NFT: Hulk Hogan wants one more title run

Jints in Carolina : 12/19/2014 6:49 pm
"Triple H told me I've got nothing to prove but the last time I wrestled was not with this company and I want my legacy to end with the WWE. ... "Vince (McMahon) said, ‘Never say never.' And that's what I want - one last match, one last run, one last title win, one last title retirement."

Yea um......

the Undertaker's streak ended I wanted him to win the title at Mania and then leave the belt in the ring and retire. I always thought a great Mania idea would be a tournament of champions. A best of the best including retired guys all trying for the title
im still pissed that the streak ended

especially to Brock who we see once every six months and is leaving in a few months for good... what a way to end the streak..
It would be kind of funny
illmatic : 12/19/2014 7:03 pm : link
if he came out during the Royal Rumble and just tossed people out left and right. The little kid in me would be content. The rest of me would just think "lolWWE".

In any event, I would MUCH rather see Hogan win it again than see Cena with the belt.
the brock lesnar title run has been an epic failure.
PhiPsi125 : 12/19/2014 7:05 pm : link
Doesn't speak, doesn't wrestle, barely even appears...and then the one time he appears in months, he isn't even wearing the belt. Can't wait until he is gone for good.

maybe my memory is hazy... it's been 20 years since I watched this and 30 years since I believed in Santa clause... but what do you mean by 'trying for the title'? isn't this scripted out and rehearsed days if not weeks in advance? it's theatre.

has been horrible. They were better off letting DB keep the belt than to give it to Lesnar. Funny how the authority would always blast Daniel for being hurt and say they need a defending champion...how many times has Lesnar defended since obtaining the title?

I hate what they are doing with Seth Rollins...

They had a good thing going with Wyatt...I thought he was gaining a lot of steam heading into the Money in the Bank match and they completely derailed him...now he is kind of in limbo and wasting away.

I just have no idea what they are trying to do on multiple levels.

MAB,
I'm talking "storyline" trying for the title ie "coming out of retirement" for one final shot. I wasn't implying I thought it was actual "trying".
How does he get medical clearance?
JohnF : 12/19/2014 8:20 pm : link
Take a look at Hogan's medical history!

Yes, I know pro wrestling is scripted, but the wrestlers get injured just like stunt men do...and they normally don't get the time needed to recover. It does take a decent amount of athletic ability to do the stunts they do, and I don't see how Terry Bollea (Hogan) is in any shape to do those.

He's a danger to the wrestlers he's working with, in the shape he's in...if you don't do your end of the stunt correctly, you can inflict major damage on your wrestling "opponent".

I see Reigns playing out exactly like Diesel. Rollins is the new HBK of this gen. Last year they didn't listen at the Rumble and forced Batista down our throats.. this year it will be Reigns. A year too late. People will boo him. Ziggler is going to be the guy that lasts the longest but gets screwed right at the end (last year's punk)

when Hogan rose to superstardom. Even if you love wrestling, how is this not received as anything other than sad and pathetic? It is sad that the real reason he is likely interested is he needs the money and his other ventures aren't cutting it. It is also sad for someone whose body is as broken as his to seriously consider further damage for the hopes of a last payday. But, the worst part of it, was even before his last wave of surgeries, 10 years ago he could barely move around the ring. Now he is in his 60s and has had a number of additional surgeries. Who would really want to see him in the ring? This would not be unlike watching Willie Mays bumbling in the OF in is final year with the Mets.

I always said that pro wrestling was a waste of athletic talent. Even though it's fake they do have to have athletic ability to do what they do in the ring. I wonder how many of these guys could perform in other real sports.

Well then, if YOU said it then it certainly must be true. These guys work out a lot and are in great shape...so that means that they MUST be able to hit a fastball, bounce off linebackers or hit a jumpshot really well too. Right /sarcasm off

It's entertainment. Most of these guys get paid pretty damn well for what they do.

What would a thread about wrestling be without the nimwits coming out of the woodwork to mock wrestling and the people who watch it. Some of you guys have really really sad lives.

Goldberg and Reigns were college football players
Angle was actually an Olympic gold medalist; Lesnar was a top-ranked amateur and then an MMA champ
Bret and Owen had amateur wrestling backgrounds
Nash played D1 basketball for 3 years

It wasn't directed only at you, but your comment was still moronic.

These guys make a ton of money and have a lot of success off of their "athletic ability" but you've always said that its a waste of athletic talent. Why is it a waste for professional wrestling but not for baseball/football/basketball etc? And then somehow draw a parallel to success in other sports? Yeah, I'm the dope.

Just because they work out a lot...doesn't mean they'd automatically be good at other sports also.
Waste of athletic talent?
KWALL : 12/20/2014 1:04 pm : link
Do you feel the same about stuntmen? That's all these guys are. Nothing more.

Some of them played college sports? Big deal. 10,000 kids play D1 football every year.

For the guys who played college, the AA of these wrestlers was not special beyond college sports and gave them no other options in a real sport. They turned to this nonsense for a nice payday. Nothing wrong with it but there is no athletic talent being wasted here.
Well to be fair, that's certainly true with Cena

Agreed except for Angle who was a legit Olympic gold medalist as an amateur, so he reached the pinnacle of his legit athletic profession before he went to the WWF
I shouldn't say 'profession' for Angle as an amateur
dpinzow : 12/20/2014 3:04 pm : link
as a contradiction in terms...but Angle was the best wrestler in the world in his weight class prior to doing the fake wrestling (WWF) so he had nowhere higher to go
And you could also say Lesnar reached the pinnacle of his profession
dpinzow : 12/20/2014 3:09 pm : link
by becoming UFC champion in between his WWE stints
A lot of guys come from amateur wrestling backgrounds
Anakim : 12/20/2014 3:45 pm : link
And also mixed martial arts. It's not they're purely uncoordinated, roided-out bodybuilders like John Cena is. They come from different backgrounds.
The point is not if these guys
JohnF : 12/20/2014 5:42 pm : link
could make the NBA, NFL, NHL, etc.

The issue here is that pro wrestlers work as a team doing the stunts you see in the ring. Each wrestler places his health...and possibly his life...in the hands of another, doing those stunts.

It's also why this is scripted, so the guys have a chance to get out relatively healthy.

Do a pile driver wrong, you can break someone's neck/paralyse him. Flip somone the wrong way so they can't protect themselves, and you can get broken limbs. It happens, even when the wrestlers involved are experts at their craft.

It's why these guys are supposed to train as hard as they do, so they know the basics of how to protect the other guy. The term in the industry for those who don't protect the other guy is "wrestling stiff"...and it's the worst thing you can do.

Bolea (Hogan) has no business in the ring. He can't protect the other guy, and he's too messed up to protect himself, no matter what he thinks. That's the real issue.
do you really think that a match with Hogan at this point would
PhiPsi125 : 12/20/2014 6:47 pm : link
be risky for his opponent? That would probably be the easiest match of their career. No high risk maneuvers, relatively short type of match.

I agree that Hogan should not be in the ring...but not because he is a risk. But because it would be fucking dumb.

And by the way, exactly what was ignorant about my post? The fact that I confessed to having the same question as Gene, or was it the "to each his own" part. Or maybe it was just a gratuitous meaningless insult because you were at a loss for any intelligent comment. I've got a 40 year old nephew who is an exceptionally bright guy and he's an avid wrestling fan. I have no inclination to insult him or you for watching it. Nonetheless I can still say that I don't understand the attraction. So although I don't wish to insult you for watching it, I have no problem at all telling you to go fuck yourself for your post.

Not that it makes any difference, because you may be the most thick headed person I have run across on this board, but I didn't "create" the post, Gene inCal did. I just replied to him that the thought crossed my mind too, and then I observed "different strokes for different folks, acknowledging that not everyone likes the same things.
