"I feel good. I'm about nine and a half weeks post-surgery, so I'm on my own two feet right now," Cruz said. "The Doctors say they've never seen someone repair themselves this quickly before. So I just want to take my time, but make it a little [faster] at the same time. But I feel great." |
Long way to go. He has to maintain a full range of motion, regain his speed, is COD and hope it doesn't pop again.
It's good news but like the link says "he still has a long road of rehab ahead". Check back when it's a short road.
Yeah. Take with a grain of salt.
Same with David Wilson.
Same with Kenny Phillips. His injury was very common and fixable. Ahead of rehab schedule. Couldn't wait to be "let loose" again!
Meh.
You don't appear to be all that great at reading.
It certainly is nice to read this first report being so optimistic.
He may not be quite the same player, but even if he is 75-80% of what he was, the combination of Beckham, Cruz and pretty much any other NFL caliber receiver will set us up nicely. Even Randle (if he could even pull his head halfway out of his ass) could be a competent 3rd option with those other two on the field.
We will also have another year of development for Harris or Washington.

Meh.
All those scenarios are entirely different. Comparing Wilson's injury and prognosis to knee surgery isn't wise.
Player has devastating injury. Player has surgery. Player rehabs. Rehab is ahead of schedule. Player feels great. Glowing comments from doctors.
And then they're never the same.
I hope as much as the next guy that Cruz returns to his former self but I think we've all seen this play out the same way far to often in recent years. Its just hard for me to be optimistic anymore.
Advances in medicine and some luck will be in our favor ones of these days. No reason it can't be with Cruz. If it isn't meant to be, then I'll worry about that then.
We've heard this song and dance before with many guys who said they are having a miraculous recovery and then they are out of football. And it has happened with this team a lot recently.
As others have said, we hear this a lot from players that they're doing better than expected etc. and if often isn't the case by training camp.
I think the comments on his size and weight helping him are true, but he does need his ability to turn on a dime to return.
My hope is that he can return as a #3 or # 4 receiver; I hold no realistic hope of him fully returning to his former self.
The Giants need a legitimate #2 WR, maybe in the 2nd or 3rd round or FA, but the OL and DL need to be the draft focus (provided players warranting that high a pick are available when the Giants pick).
I merely have posted 3-4 articles from sports medical experts who said that Cruz's injury is career-threatening.
We had this same damn debate last year with David Wilson and I was told I was an idiot then too.
I do not know if this is one of the articles that Eric included.
However, what I found most interesting were the comments at the end of the article by David J.Chao, MD.

This YEAR? =)
Cruz a fave. Would love for his optimism to play out to reality, but team and we won't know for quite some time, certainly not until after next draft.
Injuries are unpredictable.....but when players have some type of history of injuries, or have not shown the ability to play a whole season, how do you sink money into them or flat out count on them the following year?
We walked away from Bradshaw, Nicks, etc.....Who do we walk away from next year?
As for Cruz, this is two straight years, and this one is much more serious......do you count on him, or do you get a replacement, and if he returns, it's like a bonus....same with Beason......
We all know you are a moron, but now you're resorting to making up shit?
PFT--No current contract talks for Randall Cobb - ( New Window )
Rooting for a comeback for Cruz, but there's a very bright silver lining here.
Guys coming away from playing with Peyton/Brees/Brady/Rodgers scare me due to their new home likely being a less effective offense.
like Eric said, we really don't know, and of course everyone is wishing for the best.

The odds are in favor of Cruz coming back close to 100% by all accounts. IN a few months when he starts testing the knee out we will know more, but i'll take this news as a positive.
