Sorry to see Reese go after the season

Reale01 : 12/21/2014 8:49 pm
His inability to attract talent and get an offensive line will or at least should get him fired according to many. I hope our next GM will continue to land "sleepers" like Cruz, Wynn, Stevie Brown, Will Hill, Beason, Donnell, Parker, Hynoski, and others. I do expect that the new GM will hit on every draft choice - not just guys like Beckham, Richburg, Williams, Kennard, Bromley, Hankins, Pugh, Moore, Prince, Randall, JPP, and Joseph.

Although I suppose that eliminating mistakes like Sintim, Austin, JJ, Robinson, Barden, Chad Jones, and Becky will more than make up for any dropoff.

It also will be good to start signing free agents who will not get injured like Beason, Baas, Jennings, Shwartz, Thurman, McBride, and Ayers did.

But including Bromley in that group has me slightly confused.

MEANINGFUL contribution from any of the FAs he signed plus signing injury-prone Beason to a big contract should assure us that he keeps his job.

Don't you think?

I think the new-GM must also contribute on special teams.

He should also be married to one of Tom Coughlin's daughters. Or maybe a niece.

Aren't you glad at least one person got your sarcasm? :))
You really don't think DRC

Like it or not John Jerry has played every game and almost every snap. Not as well as we would like, no doubt, but the guy played virtually every offensive down.
Can't blame Reese for two separate injuries to Schwartz.
Headhunter: DRC long on potential? Sure
Bobby Epps : 12/21/2014 9:09 pm : link
But 5 year $35M contract with $14M guaranteed with 33 tackles and 2 INTs in 2014 doesn't IMO seem so terrific.
Reese had his hands
Zebra3 : 12/21/2014 9:11 pm : link
In the last two drafts
Pugh Moore Hankins
OBJ Richberg Bromley
Two starting oline 2 starting DL
One unreal WR.
Reese would not be unemployed long.

not sure if you're serious about John Jerry.

Jerry has been a total disaster overall in the run game IMO.

Thanks. Yse I am kidding. He should absolutely stay. Sorry for not being direct. I have been direct in the past and people don't get it. Reese has done VERY WELL the last couple years.

AND YES this year's group of FAs did look good when they played. THEY GOT HURT.

Even Walton and Jerry have at least been good enough to start every game. They may be below average, but they do hustle and they do battle.

Yes, and even Bromley looks like he may be good. Too early to tell with a rookie DT.

for very long. Because if he's hired elsewhere as GM, then maybe he'll sign Ross for college scouting and Fewell as HC or DC.

That would be an incredible trifecta benefit for us.

Is this Dave?

DRC has been very good this year and has really battled to play. He has been much tougher than I remember him at Philly. He tackles when he has to. Great hustle play last week. He has not quit despite bad season and injuries.
Yes, this team is just utterly stacked with talent. Except not.
Riggies : 12/21/2014 9:18 pm : link
Reese was never in danger of going anywhere and won't even be considered to be at least until he backs his own HC and franchise QB, but let's not start pretending this team is in great shape right now, roster wise, because of this stretch of games and break the In Reese We Trust kool aid back out just yet.

Learn from last year, if nothing else. Also, it's Randle, not Randall.

The thread was sarcastic, you were not and you were wrong about there not having any meaningful time from the FA.

I said Jerry didn't play as well as we would like, but he did play virtually every down of ever game. You missed on DRC, and Zack Bowman too.
I know Jerry has stunk up the run blocking and some pass pro too, but he played lots of meaningful time.
In this draft etc
Zebra3 : 12/21/2014 9:22 pm : link
Williams young strong back
Kennard young hard hitting Lbs
Berhe potentially to replace trell
Wynn pick up after draft
The Cb from ND is the only guy they missed on.
Reese is an excellent GM
Rflairr : 12/21/2014 9:23 pm : link
he's going no where. It's not his fault that it takes this coaching staff so long to get the most out of the players
section 125: Please go back and read what I wrote.
Bobby Epps : 12/21/2014 9:24 pm : link
Sure, Jerry had meaningful playing time.

But I wrote about meaningfulCONTRIBUTION. The only overall meaningful contibution that Jerry made was to the absolutely terrible run offense we had this year.
We all loved Reese after the second Super Bowl win.
Reese's Pieces : 12/21/2014 9:25 pm : link
We had a good team in 2012, but the gods were against us after the two great seasons. I think that the turning point was the 2012-2013 offseason when the team just had no cap space to sign anyone. A lot of one and two ring vets who were not over the hill were allowed to walk, although we didn't have replacements for them.

It got to be that we had to renegotiate a veteran contract just to add a player from the practice squad. And he didn't address the number one priority, the OL, sufficiently.

If Reese overspent on the way to the two championships, I wouldn't much hold that against him.

But this coming offseason the word is that we have a lot of money to spend. Reese may regain his stature.

Anyway I don't see management letting a competent GM go unless a better-than-competent GM is available to replace him.
Acr ...LO .fricking L !!!

isn't going anywhere. Neither is Ross.

But it doesn't change the fact that the OL still sucks, our #1 TE is a UDFA former QB at Grambling, and Kennard may be our only decent LB. He's screwed up a lot of drafts, and mad some bad decisions in FA.

I read what you said and you were wrong, period. Jerry was decent in pass protection and just because his play wasn't even good in run blocking, doesn't mean it wasn't MEANINGFUL.
So you missed DRC, Jerry, Bowman, and Walton.

And don't forget he hired Fewell
Mason : 12/21/2014 10:07 pm : link
and hasn't developed his picks, his depth chart stinks and he has no coaching tree to speak of, doesn't coach up his team and they are undisciplined at times and for god sake tell Reese to stop running the damn Tampa 2.

Maybe you missed it...He has been hurt all year.

I guess it's Reece's fault that Schwartz, Thurmond, Beason, and DRC being hurt all year

Great analysis on your part

How can you be so sure? Mara and Tisch are businessmen. They are used to letting people go who they feel are not up to the job and I don't think they let sentimentality get in the way.

We should have a much better idea after Mara's press conference after the game next week. If he gives Reese and Coughlin votes of confidence, they will almost certainly be back. If he tap dances around the issue, "I think that Jerry and Tom have been great assets to the franchise, but of course we will look at all our options," then Tom and Jerry might be a little concerned.

For the hiring and retention (it appears under Coughlin they have tenure) of Fewell and Quinn.

Game are won and lost on specials and defense no matter what the Old Fart thinks.
