The whole idea that this kid is making himself a target cause of spinning the ball is ridiculous.
He is a target because he is good and because he is a rookie.
I don't think Manning and Coughlin should be telling him to be more respectful or whatever. The bottom line is if the other team is offended by Beckham spinning the ball, they should find another line of work.
The Rams were out of line with the cheap shots - let's not pretend Beckham brought any of it onto himself and the kid has to defend himself when it happens.
Beckham has done little, if not nothing wrong, and if people are offended by his conduct, I just don't get it.
Maybe a small deference to what TC is telling him...
Maybe a small deference to what TC is telling him...
That was a sarcastic gesture
I think Beckham would be well advised to tone it down if for no other reason than he looks kind of dumb doing his dances. Other than that who gives a shit. Just keep playing well.
But he'd be ripped on BBI if he pulled the same shit on another team. No doubt about it.
I don't hate Maclin, and I don't hate Dez. I absolutely had Desean but that's more because he's a POS human being.
Please give me a freaking break you can't even begin to compare Desean Jackson to OBJ.
Tell me when was the last time OBJ mocked a player/team BEFORE he got into the end zone? He hasn't even mocked a team AFTER!
Has OBJ like an idiot lost a sure touchdown because he wanted to celebrate before he got into the end zone? No,. Stop the idiotic comparisons.
It's not confusing. Beckham wasn't flagged for spinning the ball.
Oh well.
here are some of the coach's comments:
“He will tone it down, he will. He did.”
from Beckham:
I don't think it's as a big an issue as some people. I think it's over. for now.
Yes, you will. You'll bitch up a storm like the rest of BBI.
Somehow, I see the same people arguing for the "old school" way of celebration also bitching about this league becoming a flag football league.
Just a strange observation.

Why is that strange?
It would be weird if they were against the celebrations but embraced the flag football rules, or vice versa
He is not backing down one inch and is giving it back to DB's that are trying to intimidate him.
He burns to win and be great. Let him be.
it was not the ball spinning it was that the defensive player was right next to him
and even that was no what gave him penalty
if you look at replay
ODJ spins the ball and then looks up and makes EYE CONTACT with defensive player
as soon as he does - ref reaches for flag
But you can either celebrate like Ochocinco or like Barry Sanders, hopefully OBJ will find his niche somewhere in between. Us older folks would prefer the latter, but it is a young mans game.

“I spun the ball in front of me. But it is something that was a penalty,” Beckham said. “That’s just being young and trying to learn the rules and what you can and can’t do. I didn’t know that that was a penalty.”

The defender walked over to him while he was spinning. How is that taunting. Can't believe I quoting Banks but you just gave up the TD why are you going over to say anything? He was wide open what was the purpose of speaking to Beckham?
If you ask me, I'm more concerned that he's going to get flagged for that "team selfie" thing he did after he scored both times yesterday. It looks like a coordinated celebration. But don't tell me that spinning the ball or doing the Whip is considered an excessive celebration now. Guys are pulling that shit after catching a third down conversion.
It all depends on your point of view. Francesa is super conservative. Of course he doesn't like it.
TC himself doesn't agree.
Q: Do you also want him to continue to play with something of an edge without crossing whatever the line is?
A: Absolutely, there is no way you want to take anything away from the guy on the field, except for some of the things you see. I am not trying to tell you that everything he does is intentionally directed at the opponent. It is not, but if it is being interpreted by the officials as it is, then we have to do something about it.
Yet he loves Manziel doing the money sign stuff go figure. Has no problem with Gronk and Brady antics either.

HE was referring to Fassel (Surprise) letting him get away with it as a rookie. And as a second year player. By the time TC got there it was too late
Jeff Fisher's teams are always full of scumbags. I recall the 2010 game against the Titans when Cortland Finnegan and the rest of their team acted like dirtbags. Odell Beckham was a senior in high school that year.
Odell was just the excuse for the bullshit they were going to pull anyway.
Shockey had issues rooted in his upbringing and bad habits off the field.
Basically he had enough practices to perfect that "Whip" because it's still amateurishly done...;)

before we get 100 more posts all saying the same thing as the first 15 say, who said he should tone it down?
No one?
the Rams?
TC said it
If you made the defender look bad, you just handed the ball to the ref and went back to the huddle because if you did anything that might be interpreted as "rubbing the defender's nose in it", you'd leave the field on a stretcher. These days, TV cameras, instant replays and such coupled with penalties and fines, not so much.
Players celebrate a good play. I'm OK with that as long as it doesn't delay the game.
And meanwhile, in the "Instant Karma" department:
Ram defender went to "light OB up", OB juked, and Ram defender took his own teammate out of the game.
That took all the fun out of the "let's hurt the other player" stupidity.
What happened to the adage, if you want him to stop celebrating, then keep him out of the end zone.
good points
Giants team needs leadership, especially from a guy that produces on the field. Fans loved Bradshaw and Jacobs fire. OBJ is the next leader up and hopefully it will encourage the other young guys, from the draft that were captains of their college teams, to take on a leadership role.
