Some thoughts on the game

Jack in MD : 12/21/2014 9:50 pm
How about a game ball for OC Ben McAdoo. His game plan put up 514 total yards against a pretty stout Ram defense which had been ranked in the top ten.

Wynn had a very nice game. Aside from his sack and fumble recovery, he smartly went to the ground after his interception instead of doing something silly.

Looks like the “good” Randle showed up for this game. He made several great catches. One game on and three games off.

Williams showed vision and great speed on his long run, not to mention the great blocking by the OL. He almost got Eli decapitated when he whiffed on a Ram safety blitz. Looked like Eli kept adjusting Williams’s backfield position throughout the game.

McClain had at least two nice rushes and hammered the Ram’s QB. No sacks but nice, clean hard hits.

Nice move by Weatherford to restrain Beckham when he was illegally hit out of bounds. Could have gotten really ugly if someone did not grab Beckham.

Yes, Beatty had 3 holding calls and Walton at least one, but I thought the OL played their best game of the year as a group. The interior line was not pushed back into Eli as they allowed all year. The Rams have some serious talent on their front seven. The Rams did not seem to blitz “as much” as they have in their 4 previous games.

Eli had a very good game-78% completion rate and a 148.8 QB rating.

PC Berhe had a very nice open field tackle on a kickoff downing the returner on his own ten yard line.

Beckham’s route on the 80 yarder was a thing of beauty. He is so crisp out of his breaks.

Was it Brown who did not rotate to cover after Rodgers-Cromartie released the Ram WR?

The Giants drew the Rams offside on 4th and 1, resulting in a first down. It looked to me like Herzlich raised his right hand drawing the Ram DL off side.

I have always hated the coaching style of Fisher- borderline dirty over the years. His teams have always been near the top when it comes to penalties. Same holds true for Gregg Williams, their DC. I think the Giants went after Williams a few years ago, but someone had already signed him.

Probably will be some fines and suspensions because of the fight. Someone did push or touch an official.

Finally, I was proud of the way the team fought today, on and off the field of play. It was clear they had their teammates backs covered. Most emotion shown by this team in many years.

I agree with you. I was proud of the boys for bloodying their noses in their stadium.
Excellent Post

I agree with all your comments. There will always be the whiners on here that will remind us the Giants are still only 6-9 and how it's been a disappointing season but I was proud of what I saw today.

They stuck together as a team and fought for one another (literally and figuratively). That's a mark of a good head coach.
Totally agree

No debate here. One thing I think needs to happen where Williams is concerned. He doesn't appear to be very adept at the cutback. A lot of times he runs right into the pile when it looks like there is an opening to his left or right.

It would appear he needs to continue developing more patience. He has the power and the speed. And has done a pretty nice job blocking for Eli. He's a load. And he does fairly well catching the ball out of the backfield.

I love his physical style and that will wear defenses down. And when he does get into the open field he blows up those defensive backs. He did it a couple of times yesterday.

Good comments.,I think on had him man in a 3-2, which was the same coverage the Rams busted on Beckham's long TD. The S has to play the deep route. As far as the Giants the win proves that they are the best team of the non-contending echelon in the conference, except possibly the Vikings. That might not seem so good but it's a marked improvement over a month ago.

If McAdoo deserves a game ball, and I doubt he does, it would be for having is o-line ready to cover the defesnse's edge pass-blocking in a dome environment. He was lousy at this previously. Ie Detroit, Philadelphia. I know the place emptied out but it was nearly full early with the people from the city that Budweiser made great.

Don't see the vision comment on Willisms. Once again he was tackled on 2 occasions by Giant o-linemen, who must enjoy it when he slams into them like that. However he did bury 2 of their DBs with punishing runs. Wish he would study New Orleans Darkwa's TD run. Patience in the hole, run in place, as OJ used to stay. I think Williams would have stayed off-tackle left on that play and would have been buried.

Excellent heads up move by Weatherford. Probably the best thing to do given the circumstances.
Par for the course:

Orleans Darkwa - the legend begins.
We definitely need to upgrade our safeties.

Rolle is clearly on the way down. Brown and Demps aren't very good.

Williams said he missed a similar play (as the 45 yd run) earlier in the game. So maybe the game is starting to slow for him too. He recognized his mistake, watched for the next cut back opportunity and made it.
He still plows into his Oline too much, but maybe he is beginning to understand what is required in the NFL for a RB.
