which I do (granted, not as much as his early music, but in terms of "funk" it's awesome)...
check out D'Angelo's new album "Black Messiah"..
it's VERY VERY VERY Sly Stone circa "STAND!", "There's A Riot Goin On", "Fresh".
I'm not saying D'Angelo is all coked up like Sly was, just that the music is very similar. It's fantastic.
It has that muddy, self harmonizing, guitar riffing, Rhodes backing, swing drumming sound to it..
It's not quite Funkadelic, as they had that blasting energy that made your bones move.. this is more undertone intense that makes your eyes move.
'Black Messiah' is like 'really good' Sly Stone. 'The Charade', in particular. But the whole thing is great. Great call.
Gonna take some good speakers or headphones for this.
I'm not talking his late 70s garbage lol

Heh. Sly definitely crossed that fine line (bonus pun) quickly. But, again. Great call. I am really impressed with/enjoying the whole album. Played it many times already this week. Great Marvin gaye vibe, in addition to the Sly. Nice to hear something so organic and funky.
It is grimey, Motley. But keep listening. The good stuff is underneath.
