Looks like Yanks-Marlins deal may expand beyond Eovaldi & Prado. @flasportsbuzz said it would be Eovaldi and Garrett Jones for Prado/Phelps.

The Yankees will also be getting another player besides Eovaldi and Jones, in return for Phelps and Prado, in deal reported elsewhere.
Nothing about his stats jumps out at you. I don't know what his stuff is like, so I can't say more than that, but on the surface I'm not getting a good feeling from this.
On the other hand, while it seems that they should be able to get a better deal for Prado, they just got him for Peter O'Brien so perhaps his value still isn't very high.

According to @Joelsherman1, Yankees are also getting Class A pitcher Domingo German. He was 9-3, 2.25 ERA, 123 1/2 IPs, 113K, 25W last year.
Posted this in the other thread, but.. I've seen a bit of Eovaldi as a Mets fan.
Throws really hard. Touches upper 90's on his FB but doesn't generate many swings and misses and doesn't strike a ton of guys out considering how hard he throws. I think the question with him has always been whether he can develop enough secondary stuff to go along with his FB because he throws it a ton and the only other pitch he really uses is a slider.
3.37 FIP last year, still a young guy with upside.
maybe they think Rothschild can teach him something
has pluse velo, and a plus slider to righties, but doesn't have the K's he should. Perhaps the Analytics Dept., which had the insight about McCarthy, sees something they like in Eovaldi. Domingo German is a hard thrower, too.
He throws really hard but really doesn't have any other pitch. Remember his low home run right is probably slightly inflated by playing in the nl east at a very big park.
I kind of always thought he would be a very good reliever - that said if he can get anything out of his secondary he sits mid 90s.
He is a legitimate backup to Tex and also Beltran in RF. He is a HR hitter for the bench. Eovaldi is the basis of this trade. He's still young, throws very hard and threw 200 innings last year. That's nothing to sneeze at. Prado became expendable once Headley was signed. Give the kids a chance to compete for the 2B job. Also, don't discount the prospect German. He is supposedly a big arm and had a very nice season in low A.
Jones provides nothing but a bit of power at this point
depending on who you ask. That's actually a pretty nice get. I liked Phelps too but his career high for innings was less than 160 and that was four years ago. They're going to play a kid at 2B, so on the balance this is about the team going forward. And I'm fine with that. Link - ( New Window )
I guess I'm a bit tired of hearing about awesome A ball pitchers
Seems like they always have three or four hard throwing pitchers in A ball, and none of them ever amount to anything. Hard to get too excited over that anymore.

Yanks high on eovaldi and German. Plan to try refsnyder at 2B (pirela another option). G Jones is $ offset/backup
perhaps giving them freedom to sign a SP in FA...somehow I think that this trade brings Scherzer or Shields into the equation.
I still doubt that, they don't seem to want to hand over a 1st rounder.
And Greg I get your point about A-ball pitchers, I guess they just figure the law of averages means that sooner or later one of them is going to make it.
we dealt Peter O'Brien, an okay prospect, for Prado, and then flipped Prado and Phelps, a swingman, for a young starter and a prospect who was better than O'Brien. So that's not a bad get.

Hopefully as little as possible, because he's an out machine

Could this mean another starter is coming? Apologies in advance.

That's exactly what this is and i'm 100% on board with it.
How about he's just turning 25, has MLB experience, throws in the upper 90's and there's a lot there for Dr. Rothschield.
This deal doesn't need an "Analytics Dept" to be labeled a no-brainer.

Sadly that's a possibility too.
Who plays 3rd?
Who plays 3rd?
Pirela or Ryan. Pirela is a pretty good utility guy.
