I submit to BBI that it's time to start Nassib for the following reasons:
1) Getting him in a real game is extremely important for his development.
2) 1 good game could make him a valuable trade asset and this team has holes. We've seen time and time again a QB having light but promising experience getting traded for a high pick. I never doubted this but I think the Eli critics can now see that we won't need to replace him for years and Eli is one of the most durable players of all time, a back up QB is a huge luxury when your Oline, Pass rush, S and LB positions need work.
3) I don't really see an argument to be made for Eli needing to play. He got injured in a worthless game last year. You could certainly make the argument that he needed to develop chemistry with Odell but I think we can safely say that has been accomplished and one game isn't going to make much of a difference. Because this has been pretty clear for a bit, I might have even started Nassib in Washington. (St. Louis would not have been a good first match up for him however)
4) There are a lot of teams clustered at 6-9 a loss could swing us 5-6 picks. I know people will say "we got Odell last year at 12" but we could have also got him at 8 and the higher you pick the higher chance you have for a hit. We want to see what Nassib has but he also gives us a better chance to lose and I do not want to win the game. (I can't root against any of the Giants players or plays but philosophically a loss does more for me than a win)
5) I know I just said i'd prefer a loss but if we beat Philly with our back up that would be a nice exclamation on their disappointing season.
6) We've been giving a lot of the other young players a shot all season, play this kid!
Yeah, good luck selling that one to Eli, who hasn't missed a game since he was a freshman in High School.

Yeah, I don't mind Nassib playing the second half, but I'm sure Eli values the streak (and I like it as well).
And I wouldn't bench Odell, definitely want to see Nassib with him. (the better stats he puts up the more value he has)
Revenge for the ass kicking this team got in Philly.
Is it meaningless? Playoff wise sure, but I want to see a W to end the season. Sit Eli? Let him light up the Eagles for three TD's. Personally, I hope to never see Nassib play.
I wouldn't seeing something similar to preseason where Eli plays the first half and a series or two in the second half and get Nassib 4-5 series in the second half.
He is also in the running for the 3rd QB in the pro bowl (behind Rodgers/Romo).
He has had a fantastic bounce back year.
And yet people want more Nassib. How about we just kick the shit out of the Eagles and end the year on a good note.
This is a silly thread.
There are no good reasons to play Nassib during the last game of the season, at home against a division rival when your QB has the third longest starting streak in NFL history, the offense is playing well, the OL is protecting him and said division rival squashed them in the first game. None.
While i agree that it's "not in Coughlin's DNA" - it also shouldn't be in any coaches DNA to do this.
Any one who is "hoping for a loss" is a total loser.
As long as we are playing what ifs. I could just imagine the outcry towards Coughlin if Nassib started and at some point he poorly lead Odell over the middle to where he hung him out to dry and Odell gets injured.
Any one who is "hoping for a loss" is a total loser.
There is a difference between saying i'm hoping for a loss and "philosophically i'd prefer one" if you could comprehend writing with words more advanced than "dumb and loser" maybe then you can try to start writing intelligent things yourself.
What was that other crap OP was talking about?
and/or a viable 2nd string QB in case something happens to Eli?
looking around the league, there are many teams trying to win games with inadequate quarterback play, which also astounds me when people criticize Eli Manning
think about our beloved Giants without Eli Manning at quarterback..
anyway, I believe Nassib stays put until the Giants decide either he is the next starter after Eli, or he is not good enough and we acquire someone else in the draft that has more potential
I care and others should too, we should want raise his value, trade him and shore up weaker positions than QB. (of which we have many)
Yeah, good luck selling that one to Eli, who hasn't missed a game since he was a freshman in High School.
This.
Plus:
-He's about to break the 4000 yard mark.
-He's still working towards a Hall of Fame entry.
-He can always get more experience against a division rival.
-The chemistry between Eli and his receivers gets better with every throw.
-Beckham is working towards awards and NFL records. Eli is his best chance.
-We owe the Eagles a game.
-Eli deserves the team's support.

It matters because we very well could have another 6-8 years of Eli. If Nassib has the goods we won't be able to afford to keep him and the closer he gets to FA the less leverage we have...

I do not mind giving Eli the first half to break 4000/30, help Beckham break his record, etc. If the game is out of hand at halftime then play Nassib. Otherwise keep Eli in and evaluate again after the 3rd Quarter. If this game is close Eli stays in
A) develop the young backup
B) assess the backup in live action
C) obtain a higher draft pick
Alternatively, by committing considerable playing time to Nassib the Giants would effectively be ceding their best chance to win, risking one of the more impressive streaks in the NFL, and minimizing any chemistry developed within the offense by way of live reps.
This is not uncharted territory, as we can sift through time to demonstrate situations where teams either hamstrung themselves or benefitted themselves by optomozing their draft position in latter stages of the season.
Just not his philosophy. And good for him.
Once we were mathematically eliminated, many on this board were hoping that guys, who were sitting on the bench and not getting a chance to play, would get that chance.....the Wynn's, Bromley's, Kennard's, Berhe's, Washington's, Moore's, etc.
If we lost because we played these guys, no big deal....but I don't think the majority of Giant fans were hoping we would lose, just accepting the fact, if we did.....we had nothing to play for except for the fact that, let's see what guys on the bench could do, and see what they could contribute to the future of this team...we are not playing playoff teams......we are playing teams who are running out the string, just like we are...
Which I guess is OK, but not the way that the Giants (or I would want the Giants) to operate.
2. he's chasing an ironman record that is about as legit as any in sports
3. I don't really care about Nassib or his trade value. We need a solid back-up so trading him isn't really something I want to do anyway.
Enough with the roster turnover, keep our guys and let them grow.
He should not get playing time if we are losing..
He should not be getting playing time when we are winning...
It's funny reading some of this shit, because you'd think Eli is like fucking Timmy Tim, in the christmas carol. Eli Manning is one of the toughest QBs in the league. No other fan bases talk about their Qbs getting benched. Eli Manning should not be coming out of the game at anytime. If we are up by a lot or down by a lot. He should only come out if he is hurt. If he isn't hurt, then he should be taking every snap.
