I know we've played better as a D the last few weeks, but we've played shitty teams. I don't think that helps Fewell's chances of staying here in 2015.
If he does end up getting fired who do you want to replace him? I don't know much about the assistant coaches that are going to become Defensive Coordinators. I would assume the assistant coaches for the Seahawks, Cardinals, Rams and Bills are going to be hot commodities this off season. Any coaches on those teams stand out?
Do we go with a young assistant like we did last year with McAdoo or do we go with a guy with experience at DC? Maybe a college DC looking to make the jump. Somebody like Pat Narduzzi?
Like I said I don't know much about the young assistants. So let's hear from you guys who you think can restore some pride to the Defense that this franchise is known for.
In all seriousness, I have no idea who the top candidates are - but I do know this - notwithstanding the talent deficinecies, this is a defense that has been embarassed on multiple occassions this year - communication lapses leading to people being in the wrong place for uncontested wide open touchdowns or massive gains may be acceptable in high school or lower tier NCAA conferences, but not in the pros. The fact that it's happened repeatedly under fewell over the last few years is an indictment. He's gotta go.
One coach who does interest me is Pepper Johnson. He knows Coughlin. He's a Belicheck disciple coaching in NE for 13 years. He won multiple Super Bowls. So he has plenty of playoff experience. Is still fairly young. The Pats players really liked him. They were pissed when he was fired. Now he's the DLine coach for the Bills and they are by far the best DLine in the league. Yes I know they have Mario, Dareus and Kyle Williams. They are all playing better then they ever have. Jerry Hughes who many considered a bust in Indy has been awesome for the Bills too. I'm hoping we at least interview him.
But I'll wager that Fewell will be back.
But good teams don't make mistakes....bad teams do....that's why we beat bad teams and lose to good one's....
But the good new is, if Houston beats Jax next week, we will finally have defeated a team with a winning record and starting qb, for the first time since the 2012 season....but it comes with the caveat that, A. Foster did not play in that game....
Yes we have a ton of injuries. It sucks. The Cardinals do too and they are a 10 win team. They have more significant injuries on D then us.

this defense broke against Bortles, was exposed against RG3, and looked bad yesterday on the whole with yet another gimme touchdown allowed.
watch the seattle debacle again (everyone on defense was fewelled by seattle's simple option play) or the last drive of the second cowboys game (fewell admitted things happened too quickly and the wrong guys were out on the field), the second half of the colts game where fewell stopped blitzing, the detroit opening week game where there were gift touchdowns, losing to drew stanton, getting embarassed by philly, the list goes on.
if you need more evidence, re-watch the 2012 season, especially the second half of the year (bengals, ravens, falcons games).
this is a poorly coached D.
i'm ok with Coughlin and McAdoo being back IF and only if a new DC is hired who will have a long leash to be in charge.
Seto’s defensive backfield was one of the NFL’s most-improved, with three of its four starters playing in the Pro Bowl, with Earl Thomas being elected as a starter. They totaled 17 of the team’s 22 interceptions, its most since the 2004 season. Led by the Pro Bowl tandem of Thomas and Kam Chancellor, the two ranked second and third for most tackles on the team, combining for 186, with six interceptions and 18 passes defensed.
Seto was USC’s defensive coordinator/secondary coach in 2009, after three seasons coaching the secondary from 2006-08, following two years of coaching the linebackers (2004-05).
Why not?
I could dig that. Fans would love him. It would be a nice move..Let he and BM audition for HC.

Love Pepper but he's been a positional coach for a really long time albeit a really good one. Not sure what to make of that.
