Jeff Fisher Presser

AnishPatel : 12/22/2014 12:18 pm
Did OBJ say he will set an NFL record on that defense or anything like that?
Jeff F. says someone on his team said that. Maybe that's why it led to that defense trying to take him out.

I don't recall OBJ saying anything like that or else the media here would have reported it.

Scumbags from the Buddy Ryan coaching tree. Posses me off that Williams wasn't banned for life.
I listened to the Fisher statements
cosmicj : 12/22/2014 12:45 pm : link
nothing very controversial there. He didn't refer to headhunting. Mentioned he'd heard that Beckham had said something about setting an NFL record. Anish has it right above but only the first sentence is from Fisher.
Well he did set an NFL rookie record
moespree : 12/22/2014 12:49 pm : link
Did he not? So that's probably what he was referring to, and guess what? He succeeded.

So Fisher and Williams and the rest of those Buddy Ryan assholes can go cry in their sleep.
He also said
mjvm52106 : 12/22/2014 12:55 pm : link
Beckham is a very good player and will be a handful for teams to deal with for years to come. He said he and Eli are on the same page and working well.
I thought he was very complimentary
pjcas18 : 12/22/2014 1:02 pm : link
of the Giants - particularly Eli, Beckham, and the offense.

and in general just said they got beat.

I don't know how people turn this into some major negative.
Its funny that only Fisher heard
Peter from CT : 12/22/2014 1:03 pm : link
that Beckham had said something about setting an NFL record. Pretty sure the NY media would have been all over that.

I'm guessing that Fisher or his scumbag DC made that up.
I paraphrased it yesterday
mattlawson : 12/22/2014 1:03 pm : link
Q: why was the defense irritated with Beckham?

A: I was told by my defensive players that Beckham was saying he was going to set an NFL record, so... Ya know ...
If I'm a Rams fan,
kmed : 12/22/2014 1:06 pm : link
I want them taking that personally as well. As a Giants fan, clearly OBJ was in their heads and it caused them to do things that they shouldn't have done and it hurt their chances of winning so I can't complain. That scrum should have resulted in the Rams losing more players and yards, but it didn't.

It should've hurt them a lot more than it did. Ogletree should've been tossed and they should've had at least one other personal foul called against them. Morelli's crew was disgraceful.
My thing is if none of the beat writers
mattlawson : 12/22/2014 1:08 pm : link
Ask the questions when we want them to be asked -- how ridiculous is that. They stir the pot when there's nothing to stir... Yet now the turd is clearly there and they won't touch it
Agreed,
kmed : 12/22/2014 1:09 pm : link
it ended up hurting us more, but it shouldn't have. It also lit a fire in both teams a$$es, but we were smarter and able to channel that into a fire that helped us. They went over the line and took out their own player!
I realize Coughlin refuses to elaborate on it
mattlawson : 12/22/2014 1:10 pm : link
But you can ask Beckham if he actually did say those things pregame. To what extent he talked trash. To me the punishment doesn't fit the crime if all there is what's on the field in terms of celebrating. There's more to this just because it's Greg Williams

Yea, I was wondering if McDonald was still thinking about his hit on the next play...
I don't like the cheap hits out of bounds but the rest is fair game
steve in ky : 12/22/2014 1:23 pm : link
I remember when we played the Bills and their explosive offense in the Super Bowl our guys punishing their receivers into submission in order to take them out of their game and we Giant fans loved it. Targeting and punishing an offenses best weapon is as old as dirt.

Beckham has admitted that he likes to mix it up with the players he faces. I have no doubt he said something along those lines and have no problem with him doing that.

Punishing them within the rules is one thing. The McDonald fail and the late hits out of bounds are ridiculous. I blame most of those on incompetent officiating though. They lost control of that game early.

Yeah for some reason Odell isn't quite getting star treatment (protection) yet from the officials. That will come soon enough I assume.
Well it was Pete Morelli
moespree : 12/22/2014 1:35 pm : link
Who is legit one of the worst officials and best cases for forced retirement I can think of.
Outside of the QB position
GIANTSr01 : 12/22/2014 1:37 pm : link
I'm not sure "star" treatment really exists in the NFL. But he got scrub treatment yesterday. It's pathetic how many late hits he took when the NFL claims to be focusing on player safety...
I disagree
steve in ky : 12/22/2014 1:40 pm : link
I think certain receivers garner more calls for ticky-tac infractions than most other do.
maybe
GIANTSr01 : 12/22/2014 1:42 pm : link
though on second thought, I do think some elite CBs (Revis/Sherman) get away with extra contact.
Good point, that too
steve in ky : 12/22/2014 1:44 pm : link
I just think some stars get calls based on their reputations.
ie: The Giants vs. Bills Superbowl....
Britt in VA : 12/22/2014 1:45 pm : link

They were playing dirty yesterday.

steve in ky : 12/22/2014 1:55 pm : link
The first thing I said in my post was I didn't agree with the cheap shots. My point is teams targeting an offenses most explosive player in an attempt to inflict as much punishment as possible has been part of the NFL forever. I don't care for the dirty hits but the idea of physically imposing your will on an offensive threat in order to take him out of his game is fair game.
I don't think any of us have a problem with that...
Britt in VA : 12/22/2014 1:58 pm : link
but that's not what was happening last night. I think everybody is talking about the "dirty play" is referring to the numerous cheap shots, not the physical style of play. I'm all for physical style of defense.
McDonald said
GloryDayz : 12/22/2014 2:08 pm : link
I think that could have been the driving force behind their behavior yesterday. Knowing he's the only real threat, ande yet they were unable to stop him, that must have drove them crazy.

I'm sure Gregg Williams harped on that all week long, stop him and you stop the Giants, and I wouldnt be surprised if it was him who brought up the OBJ record and told something along the line of not going to happen to us, not on our turf. The same sick son of a bitch who said told his defense "Kill the head, and the body will die... We've got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore's head"... playing the niners a week after Gore was concussed.

McDonald said "he's the only dude they got",

Might have been that. That stat does ring a bell.
I just find it funny that everyone is scared to call Fisher dirty

but they have to warn their players about the cheap shots when they play a Fisher team. There appears to be denial or just a lot of ass kissing.

Beckham has eight consecutive games with 90-plus receiving yards; the NFL record is nine, set by Michael Irvin in 1995. … Beckham now has 79 receptions to set a Giants rookie record. TE Jeremy Shockey had 74 catches in 2002.

Beckham is the first player in NFL history to have 75 receptions in the first 11 games of his career.

Beckham, with two touchdowns, set a Giants rookie record for TD receptions with 11. The Giants’ rookie record for total touchdowns is 12 by Bill Paschal in 1943.

Off of Fischer's face.
McDonald
Reale01 : 12/22/2014 2:55 pm : link
McDonald hit Beckham late out of bounds but did not get called. He was yapping at Beckham all game. Two plays after the late hit Beckham catches TD - beat McDonald BAD - and spins ball. Don't dish it if you can't take it. The play that McDonald launched himself at Beckham after the ball was by him was extremely dirty and reckless and ended up injuring one of his own players.

Yeah, but the "launching" episode was clearly designed to injure. It's justice that OBJ matadored it and one of the Rams own suffered.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but I have a strong suspicion that the OBJ we see in interviews is vastly different than the OBJ that opponents face on the field.

I can easily see him going up to DBs in pre game warm ups and telling them he is going to set records against them today.

In the OP it addresses the idea about the defense trying to "take him out" My posts were drawing the distinction of how in the NFL teams have done that for years and I don't really have a problem with it as long as they are clean hits.

I see other fans saying that too. I mean, Beckham IS the only legitimate threat the Giants have, but shouldn't that make containing him that much simpler? Yet these defenses can't do it; McDonald, a guy who pledged this on his own word, could not do it.
