Eli with 1 game to go:

PatersonPlank : 12/21/2014 10:44 pm
10th in Yards (3,981)
9th in TD's (29)
Yet he is 15th in passing attempts per game

Plus his TD/Int ratio is a very respectable 29/13, right in the same ballpark as Brees, Luck, and Ryan. Behind Peyton, Big Ben, and Rodgers. Without the SF debacle he would have been right with the top guys.

I consider this a very good year considering the lack of quality play by the OL, the lack of a running game, Cruz being hurt, and the defense giving him less chances because they don't get off the field (as shown by his being 15th in the league in attempts.

Its clear that Eli is a top 10 QB and a franchise guy. It will be very hard to replace him. The only teams I remember being able to go from one top-flight QB to another are the 49ers (Montana to Young) and GB (Favre to Rodgers)
He had a lot of really nice throws today.

A very good game for Eli even with a lot of pressure
Let's trade him for a couple draft picks!

We won't have to replace Eli for a while
djm : 12/21/2014 10:50 pm : link
And he's gonna have a nice run here in the 2nd half of his prime. Add some more talent to this offense while gaining a little more luck in the health dept and these guys will score 400 plus next season.
He's had a terrific season.

I know those numbers are closer to league average in today's NFL, but the bottom line is he's thrown the ball exceptionally well this year and looks to be in complete control of the system. He's got a lot of good football left in him.

are 12th in the league in time of possession. So the fact that Eli is only 15th in the league in pass attempts isn't due to the defense not being able to get off the field.

Just wanted to point that out

Given a new offense, and completely new weapons, and an in-flux OLine, he has been pretty damn good this year. I am of the belief that he has another several years of good ball.
I loved the deep ball TD to Beckham, too.
bceagle05 : 12/21/2014 11:08 pm : link
He was off balance and under duress and he laid it out there nicely. Remember last year when he couldn't even reach the end zone on a Hail Mary? Looks like the alterations to his mechanics have made a big difference. He was throwing lasers today.
I'm proud of the 2014 bounce back

season that Eli Manning is having. Who cares if that is average? Clearly, he doesn't have as many passing yards as he did in 2011 but he already matched his touchdown pass total from 2011. Any "average" year is an upgrade from his 2013 season where it looked as if he didn't belong in the NFL. I'm sure that some Ebenezer Scrooges will come spoil the party (not mentioning any handles!) and wipe away any praise for the great season Eli had.

Hell, what's the big deal right? Eli has a winning record vs the Redskins but we don't talk about positive feedback from users on BBI, since we're 6 and fucking 9.
Eli's had a real good year
Bill in UT : 12/22/2014 1:05 am : link
Let's give some credit to Beckham's ability to get open and catch the ball.
how about that...
Route 9 in LEH : 12/22/2014 1:09 am : link
Eli's stats get better when he's got a better player to throw the ball to...we might be onto something here..
He was in a lot of third and longs during the losing streak
oipolloi : 12/22/2014 2:24 am : link
No OL, no running game and the infamous run-run-pass playcalling

Given those factors, Eli has played as well as any QB in football. Too bad it was wasted on a 6-9 season

'LOL': Eli to those BBIers back in August claiming he was washed up.

Isnt that a WR's job? Obviously Beckham has made Eli a lot better but one of the reasons why he was so shitty last year was because his skill guys were even shittier.
I have been waiting for years to seeing him

He's had a nice bounce back season

Take away the Niner game and it would have been a great year.

He really has on truly viable weapon. What other upper echlon QB can say that? Luck is the only other one. He also has problems on the line, at RB, and at receiver. Guys like Ben, Peyton, and even Brady have All Pro caliber guys playing right now.
Luck's surrounding cast

Is much better than Eli's, with multiple weapons.
And 6th in total QBR

being a top 10 QB statistically, how about the Giants being a top 10 team as far as wins and losses, and not top 10 in drafting next year?
Did Eli's performance go un noticed by the announcers yesterday?
Houston : 12/22/2014 7:56 am : link
Eli was have a great game - on target - good decisions - yet the announcers couldn't get past OBJ, the OL .. everyone was getting kuddo's except Eli? At one poing he was 21-25 with 3 TD's and 361 yards .. yet nothing?!?
From a non-stats guy
WideRight : 12/22/2014 8:06 am : link
Eli needs a run game. The first winning streak coincided with Jennings great play, and now Andre Williams is playing great.

Eli throws well regardless, and maybe the run game is just a surrogate for better O line play, but it really strikes me as the difference between wins and losses.

Eli got alot of recognition yesterday.

Not really.

Hilton, Wayne, nicks, Allen, fleener, Richardson, Bradshaw

Not really any better than

Beckham, randle, donnell, Jennings, Williams.

Lucks line is crap also. He just masks their issues better than Eli can simply because of lucks ability to scramble
After watching yesterday's game
mfsd : 12/22/2014 8:50 am : link
it still boggles me how some people have questioned his accuracy and arm strength in the past. Yes, he misses some throws, but he has a laser for an arm, it was on full display yesterday
Luck looked
rocco8112 : 12/22/2014 8:57 am : link
real good in a big game down in Dallas yesterday.

Yup.

Thing is every once in a while Eli let's one fly that looks like I threw it.

This was more common early on in his career, but there are few in the NFL who can sling it like Eli.

Enjoy it.

Plus imagine Eli in a dome? I mean it is not real football inside, but you would see more stat lines like yesterday.

it didn't take long for the QB comparisons I see...

Just be happy Eli is part of the solution here going forward and has 2 rings under his belt already. Who the fuck cares about Luck's supporting cast...
I think the supporting cast comparisons are so frequently brought up
Riggies : 12/22/2014 11:06 am : link
because few QBs have ever had it held against them that they can't succeed with turnstiles, no run game, shitty pass catchers, and subpar defenses (not just one or two of them) like Eli is by certain vocal crowds and usually in the process of holding that against him we get dumb shit like Peyton never ever being surrounded by talent in his career, Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson being nothing more than Rodgers products, and Luck having to always be near flawless against teams like the Jags for the Colts to win with the awful team they've surrounded him with thrown out there to prove it, egging the sometimes over sensitivity by Eli defenders on more.

And Dallas/Indy game was not big; it was meaningless for the Colts.
This is a critical off season.
Matt M. : 12/22/2014 11:15 am : link
I truly believe with the right off season in terms of personnel and adding the right DC, this team can be a credible contender. However, if Reese doesn't get the OL and some other key positions right, the franchise will not only fail next season, but potentially beyond. they will have to make a decision about extending Eli. That is a lot easier to do when you have the personnel to make a run.

He and Beckham are enough of a threat by themselves to make the giants relevant. With the right protection, this can be a downright potent offense. With the right DC and key personnel, particularly in the front 7, this could be an all around solid team.
I felt like this was a huge season in Eli's career
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 12/22/2014 11:22 am : link
and although I wouldn't say he performed at his very best, I've still been really impressed by and happy for his performance this season.

Eli knows how to take advantage of the weapons he is surrounded by. Beckham is an absolute superstar, but Eli is getting every ounce out of him. Just like Eli got every ounce out of Cruz in 2011 and how he rode Nicks down the '11 stretch.
