that was Osi's one real full-power, full-effort season. Along with a young, healthy Pierce and a full-strength Fred Robbins, they made Tim Lewis look good that year.
were more talented and complete DEs. Umenyiora was always a one dimensional edge rusher weak against the run. This was exploited more later but covered up in the past because we had pressure up the middle to cover him. The other three are complete DEs. Tuck was forced into the DT spot because of this problem with Umentiora. Probably shortened his career.
was the best player. Much better than anything Strahan or Osi did in 07. He was probably the best defensive player in the NFL that year. If not the best certainly in the top 3.
That makes it an easy call: JPP/Tuck > Osi/Strahan
By far, 2011 JPP

JPP had a great season and made some big plays, but in the playoffs, not so much......four games, 0.5 sacks....
Eli got the MVP trophy, but he should have given it back to the defensive line in 2007....
Tuck was unstoppable that game - might be the best game of his career and I think Strahan knew it was his last game and was vintage Strahan.
Patriots fans still ask me what happened to Tuck. He played well in the 2011 playoffs, but after that game he was drawing comparisons to greats of the game.
The DL did deserve an award for that SB. However, it was not the Strahan and Osi show. Tuck had big plays. Alford and others too.
The question was which DE duo was better. The 07 Strahan/Osi or the 11 JPP/Tuck. JPP in 2011 was the bets of the 4. Everybody else was a distant 2nd including the 07 version of Strahan.
Lets face it, if Osi hadn't gotten hurt in 2008 and Strahan hadn't retired that DL would have been freaking scary good.
Osi DOMINATED Walter Jones (HOF) In The Heartbreaking Loss At Seattle In 2005 (Jay Feeley Meltdown).
and that's what I get for being loaded on a friday night. Was certainly his breakout year at least though.
Strahan is a HoFer, period.
Once Strahan got in back in shape our whole d-line turned it up a notch in 2007. We led the league in sacks that year I believe.

or
Marshall - Martin

something only the greats have done
