the only people who thought that Josh Smith contract was the pistons.
He could help some teams though. You wont have to pay him jack and if he goes to a vet team im sure they could handle him. Im sure he will end up on the Spurs and he will redefine himself and play amazing for them.
I didnt like the signing when it happened (actually, I've hated just about every DET signing since Ben Gordon). But some of this is on the Pistons. They knew what they were signing up for with J Smoove. Dollar talent, 10 cent BBIQ. WTF did they think was going to happen when a guy who was always sketchy on shot selection was put onto a young team that didnt have a clear alpha-dog scorer like Joe Johnson was in ATL?
Looks at Smith's stats per 36 minutes -- the counting stats are nearly identical. Small reduction in rebs (possibly attributable to being on worse team and time at SF), small increase in assists, same steals, .6 fewer blocks (material but not huge), same TOV, fouls, and PPG. So why has he gone from a 18.4 PER guy to a 14.1 PER guy? His shooting percentages are way worse across the board. Overall Total Shooting % declined from .516 in ATL to .452 (.417 thus year). He's a power forward shooting 41% from the floor (39% this year). Well duh. Anyone in the league could have told you that a Smith-centric offense was a ticket to loserville. They should have just benched him everytime he broke the offense. The offense should run thru Drummond.
everyone knew that this Smith/Monroe/Drummond fit could end up backfiring in Detroit, but I don't think anyone expected Smith to be quite THIS bad.
He's a player that completely failed to maximize his impact by playing the wrong style of ball. If he stuck in the post and worried about doing the dirty work more, he'd be an All-Star. But he's just a dumb player.
I wonder if the Rockets go after him, I don't know how I feel about that.
With Monro and Drummond, Smith had to play on the perimeter too much, and that isn't his strong suit. Play him as a traditional 4, and he's a damn good player. Not worth what the Pistons paid him, but still good.
and he'll make a massive contribution. Thing is Josh Smith is really good at basketball, except for shot selection. He's a difference maker with his defense and rebounds, and he can score.
I think he needs to go somewhere that has a really good coach who has the total buying on OFFENSE of his vets (sorry Thibs), and who also has a lot of accomplished vets. It would also help if he wasnt filling a glaring need, but rather was a luxury -- so he couldnt pull his BS and still stay out there. You need Smith to be a JAG. Spurs make a TON of sense.
won't make DMo expendable in Morey's eyes. DMo has been a real revelation for the Rockets this year and has a really unique skillset for a Big. He's developed a really effective and crafty post-up game with help from McHale/Hakeem. He's got 3pt range so you have to respect him on the perimeter. He is a very solid defensive player who can guard some Centers.
If the Rockets do sign Smith, I hope they are patient and wait to see if he fits in with the team before trading DMo. If Smith looks like a good fit in H-Town, I might be willing to move DMo+ for Dragic. But that's a tough one because DMo has just been so impressive.
He had a a PER of 22 and WS/48 of .161 in his second season, playing center. Then Drummond came and the last two years as a PF, Monroe's PER has dropped to 18.1 and 18.5 and WS/48 to .106 and .101.

Yet I still liked that signing more than the Jennings trade. Im trying to figure out how you could even win with Jennings at PG.
They have a lot of veterans on that team and i think Carlisle can keep him in check..
