Giants Defensive Coordinator in 2015

Big Rick in FL : 12/22/2014 8:27 am
I know we've played better as a D the last few weeks, but we've played shitty teams. I don't think that helps Fewell's chances of staying here in 2015.

If he does end up getting fired who do you want to replace him? I don't know much about the assistant coaches that are going to become Defensive Coordinators. I would assume the assistant coaches for the Seahawks, Cardinals, Rams and Bills are going to be hot commodities this off season. Any coaches on those teams stand out?

Do we go with a young assistant like we did last year with McAdoo or do we go with a guy with experience at DC? Maybe a college DC looking to make the jump. Somebody like Pat Narduzzi?

Like I said I don't know much about the young assistants. So let's hear from you guys who you think can restore some pride to the Defense that this franchise is known for.

I have no idea either

But since we are talking about assistant coaches I think Mike Tice has done a phenomenal job with Atlanta's OL this year considering all the injuries.

and after a disastrous start Fewell will simplify the offense in week 12.
who
Les in TO : 12/22/2014 8:44 am : link
is the current Boston College defensive coordinator? :)

In all seriousness, I have no idea who the top candidates are - but I do know this - notwithstanding the talent deficinecies, this is a defense that has been embarassed on multiple occassions this year - communication lapses leading to people being in the wrong place for uncontested wide open touchdowns or massive gains may be acceptable in high school or lower tier NCAA conferences, but not in the pros. The fact that it's happened repeatedly under fewell over the last few years is an indictment. He's gotta go.
I would be shocked if Fewell is back
Big Rick in FL : 12/22/2014 8:46 am : link
We had the worst defense in the league up until 3 weeks ago. Yes we looked better, but it was against the Titans, Redskins and Rams. All pretty terrible offenses. Mara has to do something to shake the team up. It's not going to be Coughlin or McAdoo. It has to be Fewell and he completely deserves to be gone.

One coach who does interest me is Pepper Johnson. He knows Coughlin. He's a Belicheck disciple coaching in NE for 13 years. He won multiple Super Bowls. So he has plenty of playoff experience. Is still fairly young. The Pats players really liked him. They were pissed when he was fired. Now he's the DLine coach for the Bills and they are by far the best DLine in the league. Yes I know they have Mario, Dareus and Kyle Williams. They are all playing better then they ever have. Jerry Hughes who many considered a bust in Indy has been awesome for the Bills too. I'm hoping we at least interview him.
The rush defense is 30th in the league
jeff57 : 12/22/2014 8:48 am : link
They need to get someone to improve that. And yes, another DT and MLB would help.

But I'll wager that Fewell will be back.

Yes we've improved the last few weeks

We are still ranked 28th. We need a change.
I think Fewell here
micky : 12/22/2014 9:06 am : link
TC talks him up.
We thought he was gone before,
Doomster : 12/22/2014 9:08 am : link
and then find out he was extended.....nothing would surprise me...he could/should be canned or they will look the other way and say if only for the injuries, this defense would have been much better....but once again, this defense rises up against the likes of Bortles, Mettenburger, RGIII, and Hill, similar to the string of qb's this defense faced last year, to inflate it's defensive stats....but the philosophy is STILL the same...bend, but don't break.....let the other team control the time of possession......make the other team make mistakes to stop themselves.....

But good teams don't make mistakes....bad teams do....that's why we beat bad teams and lose to good one's....

But the good new is, if Houston beats Jax next week, we will finally have defeated a team with a winning record and starting qb, for the first time since the 2012 season....but it comes with the caveat that, A. Foster did not play in that game....

Bring Fewell back.
I don't think Coughlin
Big Rick in FL : 12/22/2014 9:11 am : link
Is going to have any say if Fewell is back or not. You know damn well he didn't want Gilbride gone last year. Look how that worked out.

Yes we have a ton of injuries. It sucks. The Cardinals do too and they are a 10 win team. They have more significant injuries on D then us.

I'm almost certain
mrvax : 12/22/2014 9:13 am : link
that the HC, DC and OC will return much to the fans consternation.
I will be shocked...
okiegiant : 12/22/2014 9:26 am : link
if Fewell isn't back next year. I just don't see a change coming even though I agree with the a change is needed crowd.

this defense broke against Bortles, was exposed against RG3, and looked bad yesterday on the whole with yet another gimme touchdown allowed.

watch the seattle debacle again (everyone on defense was fewelled by seattle's simple option play) or the last drive of the second cowboys game (fewell admitted things happened too quickly and the wrong guys were out on the field), the second half of the colts game where fewell stopped blitzing, the detroit opening week game where there were gift touchdowns, losing to drew stanton, getting embarassed by philly, the list goes on.

if you need more evidence, re-watch the 2012 season, especially the second half of the year (bengals, ravens, falcons games).

this is a poorly coached D.

i'm ok with Coughlin and McAdoo being back IF and only if a new DC is hired who will have a long leash to be in charge.
I dont see Coughlin firing Fewell

as much as I would like to see it. The only way he leaves is if he gets a head coaching offer which I also dont see happening.

What About Rocky Seto the Passing Game Coordinator for Seattle?
HugeS : 12/22/2014 8:28 pm : link
Hired on February 4, 2010, in a quality control/ defense role, former USC linebacker Seto joined the NFL coaching ranks after 11 seasons at USC. On January 18, 2011, he was promoted to assist Kris Richard with the defensive backs, with his focus on the safeties group, and on February 14, 2012, was promoted to his current role.

Seto’s defensive backfield was one of the NFL’s most-improved, with three of its four starters playing in the Pro Bowl, with Earl Thomas being elected as a starter. They totaled 17 of the team’s 22 interceptions, its most since the 2004 season. Led by the Pro Bowl tandem of Thomas and Kam Chancellor, the two ranked second and third for most tackles on the team, combining for 186, with six interceptions and 18 passes defensed.

Seto was USC’s defensive coordinator/secondary coach in 2009, after three seasons coaching the secondary from 2006-08, following two years of coaching the linebackers (2004-05).

Fewell's gone. TC taking him up probably only indicates he hears the fans, the media, and maybe the Maras building the gallows. He's sticking up for his staff.

Exactly what I was looking for. I don't know any assistants. Would like a Seahawks assistant though. Especially a good who coached the DBs. We need more of what Seattle does on D. Going to look into him more. Thanks!

Why not?

Another Up and Coming Under the Radar Guy Patrick Graham - Patriots
HugeS : 12/22/2014 10:15 pm : link
Patrick Graham, who is in his sixth season with the Patriots, was moved back to linebackers coach in 2014. Graham previously coached linebackers in 2011 and moved to defensive line coach for two years from 2012-13. In 2013, Graham coached a defensive line in which both starting defensive tackles were placed on injured reserve before midseason and the defense still finished 10th in the NFL in points allowed. Additionally, defensive ends Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich had standout seasons. Jones set a career high with 11 1/2 sacks and Ninkovich tied a career high with eight. In Graham's first three seasons as a defensive positional coach, the Patriots defense helped the club lead the NFL in turnover differential in 2012 and 2010 and finish first in the AFC in 2011. Graham was a defensive assistant coach for the 2010 season and was a coaching assistant 2009. Graham joined the Patriots after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame (2007-08), where he worked with the defense. He previously spent three seasons coaching at Richmond; one as assistant defensive line coach (2004) and two as tight ends coach (2005-06). Prior to coaching at Richmond, Graham spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Wagner College (2002-03).

PLAYING
Graham played on the defensive line at Yale, seeing playing time as a junior and senior.

PERSONAL
He earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Yale in 2001 and had a concentration of studies in economics and African American studies. A decorated student-athlete and Yale Merit Scholar, Graham earned the Jackie Robinson scholarship, Yale University Scholarship, Yankee Gas Scholarship and the State Heisman Trophy. Graham is married to Pamela, and was born Jan. 24, 1979, in Des Plaines, Ill.

Really hope Seto is on the short list. Heard he has been instrumental behind the scenes in Seattle's defensive resurgence. Very bright young guy.
Love Pepper but he's been a positional coach for a really long time albeit a really good one. Not sure what to make of that.
