Eli's streak

Bill in UT : 12/22/2014 12:00 pm
Just to put a little perspective on it. If Eli starts the Philly game, his streak will be at 167 regular season games. The all-time leader is Brett Farve at 297. That's another 130 games. For Eli to break the record, he will have to play 9 more seasons, until age 43. He's 43 games behind Peyton for second place. He'd need to play 3 seasons more than Peyton to pass him.
That really puts into perspective just how impressive

Favre's streak remains.
Breaking Favre's record would be quite an accomplishment
GloryDayz : 12/22/2014 12:02 pm : link
Doubt it would happen. That record will probably last a long time. You got to play so long and stay healthy just as long.
I think Favre played a ton of games

He probably shouldn't have for the sake of keeping that streak going
Damn

That's amazing what Favre did. And With more physical NFL

For most of his career, I think Favre was just a very durable QB. Late in his career, though, I think he played in some games he really shouldn't have just for the sake of the streak.
OK

I'm down with 9 more seasons, and 2 more SBs; gimme a coupla more SB-MVPs for him too.
I'm shocked Eli is still alive today
The Turk : 12/22/2014 12:19 pm : link
after playing the Rams behind that offensive line yesterday. I mean considering the angst here last week about how we'd be lucky to have Eli on the same flight back home with the rest of the team.
I don't think that favre streak is ever going down
GMenLTS : 12/22/2014 12:19 pm : link
much as I'd love to see Eli do it. He'll get out way before he has a shot
Punters and kickers hardly play that long
Joe in Knoxville : 12/22/2014 12:21 pm : link
And they take the same amount of hits over their career as some QBs take in a game
I'll take Eli beating Favre in the 07 NFC title game in GB

over a consecutive games started streak any day of the week.
The thing about favre
weeg in the bronx : 12/22/2014 12:23 pm : link
He was as still a top QB until the end. His first season for the Vikings (his second to last year in the league) was statistically one of the best of his career. A rare talent.
For now
upstatenyg : 12/22/2014 12:24 pm : link
I will take him passing Peyton. 3 years is still a long time.
is favre really at 297?
whobetta : 12/22/2014 12:52 pm : link
holy shiznit.

but favre didn't play till he was 43... did he start right away, or no in ATL etc...?

Eli started ASAP like what 9 games into a season that doesn't seem to make sense to me

thanks again
I don't think Eli will play another nine years
BlackLight : 12/22/2014 1:58 pm : link
even if he does stay healthy, and even if he does keep his play at a high level. Peyton, I could absolutely see it. But Eli doesn't seem to treat playing football like the only thing he was born to do.

Favre was just under 23 when his streak started, Eli was about 2 months short of 24. Favre played until he was a couple of months past 41. He played 6 games less than 19 full seasons. Eli would actually have to play just 3 games of the ninth season to pass him.
build a stud OL

actually 8 seasons + 3 games to break the record...

8x16+3 = 131

Huh??
Doesn't Favre have CTE symptoms?
exiled : 12/22/2014 4:16 pm : link
I thought I'd heard that he was having memory problems. I'd rather Eli NOT beat that record and keep his brain intact. He deserves a post-football life of long memories.

+1 not to take anything away from Eli who is tough as nails, but Favre really was remarkably resilient notwithstanding all the self-medication!
Playoff games should count in this streak
Exit 172 : 12/22/2014 4:35 pm : link
Isn't it about not missing a start?

Favre and Peyton started a ton of playoff games, too, during their streaks. Eli can add 11 games to his streak.

I think Favre had 24 playoff starts in addition to the 297 regular season.
