NFT: Knicks Offseason Plan

TyreeHelmet : 12/19/2014 11:57 am
In season moves

Trade Shumpert for a late 1st round pick or a couple 2nd picks

Trade Calderon for an expiring contract- if you can get any more for him great, but clear his salary from the books

Trade JR for anything- if that means using Shumpert to dump him- I'm all for it. If untradeable- pray he opts out or use stretch provision of him. I don't think it will be hard to trade him if you attach 3mill cash and future 2nd round pick.

Go all in on tank and make sure you finish bottom 3 records which guarantees you a top 4 pick. Pray we get Okafor or draft Towns.

Free Agents

Working with around 35 million in cap room. Sign Danny Green, Draymond Green and Goran Dragic.

Danny Green- 8/9 mill a year
Draymond- 10-12 a year
Dragic- 12-15 Mill a year

Other FA targets
Gasol( Pipe dream)
Aldridge- long shot at best
Leonard and Jimmy Butler- both restricted but great players
Affalo or Wes Matthews- Similar to Danny Green, good two way player who can shoot

2015 Lineup

Dragic
Green
Melo
Green
Okafor

Would still need to fill out the bench but I would love this team. All a Knick fan has is hope nowadays and this is what one fan is hoping for. What do you guys think? Realistic? Crazy?
Hasn't
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 11:59 am : link
been mentioned much for the Knicks but Draymond Green would be absolutely perfect in the Triangle. Would love adding him.
Green
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 12:00 pm : link
is not a FA after the year according to Sportrac.
Green
TyreeHelmet : 12/19/2014 12:00 pm : link
Draymond would be perfect next to Melo. Guard the opposing teams best forward and be able to space the floor on offense.
He's
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 12:02 pm : link
restricted. Can't see GS letting him go. I'd love him though. Perfect fit.
My expectation
bceagle05 : 12/19/2014 12:02 pm : link
is that we get very little help in free agency this year. We have to pray for Okafor and hope he and Carmelo are enough to lure Durant or Davis the following season.
I think a realistic off season is
nygiants16 : 12/19/2014 12:03 pm : link
Okafor draft Monroe free agency dragic free agency and if they can swing it affalo free agency...

Dragic affalo melo Monroe Okafor

Remember knicks c an now sign and trade again
For the Knicks
EricNY33 : 12/19/2014 12:07 pm : link
I prefer Karl Towns over Okafor. I do like Okafor, but I think Towns is a better overall talent.

Nothing about assuming the Knicks get the #1 pick in the draft is realistic.

C'mon Eric, you just know we are picking 4th in a "3 player" draft. :)

LOL... most likely. We'll end up with the worst record and not get a top 3 pick.

Towns has more potential but drafting potential is always scary...Okafor looks like a ready product...
And
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 12:11 pm : link
then "some scouts actually preferred Looney to Okafor and Towns", which will be repeated on BBI ad nausem lol
On the flip side

if the Knicks do win the lottery are we gonna hear that it was rigged for the NBA's biggest market? After all, it will be the 30th Anniversary of the Knicks winning the Ewing lottery.

Its going to be Lakers, Knicks 1-2 and its going to create so much talk that the NBA is going to love it...
I'm hoping the NBA "fix"
bceagle05 : 12/19/2014 12:16 pm : link
is to have someone other than Philly win the lottery. We'd be sitting pretty if karma catches up to them.

I just love his defensive prowess and I think he'd be a great fit for this group. I also like Myles Turner a lot if the Knicks fall out of the top 3.
I just think
nygiants16 : 12/19/2014 12:20 pm : link
If Knicks are sitting there at 1 or 2 and its between Towns and Okafor i dont think the Knicks pass on Okafor who is more ready to contribute right away...I think with Melo in place i think Jackson goes with the player that is most NBA ready...

Then go into the off season who Melo and Draft pick and hope Melo Fish and himself can go out and recruit guys on the basis of building a fresh start in New York with a new culture..
I'd
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 12:22 pm : link
be stunned if the Knicks passed on Okafor for Towns if they really had that choice. I get preferring Towns upside but it's not so vast that it's worth passing on the "sure thing". I think Okafor is going to be very good. His body looks like it could be sculpted and still pack on 10-20 pounds. He could be a 6'11 280-290 monster in 1-2 years.
What i want to see start happening
nygiants16 : 12/19/2014 12:25 pm : link
is start selling off players for draft picks...

Unless they are trading for a monroe or Dragic, i want them selling...

Let Melo rest this year, this season is over its time to embrace the tank and start building towards next season...

Try and sell off players like JR smith and Calderon, see if someone is willing to give up a pick to get them..

Let THJR, Early, Wear, Aldrich, and bring up Thanasis and see what they can do...Bring in some dleague guys maybe catch lightning in the bottle with someone...

Hopefully you can somehow gain some more picks and this way you can add cheap young players since a lot of the money is going to spent trying to bring higher end guys..this way you do not have to have 5 or 6 vet minimum type guys, bring in young guys through the draft to rebuild your bench...
nygiants
DanMetroMan : 12/19/2014 12:28 pm : link
agreed. Time to start adding picks, even 2nds that you stash for a few years.
I think Okafor is the easy #1 pick
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 12/19/2014 12:30 pm : link
he just looks like a safe bet to be an impact Center in the NBA.

Mudiay is so intriguing though. One of the most athletic guard prospects I've seen in a while. He feels like the ultimate boom or bust pick in this draft.
my plan
JOMO25 : 12/19/2014 12:31 pm : link
Put entire roster on the block in hopes of acquiring late 1s, maybe some 2s in 2015.

Draft: Hopefully Okafor.

Late 1, early 2 targets: Frank Kaminski, Jerian Grant (perfect triangle PG)

Free agency targets: 1) Marc Gasol 2) Greg Monroe 3) Tobais Harris
I'm not sure
Sgrcts : 12/19/2014 12:40 pm : link
There is a player on the entire Knicks roster who would net you a first outside of Melo. Seconds are somewhat realistic. No one trades firsts in season really anymore. Rondo got a first and despite flaws is way better then anything Knicks have to trade.
nygiants I totally agree
Giants11 : 12/19/2014 12:46 pm : link
people poo poo low 1st rounders/2nd rounders but look at guys like Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert they were picker like 27 or 28. These are the types of guys that give you quality depth.

Recent history on 2nd's is pretty good and stashing guys always gives you a shot at something. I've long felt if you could stash non-euro's in europe some of these "busts" wouldn't have been busts at all because they would develop their games.
I'm another vote for Okafor
Greg from LI : 12/19/2014 1:00 pm : link
His floor is high. Put him in a pro S&C program and, like Dan said, you're looking at a 6'11" 280 beast of a man. Highly skilled, good passer, great footwork. He can learn to play defense.

Towns' ceiling might be higher, but what are the chances he maxes out his potential? 20%? Maybe 30%?
I like Okafor
EricNY33 : 12/19/2014 1:22 pm : link
a lot and would not be upset at all if the Knicks were to get him. I just prefer Towns.
If the Knicks could add a 2nd 1st rd pick
Scott Brunner : 12/19/2014 1:25 pm : link
I really like what I've seen out of Wright the PG from Utah. Perfect size for the Triangle and appears to have a nice stroke along w/ strong D.

manh george : 12/19/2014 1:56 pm : link
Getting a potential top star point guard instead of a big has benefits, including the fact that there are more quality bigs around in FA than PGs.
Hard to figure how Chuck has all of this time to contemplate

I'm sure the Knicks would take him 3rd if he were there but keep in mind a Phil Jackson championship team has never had/focused on the PG position. Plus a potential Melo/Monroe/Okafor trio could overwhelm teams.
Dan
manh george : 12/19/2014 2:02 pm : link
Don't disagree on that about Okafor. I was thinking more on if we pick 2 or 3 and Okafor is off the table. I am also assuming that if the guard we add is as big and athletically talented as Mudiay, the triangle can be modified to fit him, rather than the other way around.
Interesting

thing is the 2 best centers in the NBA might be Gasol/Cousins and Okafor seemingly has a similar skillset (I realize Dwight Howard belongs up there and is a freak athlete). Pistons are awful but how the hell did teams like Drummond fall to 9?

Greg from LI : 12/19/2014 2:09 pm : link
Explosive athlete on the wing who has developed a sweet jumper this year, a high flier who plays excellent defense and blocks a lot of shots for a 6'6" guy. Not sure he's going to leave this year, though.

The New York Knicks' rough start is going to cost Madison Square Garden shareholders a projected $6 million in profits.

The estimate was put forth Friday by Rich Tullo, director of research for Albert Fried & Company, which covers the MSG stock.

"As the Harlem Globetrotters are the only New York professional [basketball] team winning in Madison Square Garden this season, we cut our estimates to reflect light TV ratings," Tullo wrote.

Through last week, the New York Daily News reported that average viewers per game was down almost 20 percent as compared to a similar point in the season last year.

"Following more than 20 games highlighted by creative destruction, we think the sample set is large enough to determine lower estimates," Tullo wrote.

At 5-23, the Knicks have the second-worst winning percentage in the league (.179), ahead of only the Philadelphia 76ers.

Tullo said that Madison Square Garden is insulated somewhat from a bad season in that only 30 percent of revenues from the MSG Network come from advertising, while the rest is made up of affiliate fees that are locked in. Ticket revenues are also a somewhat steady business.

"Our view is New York in the winter is a basketball town," Tullo wrote. "Thus owing to great teams visiting the Knicks and sports tourists, we think the demand for 41 Knicks games and its 18,500 seats is somewhat inelastic in the short term."

Over the last three months, MSG stock is actually up more than 14 percent.

signing the two Greens and Goran
oipolloi : 12/19/2014 3:17 pm : link
would make the Knicks a 35 win team

SIGNING Gasol makes them maybe a 40-5 win team for about two years until age gets both Gasol and Melo and then they would be a 30-5 win team until those two contracts expired

nothing in this free agent class that is making the Knicks a contender, unless Irving and Love have career ending injuries and Lebron opts out of Clev.

Yeah, and how does Detroit have only five wins with both Monroe and Drummond? They should have more wins than that with me and Headhunter in the backcourt and Dan at SF.
