Better DE duo?

SJ4good80 : 12/19/2014 11:37 pm
Which DE duo was better in their respective Super Bowl years?

07 Strahan and Osi
11 Tuck and JPP

Having this argument with some friends and would love BBIs opinion.
Strahan and Osi. Strahan's a HOFer at some point,
yatqb : 12/19/2014 11:41 pm : link
best overall DE of his time, and Osi could turn the corner like a flash. They'd be my choice.
If Strahan had played one more year

2008 and played 3/4's of the time in rotation we'd have won another SB. He was that good. That dominant against the run.

Lets face it, if Osi hadn't gotten hurt in 2008 and Strahan hadn't retired that DL would have been freaking scary good.
Strahan is the best player on that list
WeatherMan : 12/20/2014 12:13 am : link
and it's also very noteworthy that Tuck played a pivotal role in the 4 aces package as a rookie that year. 2007 has the edge for me.
eh, I'll take Strahan and Osi from 2005...
whozzat : 12/20/2014 1:58 am : link
that was Osi's one real full-power, full-effort season. Along with a young, healthy Pierce and a full-strength Fred Robbins, they made Tim Lewis look good that year.

Tuck Was A Rookie In 2005.

Exactly.

Osi DOMINATED Walter Jones (HOF) In The Heartbreaking Loss At Seattle In 2005 (Jay Feeley Meltdown).

and that's what I get for being loaded on a friday night. Was certainly his breakout year at least though.
In 07

Tuck made both Strahan and Osi better b/c of the havoc he caused inside. They all complimented each other IMO so i would take the 07 version.

Strahan is a HoFer, period.
Strahan and Osi

Tuck and JPP

were more talented and complete DEs. Umenyiora was always a one dimensional edge rusher weak against the run. This was exploited more later but covered up in the past because we had pressure up the middle to cover him. The other three are complete DEs. Tuck was forced into the DT spot because of this problem with Umentiora. Probably shortened his career.
I still think it was,
Doomster : 12/20/2014 10:07 am : link
Fred and Ginger.....but there are some out there that think it is Mary Anne...
Strahan and Osi
Rjanyg : 12/20/2014 10:39 am : link
Prototypical RDE speed rusher, and Protypical LDE, great against the run and the pass.
Easily Strahan and Osi
ImaGiant86 : 12/20/2014 10:41 am : link
They both produced. Tuck in 2011 didn't come on until late in the seaosn and playoffs.

Once Strahan got in back in shape our whole d-line turned it up a notch in 2007. We led the league in sacks that year I believe.
By far, 2011 JPP

was the best player. Much better than anything Strahan or Osi did in 07. He was probably the best defensive player in the NFL that year. If not the best certainly in the top 3.

That makes it an easy call: JPP/Tuck > Osi/Strahan
My Duo would be
yalebowl : 12/20/2014 1:44 pm : link
Robustelli - Katcavage

or

Marshall - Martin
Don't think so.....

JPP had a great season and made some big plays, but in the playoffs, not so much......four games, 0.5 sacks....

Eli got the MVP trophy, but he should have given it back to the defensive line in 2007....
Strahan and Osi

Stray could turn in on on a per down big play big game basis.

something only the greats have done
Even though Tuck wasn't a starter
pjcas18 : 12/21/2014 11:38 am : link
I'll take Tuck and Strahan from XLII.

Tuck was unstoppable that game - might be the best game of his career and I think Strahan knew it was his last game and was vintage Strahan.

Patriots fans still ask me what happened to Tuck. He played well in the 2011 playoffs, but after that game he was drawing comparisons to greats of the game.

The DL did deserve an award for that SB. However, it was not the Strahan and Osi show. Tuck had big plays. Alford and others too.

The question was which DE duo was better. The 07 Strahan/Osi or the 11 JPP/Tuck. JPP in 2011 was the bets of the 4. Everybody else was a distant 2nd including the 07 version of Strahan.
