The whole idea that this kid is making himself a target cause of spinning the ball is ridiculous.
He is a target because he is good and because he is a rookie.
I don't think Manning and Coughlin should be telling him to be more respectful or whatever. The bottom line is if the other team is offended by Beckham spinning the ball, they should find another line of work.
The Rams were out of line with the cheap shots - let's not pretend Beckham brought any of it onto himself and the kid has to defend himself when it happens.
Beckham has done little, if not nothing wrong, and if people are offended by his conduct, I just don't get it.
If he needs to do this to maintain his competitive fire, I don't care. Some of the best players of all time played angry and tried to embarrass people. It was a motivator.
You work so hard to get into the end zone, when you do, you should celebrate. He chided his team when they'd get there and not recognize the accomplishment.
But....I think Coughlin was only upset Beckham's celebration cost the team 15 yards, otherwise I doubt Coughlin would give a shit what he does in the end zone if it's within the rules.
But the notion that the bulls-eye is on his back because of his 'antics' is laughable. He's being targeted because he has been embarassing defenses for nearly two straight months, despite game-planning to stop him, on his way to a historic rookie year. It must be frustrating as a defensive player...
There is no doubt he raises the level of play for the whole team. NO ONE - esp coughlin and Eli want that toned down or stopped.. The point is to be aware that this is happening and to adjust. additionally he can't cost his team re: penalties.
I love that he doesn't back down. and I LOVE that he and the young Giants REFUSE TO BE INTIMIDATED. This will serve them well in the future.
I do have a problem with the inconsistency of the officiating. He has been danciing like that for weeks and now it is taunting. horse shit. I think Fisher might have "prepped" those refs with that flag, cause it went down fast with no real cause.
I'm old school. I like the Barry Sanders TD celebration, but that is not the game, or this generation. I have no problem with the dance as long as it doesn't draw a foul...which it shouldn't have
What Beckham did was 100% fine. He was jarring back and forth with the CB all game, which happens to just about every WR in the NFL. This just happened to blow up due to cheap shots.
There's no chance in hell I want Beckham to tone it down. Anyone who does is crazy. You can't ask these guys to be lights out all the time with 100% focus on being the best they can and not take some of the very small side effects with it.
Personally I prefer when a player acts like he has been there before and doesn't feel the need to celebrate so much. However if a player needs that in order to get up for his A game I don't want to stifle him from doing his thing as long as it doesn't go too far.
No one?

I think Beckham would be well advised to tone it down if for no other reason than he looks kind of dumb doing his dances. Other than that who gives a shit. Just keep playing well.
But he'd be ripped on BBI if he pulled the same shit on another team. No doubt about it.
The Rams were clearly targeting Beckham. Their Head Coach and DC both have histories of coaching very dirty teams using very dirty tactics. They were trying to hurt Beckham. There should certainly be fines for a number of players in the scrum on the sidelines. But, between the hit that incited it and the attempted hit on Beckham that ended up injuring a Rams player, plus the history of Williams and the history of Fisher, the league should be seriously looking at stiff fines for the Rams players and coaches.
What happened to the adage, if you want him to stop celebrating, then keep him out of the end zone.
he did his typical celebration
but the defender was still close to him
and then OBJ glance up and made eye contact with the defender as he was celebrating
that is when they threw the penalty
That said, he talks too much. He is for ever jawing and chirping at the opposing DB, that is what gets you in trouble. Breeland got caught last week when they were exchanging pleasantries with each other and it could have been Beckham that got the 15 yds, he said it after the game.
I think that if they called him for the ball spinning, then the refs should be called on the carpet. If it was the talking, then he needs to stop.
If Eli is saying he needs to tone it down, then maybe we should believe Eli.
That D was getting a ton of press about how great they were, To them there was no way a rookie was going to come into their house and play well. When ODB took over that game and they realized early on they had nothing to stop him with, the frustration took hold.
Rookies are not supposed to be able to what he does
That's why I think his stuff isn't overdone.
But then again, I don't care about any of that stuff. I just don't think anything justifies cheap shots and why change your style for one team - a Fisher-coached one.
Personally I like the celebrations. Some are very entertaining and others not so much. Those things can be entertaining and I love how Odell answered the questions in the presser, he is simply having fun out there. Not trying to make the opponent look bad, but enjoying the moment! Yet people want to say, if you score act like you've been there before. So you can't enjoy doing it over and over again? So what if it's your one and only touchdown for the year...who doesn't like seeing Hynoski do his crazy dance once a year?!
Additionally, I hate how other players try to mock others that do have "signature" celebratory moves/dances. Like when someone sacks Rodgers and then does the championship belt thing...come on man be original!
Maybe its what I was used to. Playing sports and growing up in the 80s, there was more showboating and trash talking on the hard court and football field. But you had to go out there and make them pay for it. If not, they were gonna keep coming at you.
he took them out of their game and still dominated them.
it caused them to head hunt, take penalties, get guys ejected, etc
this is to our advantage and was yesterday
i do not see what anyone would want to take this away from Odell.
the guy talks th talk and can walk the walk. its rare and it shouldnt be stomped out. its worth the occassional 15 yards.
the rams looked like fools out there yesterday
Maybe a small deference to what TC is telling him...

That was a sarcastic gesture

I don't hate Maclin, and I don't hate Dez. I absolutely had Desean but that's more because he's a POS human being.
Please give me a freaking break you can't even begin to compare Desean Jackson to OBJ.
Tell me when was the last time OBJ mocked a player/team BEFORE he got into the end zone? He hasn't even mocked a team AFTER!
Has OBJ like an idiot lost a sure touchdown because he wanted to celebrate before he got into the end zone? No,. Stop the idiotic comparisons.
It's not confusing. Beckham wasn't flagged for spinning the ball.
Oh well.
