NFT: Duke vs UConn

UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 8:47 pm
good game so far, didn't expect this good of defense so far. Despite the stupid fouls we are commuting we are in it. We need the 3s to fall soon though...
These fouls are killing us

stop hacking for no reason
At game..

Duke really getting out hustled to start 2nd half..
We can't keep missing these open shots
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 9:21 pm : link
outplaying them isn't enough, we need big shots to go down.
We look awful

You're welcome. I just a bitter Cuse fan.
Okafor's spin move is a thing of beauty

I actually think UConn will be pretty good
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 9:36 pm : link
by mid season. My fear is racking up 7 or 8 early losses. We don't play in a good enough conference to get in the dance with much more than 11 or so losses.

Who will also probably go in the top 10
Jesus, Okafor is like a man among boys out there

UConn has done a pretty good job
JCin332 : 12/18/2014 9:43 pm : link
Defending him..what I have been impressed with the most watching him live is his passing ability..
We have really bad big men
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 9:46 pm : link
so I'm shocked he's not going nuts this game. We are just tenacious which will keep us in most games.

I really hope Ollie can land a decent big soon.
They need a shooter too
jgambrosio : 12/18/2014 9:48 pm : link
they've been terrible from outside the key
Yup
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 9:50 pm : link
I miss thhe big time Shabazz/Giffey shots.
Ughh
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 9:51 pm : link
in and out would have cut it to 5
Looked like a walk
UConn4523 : 12/18/2014 10:05 pm : link
would have been nice
Another sparkling performance from Karl Hess saved the day for Duke

I particularly liked when Tyus Jones drew a foul by throwing an NFL-quality stiff arm.

UConn got hosed with foul calls down the stretch. Continuously took away momentum. Poorly officiated game all around.
Yeah i thought that foul
beatrixkiddo : 12/19/2014 9:33 am : link
should have been the other way around too greg. Bad officiating.

Uconn needs some more pieces unfortunately. Brimah getting into early foul trouble screwed them. But they seriously need a Big on their team, they lack size, although make up for it with speed. They also need a consistant outside shooter. The days of Lamb, Napier, and Giffey are done, someone needs to step up.

Boatright always reminded me of Kemba lite. speedy, shifty, plays his heart out all the time. He can carry the team, but he needs contributors around him. I like Hamilton a lot, I think he will develop into a fine young player. Hopefully he and Brimah step up their games next year and they can build this team sort of in the mold of the 2009(?) team; Brimah being the Thabeet type center.
Brimah
UConn4523 : 12/19/2014 9:41 am : link
has improved drastically and defends the paint well when guards penetrate but he cannot body up a big man with decent or better moves. I can't hate him for it, he hasn't been playing long and I applaud his positive attitude and work ethic.

I'd love another Jeff Adrien. Someone who can handle post up moves with great footwork and can get those dirty rebounds. With our perimeter play we don't need an amazing center, just need someone who can keep us from getting pounded on the glass.
as for the fouls
UConn4523 : 12/19/2014 9:49 am : link
we had some really dumb ones. Stupid hacks that allowed and-1's and too many that came before they even crossed half court.

Wish the refs eased up a bit in the 2nd half though, a few down the stretch were very iffy and we didn't get the benefit of any of them that I can remember.

We likely lose either way, happy to see it was close, however.
of course you didn't get the benefit of any calls
Greg from LI : 12/19/2014 9:54 am : link
You were playing Duke. Q.E.D.
If Brimah
beatrixkiddo : 12/19/2014 10:08 am : link
had some weight on him I don't think it would be an issue with guarding big guys. He's just very skinny for a C that size, and very lanky, he draws fouls at ease. I love his blocking however, reminds me of Thabeet a little. He has improved his game quite a bit from last year, He, Hamilton, and Cassel are the building blocks for the future.
I mean
beatrixkiddo : 12/19/2014 10:10 am : link
Terrance Samuel, not Sam Cassell.
Is Samuel ok?
UConn4523 : 12/19/2014 10:14 am : link
that hit to the knee didn't look good. Hopefully it was just a bruise or hyper extension.
Good exhibition level game for Duke
Rob in NYC : 12/19/2014 10:18 am : link
work on some things before the break and the conference schedule starts.
No,
beatrixkiddo : 12/19/2014 10:28 am : link
the player landed on Samuel's ankle. It looked pretty bad. Hopefully just a bad sprain, but he was clearly in a lot of pain. I wouldn't expect him back anytime soon.
