't go for that reason.
If they put a stadium on the East side near the Fair grounds and the casino. People from the Orlando Area would then go more often.
