Have the last three games

mushroom : 12/21/2014 8:09 pm
changed you mind on the outlook of the Giants or are we looking at fool's gold?

Definitely like the direction the offense is headed. Still need at least one mean talented lineman. Hopefully the light can stay on with Randle, Williams develops and Cruz can come back healthy

The Defense is more problematic. Clearly we need more talent and speed especially at LB. Hopefully we can keep JP without breaking the bank. Another safety seems like a strong need?

Thoughts?
I think the improved play of the OL is a big positive

As someone said on another thread, Pugh has been much better since returning, so maybe the injury was affecting him.

Richburg really struggled during the middle of the season, but he seems to be getting his footing.

So, if Schwartz can come back, then you really only need one guard. You can sign a FA guard and then maybe draft a young guy in the second or third round. Whereas a month ago, it looked like a total overhaul was needed.

That frees up more resources to be used on defense.

but these wins will not translate to wins against the better teams in the league next season, without significant upgrade at several positions.
They did a similar thing last year

And we were 3-9 after 12 games this year.
The best thing

Is the play of the younger players. Gives you hope, and Randle had a much different game today. If he grew up all of a sudden that is huge.

cause it took awhile or are we beating lousy teams? only next season will tell.

The team seems to have talent and is starting to grasp the scheme.much hope for the future
Clearly I am much more concerned with the defense both schematically and talent level
One thing to remember
Semipro Lineman : 12/21/2014 9:00 pm : link
many of the contributors to last year's late season success were not in the team's plan for the future. Tuck, Nicks, Kiwi, LJ, Brown, Will, Hillis, Jernigan, T. Thomas, and others. Go to ESPN and look at many of names in the 2013 box scores.

With the exception of Manning, Randle, Cruz, Pierre-Paul, Beason, Rolle, and Prince there probably isn't anyone who was a significant contributor to the 2013 late season run of success who's going to be on the team next year. The same can't be said about the guys who are helping the Giants finish out 2014 on a high note.
The Rams' strength is their defense. They are not a come from behind

team. Their early fumble put them in a hole and they were kept in that hole by giving up two more turnovers during the game. Down by 10 points or more during the entire game they struggled on offense.

The Giants had the luxury of good field position for most of the game and Andre Williams emergence as a pass blocker/runner allowed the Giants to have a better mix of run and pass and avoid a lot of third and long plays (and a lot of blitzes by the Rams).

The Rams offense was not helped by their defense which was not able to get a single turnover for them and Beckham and Randle helped a little (Grin).

We are not world beaters, but +3 in the turnover column makes for much easier wins.
Beckham has changed single handily the dynamic of the

team. The Giants have a chance to hang 30 on anyone. But improvement
is needed.
We have some

good young players, and the upgrades mentioned, v=ia FA or draft will add to the base of the future.
The D needs speed and toughness; the O needs OL and a WR threat to help OBJ(hopefully VC and RR)/
Fools gold two years in a row.

They win meaningless games after they are eliminated from playoff contention. Despite some good individual performers, there is an overall lack of talent on the roster. Some of the coaching is really questionable.

Fools gold.

This.
People need to pay attention to the teams they are playing
PatersonPlank : 12/21/2014 10:29 pm : link
We can beat the weaker teams but we lose to the 10-6 and above teams. This needs to be fixed. You can't just say now we are playing better, because I would bet if we go back to Seattle tomorrow we end up with the same result. Its a function of the quality of the opposition.
Let's face it,
Doomster : 12/21/2014 10:42 pm : link
we knew it was going to be a learning process with this offense...it sucked in preseason, and it definitely got off to a slow start at the start of the season......

However, the emergence of OBj has been huge for this team....defenses now how to concentrate on him and create a deep umbrella for him.....this spreads the defense out and limits their blitzing.....Eli has shown with some time back there, what kind of qb he is....

But this OL is still a huge question mark....Can Richburg play center? Can Schwartz stay healthy? Can Pugh rebound? Can we find that free agent 5th lineman? Can we get some depth for this line? Will Cruz be ok? Will Randle step up his game in a contract year? Who will be the TE, remember Fells and Donnell are FA's.....A third RB is needed for depth....and that is just the offense.....
If you can't see the difference between
section125 : 12/21/2014 10:48 pm : link
last year's team and this year's team, I don't know what to tell you.
Last year Eli was running for his life, this year he isn't. The line is not good, but much better than last year. The TD/INT rate is flipped.

The defense is at best marginally better. If they chnage DCs it might be pretty good.

This team is better than last years.
Despite what Bill Parcells says,
CT Charlie : 12/21/2014 10:50 pm : link
I think we're an 8-8 team. On any Sunday we can lose to anyone and beat almost anyone.
section 125: Parcells said, You are what your record is.
Bobby Epps : 12/21/2014 10:53 pm : link
If we win next week, we'll have the same record as last year. So, NO BETTER even if we win.

If we lose, then we have a worse record than last year.

So, in the best scenario, we're no better and in the worse scnerio, we're worse.

Statstics are for losers.
Development

My bottom line: O looks pretty good right now. Darkwa is a surprise. Williams continues to improve. Light may have come on for Randle (Eagles game will tell). Pugh return at RT has made a difference for the OL -- and adding Schwartz back in next year will improve it more. Agree that the D is still too vulnerable, though Berhe is coming on, it seems, and Wynn looks good. McAdoo has improved. Fewell still needs to be replaced. Reese? Maybe he stays. Still lots of holes to fill -- G or OT, WR, TE, LB, S look most pressing.
Not the best teams in the league
Spock : 12/22/2014 9:23 am : link
Throwing in Jax, tenn, wash, and Rams are all big losing teams. I don't believe any of them have 6 wins, so it is hard to feel that warm and fuzzy. Let's see what they do against our rivals next week. Who comes to play?
