have always loved cruz like a lot of us, but us and the team perhaps made the mistake of thinking he was a no. 1 but he isn't - e.g., too short, too many drops, etc. now of course it would be nice for him to come back and be productive after his horrific injury; but kind of wondering now, if beckham is indeed the real deal, should we trade cruz and stockpile picks, get a stud on def or oline (where we have need of course). i'm kind of open to a trade honestly - and just use others to fill any need next to beckham.
what kind of picks do you think Cruz would net - before proving he's even capable of being close to his former self?
Besides the fact, you need more than one offensive weapon at WR.
Cruz is needed to play the slot and if he comes back close to his former self and the offensive line is solidified the offense can be lethal - with some injury luck for a change.
no way I trade or cut Cruz - I don't cut him because that's silly at this point and you won't get value in a trade.
Also, no one is trading anything significant for a guy recovering from a serious, potentially career altering injury, especially when that player wasn't even playing well before he got injured over a relatively significant amount of time.
Cruz is a great guy and will benefit from OBJ. He comes back even close to his old self why would they want to move on?
Mind blown!
Why I hope they can grab a stud OL in Rd 1 next year. Similar to Dallas who invested heavily and it's paid off.
back away from the holiday scented candles dude.
ODB has not made Cruz expendable. He has made him MORE valuable, MORE productive, and MORE dangerous.
Cruz had his best year when he wasn't the focal point of the O. He was good in 12 & 13, but he is not a #1. A great 1a. but not a #1. If he plays at 90% next year, he's gonna have a great year, and this O has potential to do some damage
Don't like to pile on, but +1.
Pay Eli and Beckham, spend the rest of defense.
Geez, come on man, think.
You're just kidding, Clint, right ?
What fraction of of WR drafted in the first round are as good or better than Cruz? (Link to a list of 1st and 2nd round wr picks provided) Let's say a quarter? If so you need 4 1st rounders to break even. Do you think anyone would give you more than that? Do you think anyone would give more than that for Jerry Rice in his prime, never mind Victor Cruz?
GM's (and most fans) way overvalue draft picks because they are confident they will draft better than they do. Even for the best of GM's the draft is as likely to produce a bust as a star.
It is one thing to trade aging stars to teams who will give good picks in the hope of getting a good year or two for a playoff run; stockpiling pick s in that way makes sense. trading good players in their prime for picks almost never does.
list of top drafted WR - ( New Window )
so the question is really moot
Cruz will be a Giant next year
No doubt gives the organization a little leverage back from Cruz, in terms of restructuring and such. He's no longer the number 1/only playmaker which lowers his value and bargaining potential. Great guy and he loves the Giants but still interesting to consider.
OBJ is way more dynamic than Cruz and may even be a better route runner. Cruz is top 10 slot receiver, OBJ may be Top 5 WR seriously.
