Giants 17 - Washington 0 in the NFC Championship Game.
This was the Giants most significant victory since defeating the Bears in the 1956 NFL Championship Game. Most people felt going in this was a meeting between the league's two best teams and the winner would take Super Bowl XXI almost as an afterthought. The Giants defense was at their best, as they held George Rogers to 15 rushing yards on 9 attempts and Gary Clark had 0 receptions (although he dropped a couple of deep balls that could've altered the complexion of the game.)

Had the special feeling all week long, and I knew in my heart we would not lose to Elway and the Broncos.
Waited a long time for this. Unfortunately for me I didn't get my tix till 1987 so I did not attend this great game, wish I had, probably would have wept myself.
Agreed..it is a memory I will never forget..being there with my Dad and brothers, everybody on their feet screaming for 30 minutes at least after game ended..how was it possible the Giants were going to the SB..?
We rented an RV that day...afterwards we partied in that thing with it rocking back and forth in the wind till past midnight..watched the AFC championship to see who we were playing..next thing I know we looked out and were last vehicle in parking lot..so grateful could experience with my Dad who I lost in 2004..
Man, that was a long time ago. I Forgot what some of these people looked like "young" especially Gifford. No wonder he was getting some on the side - women must have been throwing themselves at him well into his 50s. Seeing The late Pat Summerall in his heyday is cool and the updates from the Cleveland Denver game brings you back
It was amazing to watch the experience on the field and in the stadium. I'll never forget it.
Chokes me up every time. I feel like a lot of Fathers and Sons felt that way, including me and my Dad.
In a way, 28 years ago two stars were born - Parcells and Belichick.
I was at the Washington game and I recall had cold and windy it was.I remember buy two knishes and putting them in my coat pockets and I used them as hand warmers. The only other game at the Meadowlands I recall colder then the championship game was against the Eagles in the late 80's. It was freezing and it was the game when Cunningham punted the ball over Megget's head and we lost. I went home numb and depressed.
The game was bitter cold and I realized afterwards for the first time that Dad wasn't a young man anymore. I am so blessed he gave me this gift of being a Giants fan. We saw our first game together in '73 in Yankees stadium, and watched them lose for over most of the next decade, so it was sweet to finally make it to the SB.
I got his season tickets when he died in '03. What was section 320 Row 13 seats 20-24 is now Section 324 Row 16 seats 10-14. For the privilege of helping finance the new stadium they moved me back a few rows!
I wasn't sure I would acquire his tix as they were in someone else's name at that time, but the ticket office worked me through it. Still have the form letter from Wellington Mara announcing the new coach in '04 framed....it brought tears to my eyes when I read the first line "Dear Giants Seasons Ticket Holder".
Thanks for reminding me!

Congrats fort hill mike..when are you due?
He died shortly before the 1990 SB and I remember thinking afterwards that at least he got to see the Giants win it in 86. He loved LT and Simms. He would always say a lion could be charging Simms and he wouldn't flinch.
Then I remember coming on BBI a couple of hours after the Giants beat the Patriots to end the perfect season on the night of Feb 3, 2008. There was a thread titled "Happy but also a little sad." I clicked on, and it was a post about how winning was great but the OP was also sad because it made him think of his dad and how happy his dad would have been to see the Giants win if he had still been alive. Somebody asked him when his dad had died. The OP responded, "1978." It was almost thirty years later and the thing he thought about when the Giants won was his dad.
It really is a gift to have shared the love of the Giants with your father.
Thanks for the reminder.
Still the best thing I ever did. Two great sons came out of that 20 year union. All thanks to the New York Football Giants.

Great post oi. The first thing I thought of when seeing this thread was memories of watching with my Dad, who's not with us any more either.
I also remember several of my Dads friends calling him to congratulate him after we beat the Broncos, bc they knew he'd been a loyal Giants fan since the 40s
