I think Walton is back only if he takes a drastic cut in salary to near vet minimum. Otherwise he's cut. And if he comes back, he's a sub.
He was pretty bad last year.
until either after FA or the draft. If we are able to obtain a quality guard then I think you would hear it just like we didn't hear Kiwi moving to LB until after the draft when everybody thought we were going to draft a LB.
If they plan on Richburg at C, Walton could be cut, and a backup could be signed at vet min....or maybe they decide to keep Walton for insurance, but it will be costly....
I think we have Beatty-FA-Walton-Schwartz-Pugh or Beatty-Pugh-Richburg-Schwartz-FA.....
was awful and Richburg struggled at guard I expect this to happen, but like Robbie said, won't know for sure until after FA and the draft.
If I had to guess I'd say yes, otherwise it's kind of a waste of a 2nd round pick unless Richburg can improve dramatically at guard (and to be fair he was a rookie playing a new position so improvement is certainly possible)
cutting Walton saves 2.5M on the cap, even with a higher than expected cap, that's too much to just wait until the end of camp, and then possibly cut Walton.
I think they'll make up their mind before camp, possibly even early in free agency.
but the line appeared to gel at the end, so they could always go with Walton at Center and Richburg at Guard for another season. Probably does not happen but it is a nice option to have.

Completely agree. At this point, Walton is insurance in case they can't sign or draft a starting guard and are forced to keep Richburg there.
gets another year at C with the staff POSSIBLY feeling he shook off the two year rust and should be good to go next season..Not saying that's what will happen because I don't know WHAT they're thinking or how JW graded out with THEIR system of doing so..
I suppose FA and the draft will determine things, but "knowing" the tendencies of this staff, JW does indeed get 2015 with Richburg manning the G position
Both Richburg and Pugh will always be disadvantaged
by being small for the position if they stay where they are. Athletically, they are not so well-endowed as to compensate for major physical disadvantages.
Heck give them the best opportunity to succeed. We might actually win some games.
There is no reason to consider Pugh locked at RT. He may be adequate, but he has certainly not been a revelation. He would have a superior skill set for LG however. And it is not like we do not have a major hole at that position.
Hopefully it is a joke that Walton may block Richburg's path to starting C.
Is listed at 298, he will need to add 10-12 lbs to win the battle inside at OC. If he is moved to center then it's just like his rookie year all over again but I think most believe he is a center not an OG.
Thats what he was drafted for. Walton can be the backup C and guard as well. The sooner we get Richburg into that spot working with rest of the Ol and ELi the better. He is a middle of the road G but might an an all pro C.
I've said on several occasions that Pugh is too small to play RT
but agile enough to play LG and pull on running plays. I also don't think Richburg is too small to play center, but it's possible that the coaching staff disagrees. If so, he should be moved to RG. To make the running game go, the Giants need to add a RT in the mold of McKenzie in addition to a TE who can block.
if they just cut Beatty, can't they designate him a June 1 and split the unamortized money over two years?
Yeah they can cut him as a post June 1 cut and it would be better. And of course I don't know this, but I think the Giants feel like Beatty is "good enough" and probably aren't looking to get a LT in FA or 1st round. I could be wrong.
and I think he would have been the C had Snee not retired. Like all rookies, his offseason weight program should really help.
I think the Giants knew Snee was retiring. He signed a million dollar contract in return for not getting an injury settlement, which actually would have cost the Ginats more.
It was a nice move by Snee, sacrificing a few dollars to help the team. But I think all parties knew he was very likely not going to be healthy enough. Chris probably just wanted to give it one more shot so he would not be left with any "what ifs"

That's exactly what I would do if I were the GM. He is good enough to back up, no more.
As for Pugh, I would say that he stays at RT.
OL is a major issue and I expect a starting caliber left guard and competent backups to be signed.
Beatty, ?, Richburg, Schwartz and Pugh.

If he can put on 15+ pounds of muscle I think he could handle it and this level.
Like others have said, kept Walton as the backup.
I think he's the LT next year barring injury
