I think OBJ was thinking about passing (but not to Eli of course) but if the WRs had been given room to run it might have opened up more running room for OBJ to run or pass, which ever was the best option. But in the red zone area, it is pretty much OBJ running the ball.
decided that he wasnt going to cover Eli and just sprinted into the backfield. They had to know they werent going to throw it to their franchise QB and risk injury
The most envcouraging thing about McAdoo is that he has introduced some unpedicatbility into the Giants' offense.
That's what Iiked. That he was willing to show us that he will do anything to get the ball into our play makers hand. Either run the wildcat or have OBJ throw the ball.
He said in the beggining of theyear that he would tailor the offense towards the personnel, and he has.
for one thing, you know that the odds of the ball being thrown to the QB...and him catching it downfield if he's not an atheletic type...are pretty slim.
Sanchez used to line up at WR when the Jets ran the Wildcat and it was the same thing. He half-assed it down the field pretending like he was going to get thrown to
remember when the Giants threw a pass to Phil Simms (incomplete) against San Diego in '86?
Yes, I think it was Tony Galbreath who lofted a perfect pass that hit Simms right in the hands, but he bobbled the ball and stumbled and fell flat on his chest. It would've been an easy walk-in for six.
the only trick play I remember usually working during the Reeves era..
..was the flea-flicker. We ran it every time we played Washington for whatever reason for his first couple years if I recall
Dave Meggett had the Redskins number. Reeves was deadly throwing the HB option when he played for Dallas under Tom Landry and he implemented that into the Giants offense. Even Tyrone Wheatley threw a TD pass in 1996 at Detroit. Meggett TD Passes - ( New Window )
Nope, can't picture it.
If he had thrown that to Eli he could have walked in.. the db literally slid inside as soon as he saw it was Eli lined up wide

I think Beckham passing would be more effective after Eli takes the snap and hands off or laterals to Beckham.
The Wildcat play with Eli split wide is only really possible around the goal line.
Funny, that replay is shown in the '86 'America's Game' when they focus on Phil's early career struggles.
