Eli Was Elite

Dragon : 12/22/2014 6:28 am
First of all this is not a rant against Eli this a conscious effort on my part to say this is the QB I want to see weekly or 11 or more games out of 16.

He had what I felt was his best game in maybe two plus years. He had a few throws in the second half he would probably like not to have made but they did not create turnovers very key. Should he make those 3 or 4 throws then the score becomes 45 or more points not 37. He used everyone on the field with him today and even with the fights they had fun out on the field. I'm hard on him because this is the kind of game at this point in his career we should get from our Leader on most game days.

Just to show you how important not his stats but completing the important throws mean consider this. Both Eli and S. Hill attempted 32 passes, Eli 25 (3 TD's) and Hill 24 (2 TD's) completions and one INT for Hill. However it was Hill who missed the WR's wide that should have been TD's and not Eli something we see way to often happen to Eli. Today we saw the QB skills that cost this team a mountain of draft picks. Now the question is can he really maintain this level of play? Elite for sure he was that today, Eli was in the TOP Four QB's in the NFL for today and for that we as Giants fans are hungry for more.
Sorry,
Giantology : 12/22/2014 6:35 am : link
But Eli has had several great games this season. Also, you seem to have conveniently forgotten that this is is his first year in a new offensive scheme. He's depending on 10 other guys to know and be comfortable in the scheme, too.

After 14 games, we're starting to see what things look like in the scheme when people know their assignments, know their responsibilities, aren't overthinking, etc.

With some additional upgrades to the OL, a healthy Cruz (hopefully), and another offseason under everyone's belt, this offense should look much more consistent next year.
And he's already won us 2 Super Bowls
Giantology : 12/22/2014 6:35 am : link
So I think it's time we let go of the fact that we gave up a mountain of draft picks for him 10 years ago.
Mountain of draft picks!
Randy in CT : 12/22/2014 7:00 am : link
I need you guys to remember how many draft picks other teams gave up (all at once, or single crappy picks) and have nothing to show for it. As mentioned, we already 2 SBs during Eli's tenure and with the right surrounding cast, we'll get more.

How many teams out there with no SB wins already have a top QB in place and just need to be tweaked?

I see a big rebound next year and should Cruz come back 100% and or we add another very good WR, (along with dumping 3 linemen and replacing them) and some tweaks...
Eli cost the Giants a 1st, a 3rd, and a 5th
Britt in VA : 12/22/2014 7:21 am : link
RGIII cost the Redskins two 1sts, and a 2nd.

Eli's trade looks like chump change.

One thing I have noticed in the last few games
Ken from Flushing : 12/22/2014 7:34 am : link
is that all of the WRs and Eli seem to be on the same page. We have a lot less of receivers going the wrong way.
Painful
Simms : 12/22/2014 7:39 am : link
Two superbowls ... ask the Browns, the Lions or others in the NFC East if it was worth it. Geez.

Yesterday was most obvious. Even Randle. The quick outs to beat the blitz were made. It looked like Rodgers or Brady hitting their guys. Of the games I've seen this year, this was the sharpest Eli and the offense was to date.

It helped that the line played better too. But the quick passes were hit almost all day.
Wait, so if you give Eli time in the pocket...
BurberryManning : 12/22/2014 7:43 am : link
with any semblence of a running game he looks like a great QB? News at 11. If only he could have blocked for himself last season, some of the box score surfers wouldnt have been so quick to suggest that the Giants toss him in the scrap heap.

The Eli trade also came at a time when draft picks were exceedingly expensive. If I recall correctly, trading the 2005 1st round pick helped to create cap space that would be used for Plax and McKenzie.
Elite is the most overused word
LawrenceTaylor56 : 12/22/2014 7:46 am : link
when it comes to grading Eli. He's a very good QB, who like most other quarterbacks thrive on a running game and the front 5 giving him time.

What separates him from other QBs in the league is his brain.
Eli's numbers today
crick78 : 12/22/2014 7:53 am : link
if he put these kind of numbers for 11 games as you said he should....352att 275comp 78% 4301yds 33tds.

That seems kind of unrealistic for anyone to put up those kind of numbers for three quarters of a season year in and year out. Maybe you should temper your expectations.

Ignore the OP, I dont think there was one thing he wrote that made any sense.
I am just tired
crick78 : 12/22/2014 8:00 am : link
of fans being lazy about Eli's situation. They see Aaron Rodgers and decide they want Eli to have Aaron's numbers. However they don't understand a couple of things. First, Eli isn't Rodgers, Second, Eli has had one of the worst OLs in the league two years and running with little at skill positions until beckham. Not to mention running only his second system ever in the league!
I meant to say
crick78 : 12/22/2014 8:01 am : link
Running a new offensive system.
he played great
HomerJones45 : 12/22/2014 8:06 am : link
Threw the ball extremely well and good decisions. Great game.
I think Eli's been fine this season.
Ira : 12/22/2014 8:20 am : link
Early on the team was still learning the new offense and the ol wasn't in synch. But as the season continued his play became as good as the time the ol gave him allowed.
he
Les in TO : 12/22/2014 8:49 am : link
had a great game. the emergence of OBJ is going to kickstart this offense and re-ignite Eli like it did in 2005-2008 when Plax was here, only that OBJ is better than Plax talent-wise and whereas Plax had bouts of poutiness/disengagement, OBJ brings it each and every play every game.

Eli

Is a guy you put a large investment into yes we won two SB but I think most would agree he has been somewhere between ok and sort of good. He has teased us for years but has never really made the leap to top 5 status and remained there. The market will get him a big contract and his warrior attitude, I just want to see more of the QB we saw yesterday.

Sure you can say he has been a good QB but today we saw what he should have been regularly. New offense I don't see that big a difference except for the short passes still poor clock management during the games. Let's not forget this offense was supposed to add an additional 15-25 plays per game, did not happen. As I said he had 3-4 throws he would like back that he missed, but the big ones he made them today.

Just stop.
Not the best of his generation
RonJohnson : 12/22/2014 10:22 am : link
but keep him upright and give him a few weapons and he can win championships. What more do you want?

The thing about Eli is his big swings in his game. He can look awful, but he's also played his best in the biggest games. You have to live with the bad because eventually you the the good. An the good is really good.

If Eli brain separates him from the other QB's in the league why does he year after year have so many INT's? Sure the guy is football smart but throwing away the ball is also being smart. All QB's have bad games what we need from Eli is consistency from week to week without the bonehead plays that change the outcome of games.

I will say it again he looked as great as any QB in the league yesterday why can't we expect something close to that weekly?

Cause the risks Eli takes that end up in INTs also lead to Tyree's and Manningham's catches. You take the bad with the good.

And 5 of his 13 INTs this year happened in 1 game. It doesnt excuse the stat. But in 14 other games this year he has 8 INTs. Think thats pretty respectable?
Between ok and sort of good?

Holy smokes. I feel dumber just for having read that.
yep definitely picked the right day to pick on Eli
Giants11 : 12/22/2014 11:25 am : link
after he just torched a defense that hadn't given up a TD in a month for about 400 yds and 3 tds. This place has really gone down hill.
great game for Eli

It's really amazing to watch this happen repeatedly on BBI
montanagiant : 12/22/2014 11:33 am : link
Eli has a real good game, Eli somehow gets dogged for not doing even better. Eli has a real good season with a patchwork line and lacking all his weapons, Eli somehow gets dogged for not doing better.

This guy has brought more excitement and joy to us fans then anyone in the last 29 years. He most likely will bring more before he retires. Yet we still have fans questioning his worth.
nothing like a backhanded

compliment. Good grief, some of you are clueless. He is the best QB this organization has ever had, Period. Better enjoy him while it lasts.

when i see NYG fans complaining about Eli. If we get stuck with a schlub for a few years after Eli i will have to purposely get myself banned as I won't be able to handle these BBI experts clamoring for the good ole days when we had Eli. We have some of the dumbest fans in sports and they post on BBI.

He doesn't play in a vacuum. It's a team sport, and two teams impact his performances every game. Is that difficult to understand?
