The penalties after the fight

Rico : 12/21/2014 11:02 pm
I apologize since this is probably a stupid question, but I watched the game at a bar in Michigan without sound.

I saw what looked like two flagrant personal fouls on the Rams, one for a late hit out of bounds and the second for a shove to the facemask after the play. Then a fight breaks out. When it was over, we lose two guys for the game (Parker and Moore) and the Rams lose one. And we get a net 15 yard penalty.

The Rams DB who started it all doesn't get ejected when he clearly should have been for two personal fouls on the same play, and it seems like those fouls don't get called at all.

I know the refs spent 5 minutes discussing it and Mike Pereira weighed in about it, but I couldn't hear any of that. WTH happened? Thanks!
I was confused as to why we were given the penalties as well...
Jan in DC : 12/21/2014 11:20 pm : link
2 ejections vs their one, but they had the play that instigated the whole thing, so you'd think that they had another personal foul on that one. If anything, why didn't they offset?

The ref had a really hard time communicating the ramifications of that melee.
Presumably
ray in arlington : 12/21/2014 11:21 pm : link
there were multiple fouls on both teams that would offset.

(Multiple fouls means more than 1 penalty on a team.)

However, 14-3 says that "A foul against an official is not part of a Multiple Foul and will be enforced in addition to any other foul."

The ref said the Giants committed a foul against an official. So it appears that one is not offset.
I don't speak any Italian
jcn56 : 12/21/2014 11:23 pm : link
but I'd be amazed to learn that 'Morelli' isn't Italian for 'moron'.
It was supposed to be 15 yard penalty against the Rams
Rjanyg : 12/21/2014 11:29 pm : link
But a 1st and 25 for the Giants. However, the refs never seemed to award the Giants the 15 yards. Really f'd up play. The refs sucked ass in this game. The Rams and their DC are cheapass dirtbags
Ray is correct
Daniel in MI : 12/21/2014 11:34 pm : link
they said it was a penalty against the ref.

Parker was going to get tossed, he was throwing punches. Moore grabbed someone from behind, not sure if he ended up swinging or caused the penalty against the ref.

The league will review tape, I'd expect more fines.

The fact that this all exploded on our sidelines made a lot more opportunity for our guys to jump in and get tossed.
Thanks for the replies

That explains why we lost 15 yards and why it seemed the original personal fouls were not enforced. But why didn't the DB get tossed? I thought two fouls on the same play were an automatic ejection?
From what I saw
Hammer : 12/21/2014 11:47 pm : link
Parker was the first Giant to arrive on the scene. He cracked 52 in the back of the head and that is why he got tossed. Good for him. If I were Reese I'd offer Parker a contract extension based on that action alone. I guess that's why I'm not running a professional football team.

Moore grabbed a Ram by the head and ripped his helmet off, essentially attempting to decapitate the scumbag. Again, from what I saw, that's why he got tossed.

Good for the Giants coming to Beckham's aid. If another teams tries the same shit they ought to do the same thing again.

And don't think for a second that those thumpers on the Rams QB were not related. They were, and they should be.

Reminds me of Leonard Marshall's hit on Montana after Jim Burt tried to end Hostetler's career. If anyone tries to hurt Beckham then the Giants take it out on their quarterback. That message will come through load and clear. The first QB that gets taken off on a stretcher will give opposing defenses pause when they try to hurt Beckham

The Giants have to protect Beckham. It seems to me that the league is out to get the kid.
all the personal fouls offset
oipolloi : 12/22/2014 3:04 am : link
and then the Giants were assessed 15 yards for contacting an official

btw, Rico, did you really run a 2:50 at age 46? I recently ran 6 miles, averaging 7:50 a mile and I felt like I was sprinting. I consider myself to be in really good shape for a man in his 40s. Unbelievable that you clocked a 2:50.
So the way I see it
AgentZero : 12/22/2014 3:09 am : link
1st Penalty : DB on OBJ
2nd Penalty: OBJ for punching ball into DB or Parker on Ram player (most likely Parker i think)

Those cancel out?

3rd Penalty: Whoever had penalty against Ref most likely Moore, 15 yarder

So we get 1st & 25

All I know is
Modus Operandi : 12/22/2014 4:27 am : link
Damontre Moore is the dumbest player we've had in here since Frankie Walker.

But Beckham did not make a first down and these were all after the play was over. The personal foiuls offset which keep it at 2nd and whatever then the foul involving an official is enforced. Therefore the down counts and it is 2nd Down (as that was the 1st Down play) from 15 yards further back
One correction to my post
Mike in NY : 12/22/2014 7:19 am : link
The foul involving an official was assessed half the distance to the goal because we were inside the 30

Wow. Just wow.
Is the first initial out of bounds hit
map7711 : 12/22/2014 8:25 am : link
A penalty during regular play. And the rest of the stuff that happened dead ball fouls? Wouldn't that change things or is a hit out of bounds a dead ball foul as well?
Anyone
Kevin in Annapolis : 12/22/2014 8:46 am : link
know what exactly happened with the foul on the official? Who was it on, how did it happen?

I can't believe you remember my PR! You are dead on. I broke 3 hours eight times in my 40's, and my best was that 2:50 at age 46. I've come close a couple times in my 50's, including a 3:00:16 at London! Thanks for remembering!
the biggest disgrace
GIANTSr01 : 12/22/2014 9:32 am : link
was Ogletree not getting ejected. And he didn't stop with his late his there either...

I agree with Hammer, give Parker an extension. Solid 4th WR/special teamer and great teammate.
Why is Moore dumbest player?
Spock : 12/22/2014 10:04 am : link
He did what he felt he had to do to stick up,for teammate. I'm glad he almost took that guy's head off. They tried to take ODBs head off too. Eye for an eye...
Put me in the camp thats glad Moore went after the Rams
AgentZero : 12/22/2014 11:15 am : link
might prevent players in the future for headhunting on OBJ when they know the team has his back!
