....form CInci was one of my fall back targets if Iupati and Franklin got too much $ elsewhere. He tore his ACL late in '13 but didn't miss any time in '14 and played the whole season. He even slid over to RT for a bit after Andre Smith went down and before they could get Winston on the field.
Michael Roos would make a good vet swing tackle if no one gives him starter money and he wants to keep playing.
Supply and demand are going to really work in JPP's favor as well. Only 4 of the top 20 edge defenders are 4-3 DEs; one of which is Anthony Spencer who's wearing down and the another is Greg Hardy who's a significant off the field risk now. So it's really a 2 man pool.
both with a negative rating. Not the end all, be all, but it's indicative of issues with players and how awful our defense was.
I just don't see Rolle back here. I think you need to re-do the defense. Rolle was a good player here for us, won a SB, but it's time to move forward with a new defensive core.
Giants definitely need to add a S in free agency and probably another one in the draft.
I wonder if they keep Stevie Brown on a cheap deal. Not sure he'll get a ton of interest from other teams.
in picking guys like Bromley and Hankins the last two years. I mean never say never, but I would suspect they won't go for a high-priced DT this year at all since they didn't keep Joseph last year.
More likely is a veteran to add to the rotation. I'd like to maybe see them take a look at Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton..
He was great for the Broncos these last few years and I'm not sure the Broncos can afford to keep him considering all the deals they've given out and having to try and keep some of their offensive players
with Brandon Spikes - underachiever in New England? Worth a look?
Sammo - Still in diapers re: his career. still, it remains to be seen whether Bromley can develop into the run stopper they need him to be. The way I see it, they have one complete DT - Hankins - everyone else's game is skewed to one side of their responsibilities - run (Patterson, Kuhn) versus pass (Jenkins, Bromley).
best way to look at this site is put in teams & ck their free agents.
do that with dallas & philly.
always like to sign free agents from those teams do to double benefit of weakening an opponent while strengthening yourself.
S - Da'Norris Searcy
LB - Geno Hayes
*LB - Brandon Spikes
G - Mike Iupati
TE - Virgil Green
DT - CJ Mosely
Iupati would be the perfect G to sign to improve our running game. Beatty, Iupati, Richburg, Schwartz/rookie, Pugh is a much improved OL and I think one that can run the ball much, much better and that's what we need to improve on next year.
Searcy is young and a huge upgrade over Rolle who is on the downside of his career.
Geno Hayes I'd sign to a 1-year deal, with a 2nd year option. If the Giants were to draft Shaq Thompson, they'd have someone in place to start there if Thompson isn't ready yet.
Mosely would be a nice depth signing at 32 years old. He would be an upgrade over Mike Patterson and could start if necessary.
*Spikes is someone I would sign if they decided to make Beason a cap casualty. He would help our Run Defense out.
Virgil Green is a good blocker. Donnell and Green is a good TE combination. We don't need a superstar TE. Donnell's production was incredible this year. He has to work on his ball security in the green zone.
dallas also has 2 OT, parnell/free & a 26yr old (giants preferred free agent age) guard in ronald leary who had to have something to do with dallas' great run game.
philly has a safety in nate allen.
from NJ.com. Really big on re-signing Rolle & Williams. ? I will say that the -4 for #57 was quite an improvement over my snapshot appraisal, which is -20. Will Hill: Goodness what a terrible shame to lose that guy.
is rated higher than Julius Thomas, and he's our back up TE. What am I missing?
That PFF is not very much subjective.
Looking at those FA offensive tackles makes it imperative the Giants get an OT who can play either side early
Beatty is 30 next year. Thinking he has more than a year or two left is Optomistic. Guy can't run block now and needs help from the TE. Pugh took a step back. No idea why some people keep penciling him in as some irreplaceable starter. His two years stating the team can't run block at all.
Bottom line is the new offense is predicated on getting the ball out quickly. It's why the OL was a bit better this year.
There isn't another tackle on the team who looks even NFL back up level unless you want to include Schwartz there.
It doesn't have to be rd 1 but Reese through draft misses and passing on OL early still has one of the worst units in the whole NFL. That's after a 1st and 2nd rd picks and Schwartz in the last 2 years
Adding a FA G is a good idea but T is far from set.
Look at this pile of shit we had on our team this year
...is whether he will be classified as a linebacker or a defensive end for franchise-tag purposes. Either way, he's not going anywhere. But you're right: that overall grade is gasp-inducing. How does it compare to J.J. Watt?
Mike Adams (S, Indy) was one of the all-time great stopgap veteran signings: A one-year deal that even qualified for cap relief. And not locking him up long-term made sense too, because of his age.
Getting his replacement on the roster this year is a top priority even if the replacement sits, learns, and works in the weight room for a season.
Beatty isn't a good run blocker and can't handle top level pass rushers. He's part of the problem, not part of the solution.
And they have to come up with a pair of starting Guards and a pair of starting Safties on top of that, and get all that done before dealing with the many other obvious needs.
Jermey Parnell's resume reminds me of Geoff Schwartz.
He has been starting in Houston for three years. If moving Pugh inside (and/or eventually to LT) is a real option, Newton could make sense, since he's a pure RT.
Left tackle Will Beatty - Beatty was a primary culprit for the offensive line's struggles last season and a huge disappointment after receiving a five-year contract from the team in the offseason. His 13 sacks allowed in 2013 were more than any other offensive tackle, but he rebounded nicely in pass protection, allowing only three sacks, and was steady as a run blocker as well. Beatty also held his own against some very good pass rushing teams from the Cardinals to the Seahawks to the Rams. Like any lineman over the course of a 16-game season, Beatty had moments where he looked overmatched, but the Giants have to feel good that Beatty's 2013 was an aberration and that they have arguably the most important position on the offensive line taken care of for the foreseeable future.
I know he is a leader on the field, but the quality of his play has fallen off dramatically. Additionally, his tendency to mouth off prior to games and trash talk is not my idea of leadership. If anything it contributes to the lack of discipline that seems to have taken over Coughlin's team in recent years.
Two safeties that could perhaps be plucked from the bargain bin
Interest me, I liked both coming out of college and they were both drafted in middle rounds. One is Chris Conte x Cal, who made the NFL all rookie team as a starting FS with the Chicago Bears. The other is Larry Asante who's kicked around a few NFL clubs. He caught my eye as a team mate of Prince Amukamara at Nebraska.

Still, he's an East Coast guy, born in CT, went to Temple - so maybe that will help.
But, there's the baggage issue...

One entertaining aspect of signing him would be counting the number of BBI posts referring to him by some variation on "Jeremy Parcells"

trust in who?.....unreal he gets a pass
