NFT: Very first Flash comic (1939) on ebay for $5 million

Bake54 : 12/19/2014 10:23 am
This is an ashcan edition from DC. Graded out at 9.6 - the highest ever for an ashcan. Only 6 known copies.

Ashcans are promotional editions that are unfinished. Back then it was used to secure the copyright for the Flash title. Very rare.

Anyone unfamiliar with it, should google 'tulipomania' or tulipmania

The other day I was curious about comic sales on eBay, and I took a look at the “Completed Listings” section, just to see what has been selling. To my surprise, the first result was a CGC 9.6 copy of FLASH COMICS #1 ASHCAN EDITION from 1939, that had sold for $4,950,990.00. What! Yes, you read that correctly, almost five million dollars. That’s more than three times the current record holding sale. Well, as it turns out, the sale didn’t go through. The comic is listed for sale once again, only this time it’s for an even $5,000,000. That extra $49,010 should help to keep the riffraff away.

if you are curious about comic book history
there is must read book
Men of Tomorrow

it tells the whole story about how comic books came to prominence

one interesting fact is the Flash , Hawkman were actually part of a separate sister company than DC Comics called All American Comics
in early 1940's they merged into one company

Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book - ( New Window )

Funny thing is, Flash isn't even in it. If were you to open it and read it, it'd be gibberish with unfinished art and no coloring.
