Per Orlando Scandrick - Odell Beckum Jr talks the most trash

He also is best at backing up trash talk.

After everything that happened in the Rams game, it was awesome to see him beat them deep

OBJ needs to clean up the taunting that draw flags.

It ain't bragging if you can back it up
Greg from LI : 1/8/2015 2:45 pm : link
And OBJ backs up every damned word. Goddamn, if we can only have an average OL and defense we could rip shit up.
.
arcarsenal : 1/8/2015 2:47 pm : link
I love everything about Odell's game. He gets guys so fired up to stop him and they just can't do it. It drives them crazy.
I like OBJ's passion
deadkurtrulz : 1/8/2015 2:48 pm : link
but I now believe he needs to tone it down. The Eagles game made it clear to me the refs are letting DB's manhandle him because of his big mouth. That hurts the entire team. Better to let his play do the talking and the refs will start throwing flags again.
LOL what BS, even Cowboy fans were LOLing
Mason : 1/8/2015 2:50 pm : link
He faced him one game and Carr was on Beckham for most of the game. Scandrick from what I recall went out of his way to get in Beckham's face after each of his receptions that were on him. Francesa may be right that his play hurts their feelings enough and his words after the fact cuts even deeper.
The Rams game
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/8/2015 2:50 pm : link
Is one of my favorite Giants receiver performances ever. Plax, Nicks, Cruz, and Tommer all had some classic games. But there was just something special about that Rams game. Their one goal was to take him out and he goes out and embarrasses them.
Doesn't bother me any
moespree : 1/8/2015 2:52 pm : link
And I don't think he needs to or should tone down anything. If they don't like the trash talking then stop him. But they can't stop him. So tough luck for them.
Not surprising. He clearly rubs teams the wrong way.
BeerFridge : 1/8/2015 2:52 pm : link
I suspect he'll mature out of that at least a little.

Provocation without consequences. I want to talk trash to you to put you in your place but you can't talk back to me because I will get offended . And for goodness sake don't make me look bad while doing it.
He seems more Dez than DeSean
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/8/2015 2:59 pm : link
DeSean was just a clown. A fake wannabe crip clown. Dez and Beckham are just crazy competitors. But Dez takes it way too far sometimes yelling at coaches and teammates. Witten nearly kicked Dezs ass on the sideline a few years back. Beckham seems smarter than Dez and I don't think hell ever cross the line like Dez does often.
Dez borders on mentally unstable
Greg from LI : 1/8/2015 3:00 pm : link
OBJ reminds me more of TO. It's all calculating, trying to get into the opponent's head.

Hate to agree with Il Papa, but I think the issue is that he renders professional secondaries helpless. Saying anything afterwards is devastating because it cant be dismissed as FredEx 2.0 running his mouth. OBJ dominates you and tells you he's doing it.

There should also be a volume weighting. If OBJ has 8 catches and 2 PIs drawn, that's 10 opportunities to trash. 3 catch WRs just cant match that opportunity. So just like OPS is more important than raw #s like hits, RBIs etc, there needs to be some sort of shit-talking batting average.
I am glad
AnishPatel : 1/8/2015 3:04 pm : link
I like a player who can bring swagger. I like Rolle because he brings that, I was happy when we signed him.

I miss that about Shockey. Shockey used to always jaw with players too. I like that, good, bring that fiery nature to the team.

If you can back it up, talk as much shit as you want.
This really should not be a surprise to anyone who watches the games
shepherdsam : 1/8/2015 3:05 pm : link
or who reads the post-game pressers. OBJ has been pretty open about the fact that he likes to play mind games with the opposition.

His fiery personality is great when it is getting his opponent riled
Mike from Ohio : 1/8/2015 3:28 pm : link
It's not fine when he is picking up personal fouls. I'd rather not see him provoke a team like the Rams into cheap shotting him to shut him up. They pick up a penalty/fine/suspension, and we play without him for a while. That doesn't help.

He is talented enough that he doesn't need to try and play mind games with DBs. Just beat them early and often.
I get Terps' point.
Riggies : 1/8/2015 3:31 pm : link
What makes a douchebag or dickhead for another team is just fire and excitement for a Giant player. A player on Dallas or Washington behaves the way Beckham does or Shockey did and it's unacceptable, a sign of a looming head case or whatever, while "we" just see it as intensity and even fun so long as they're in blue (and performing well).

Most fans are hypocrites or bias-blind though. It's not NYG specific nor is it surprising.

Maybe not but I'd say it's quite relevant do the discussion.

He's not some one trick pony running his mouth on AND off the field, he doesn't quit during games and he doesn't have gang affiliations (or wannabe gang affiliations). I don't think there's really anything to compare.

It's basically called being a fan. You love your own and hate your opponent. Let's not turn this into psychology class.

I think everyone here hates Dez but realizes at the end of the day what a tremendously talented player he is.

Jackson is much different. He's nowhere near as good as either player.

You saw how the Rams targeted him, hitting him well after the whistle. Some of it was due to his being really freaking good, but I would bet a lot of it had to do with his running his mouth. Football ain't hoops, and losing Beckham would be a major blow. Not worth it, IMO.

I'm not a fan of trash talking, but there have been a lot of nice guys on this team the last few years so if trash talking can bring a little attitude to the team, I am fine with it.
the problem with the trash talking is that someone
chris r : 1/8/2015 3:49 pm : link
is going to want to Dunta Robinson him. And unlike Jackson, who is loath to go over the middle, Beckham is fearless.

Football is a sport where the opposition can make you pay for pissing them off too much. Especially a 5'11", 190 lb WR.
Jackson doesn't go over the middle
mattlawson : 1/8/2015 3:53 pm : link
Because DBs launch into his head. Likely because they know he's a paper tiger that loves to talk trash. It's interconnected.

The late, cheap hits
TMS : 1/8/2015 3:55 pm : link
could end his career early if he keeps it up. A lot of those DBs and LBs would love to take him out and shut him up. Where does that leave him and us. This is a no brainer to me.

Jacobs went to far at times as well and it was annoying, but he's still one of my favorites.

I don't mind it, as long as he stays within the rules and doesn't cost his team penalty yards (for the most part).

Umm... yeah, I guess that's why Fisher's Titans targeted Diehl and McKenzie for their constant trash talking as well. Yeah, I wouldn't use a Fisher coach team to find reasoning for a player to be targeted. LOL, the Rams hit Peyton Manning late and the dirty hit on Sanders were because of their trash talking ways.

Emmanuel Sanders is actually pretty demonstrative on the field too. But yeah, when you're dealing with a Jeff Fisher team it doesn't really matter.

talking some bullshit during the game is par for the course and a hell of a lot of fun. It's never personal 95% of the time and is done with a handshake by games end. Usually.

With Beckhams ability and play on the field there it absolutely nothing to see here. He'll most likely calm down a bit next year but he's still going to yap.

Celebrating yourself and your accomplishments is not trash talking. I was going to post something about people not recognizing the difference. Brady celebrates his throws and TDs, I'm still waiting for someone to label him a trash talker though. JJ Watt telling the media that the Giants have no one on that OL that can stop him is trash talking.

What seems to be bothering some is that this guy is doing it in his rookie season and doing it in style that probably shouldn't come so easy.

I loved shockey for much of the same behavior that beckham displayed this season. Shockey kind of ruined that whole thing for me because his act did eventually wear thin. Didn't help that he couldn't stay healthy either...

I just hope beckham has a long and healthy and drama free career here with the giants. Seems every time I get excited about a young NYG player something inevitably goes wrong. We haven't had the best luck lately...
I honestly think this is a bit of a stereotype of the position
BSIMatt : 1/8/2015 8:20 pm : link
Strahan and JPP and Antonion Pierce were/are fiery and celebrate(d) all the time and also played extraordinarily hard. Beckham is making exceptional plays and doing a very brief celebration afterwards...that's about it.

I like players that play with fire and emotion, I don't see that as being a diva. If he broke out a pen, or started doing Ohco Cinco crap that'd be different...he's extraordinarily passionate..that's a good thing. I understand some people not liking the celebration dances, it's no different from Cruz doing the salsa or Hakeem doing the diry bird against the falcons in the playoffs, or some of the stuff that Jacobs did. I never saw Nicks, Cruz or Jacobs as divas...just intense competitors.
