I have a couple concerns going in to tonight's game:
1. Trap game for us.
2. We're playing the team with the dirtiest captain in the Metro division. This spearing sleazebag is probably going to hunt after the superior team.
Eat shit, arc. 7:00 start.

Mid June.
I'm guessing you haven't watched many Ranger games.
I do think in years past the Rangers knew a gritty game was going to be played against the lowly Islanders. Today its skill on skill. The talent is there. The Islanders are on par with talent on their team. Its all about doing your job. Executing and playing a full 60 minutes.
That's a lot of stupid for one post. Nice work!
Smith said “we came into their territory and let’s face it, it’s still their territory and it will never change.”
He said that when the Islanders won their first Stanley Cup, the Rangers were still on the front page of the paper and “they had been out almost a month and a half.” (Sports Talk NY)
Mike Vaccaro wrote in the NY Post that if NY didn’t turn for the Islanders in the early 80s it never will. (NY Post)

Im surprised there havent been too many hashtags and talking about fucking up the ass yet from the rangers fans
Weeee! Let's win the skills competition! 2 points! Too bad there's no "fastest skater" or "hardest shot" or "passing competition" for the Isles to really show their stuff!

Ranger fans are funny. Does that help pass the time while you enjoy your long and storied history of suck with occasional fits of mediocrity?
Amazing how this thread bothered so many Ranger fans when it was obvoiusly tongue in cheek being that it was only a few games into the season. Good news is that the title is still true and we're past the halfway mark.
BX and Greg (with the Goodfellas gif) - well played, gentlemen.
It feels familar. I'll let you in on a phone conversation with an Islander fan from May 2014. The Rangers were wrapping up Game 4 with Pittsburgh and I get a call, and I hear - "We" (<- apparantly my buddyis employed by the Islanders". We gave Pittsbugh a much harder time in the playoffs (referring to the 2013 series). At least the Islanders have heart.
The Rangers have zero heart. We just "buy our players" (which in a league with a salary cap is tough to do, at least I think).

Play boring hockey for 60 minutes and hope for a tie and the extra point. Its garbage time hockey, folks. Small time ham n egger stuff for a second rate franchise.

You guys make it so easy.

No, I am just jealous that the Rangers do not have the history of success the Islanders do. That is why I can't wait until 2026 (if I am still alive) because if we end up one point better than the Islanders, I am going to give you guys a piece of my mind!
Oh I got one more. "There were a lot of passengers tonight". You hear this when guys decide to coast and not play 60.

Just a reminder that 1983 was 32 years ago, and it's been 22 years since the Islanders won a playoff series.
Tweak Rangers fans if you must, but Islanders fans are keeping themselves warm with memories of a era that took place before most people had VCRs and cable television.

You are spot on. The Isles have been a joke for 20 years. For the most part, Isles fans aren't acting thumping out chests. We are concerned that our team hasn't played all that great the last few weeks.
What I find funny, is that Ranger fans look at their franchise as if they are the Bruins, Hawks, Kings etc.... when in reality, you have 1 cup since 1940. Getting to the ECF-SCF is great, but as you recall with Jets fans, it is comical bragging about final appearances without winning it all.

This would be a great post!!!!
If it was factual.
I don't know, but I have to say - sucks that it's on a Tuesday, when I could be watching The A-Team and Remington Steele.

So, you don't seem to like it when Rangers fans offer their assessment of you, but have no problem telling us all how we look at our team?
Trust me, we're all keenly aware of our Stanley Cup history. There are plenty of fans in the NHL who have a lot of reasons to look down on the Rangers, but fans of a team that has been completely irrelevant for two decades aren't among them.

Now you have gone too far. So what I still own a VHS in order to cuddle up with and get the warm and fuzzies of my youth. Is that so wrong? And for good measure, I also have my undersized Clark Gillies jersey, Al Arbour glasses and Bill Torrey bow tie ready to roll tonight.
Let's go Islanders!
Or that the Ranger fans are thumping their chests.

I have no problem with you commenting on our team. Isles fans shouldn't be talking any trash to the Rangers. Isles have been the laughingstock of the league for 20 years. We have no right to look down on the Rangers. That being said, the Rangers aren't the Yankees, Canadians, Kings, Bruins, Hawks or even Big Blue etc... in terms of status and success....any I find that more often than not, Rangers fans view their franchise in that light.
In any event, hope tonight is a good one. Wouldn't be the worst thing if both teams got a point.
There is no level of arrogance that can match the floppers and their fan base north of the border.
Will you consider switching teams again if we win tonight?

You did screw up your facts, rangers fans think they are the Canadiens
Or that the Ranger fans are thumping their chests.
O please. Rangers fans over at HFBoards and in the real world always cry about how they get no respect for going to the SCF. Jets fans made the same complaints when they went to back-to-back AFC Championship games.....hence the comparison.
Enough of this nonsense. Let's have a good clean game tonight.
You all are in for a valuable lesson tonight.

To be fair, HF is full of complete fucking morons.

Now that is a true statement! Whoever said the Rangers were anything other than...well the Rangers. I'll steal a quote from an Eric Lindros (pre Ranger) documentary. Why does he have to be the "next Gretzky", why can't he be the "first Lindros".
Anyway, I for one NEVER saw the Rangers as anything other than what they are.
You are what your record is so if I dont get a chance to tonight, congratulations. The Islanders should easily handle the mediocre Rangers.
You all are in for a valuable lesson tonight.
Depends on whether the game is decided by the hockey equivalent of H-O-R-S-E or not.
Actually, the Rangers historically are a lot like the Hawks/Bruins. Hawks have 5 Cups, Bruins 6. Largely pedestrian to mediocre franchises that are a lot better now.
I am actually disappointed in Mike from Long Beach because we had a fairly amicable Islander-Ranger debate. I guess the pending clinching tonight brought out his humility.
Congrats Rangers fans

You had to go on a record-setting run just get a whiff of the Islanders' farts in the standings. But tonight it's time for your reality check. The landscape of the Metropolitan division has changed, and for you guys, not for the better.

It is also fair to say the Rangers have been a joke for the past 75 years. I'm not sure why Ranger fans believe they have some long history of success. They have a long history of showing up and playing hockey
Thanks for playing deej. Way to collapse the whole isles rags thing. Go get pumped up for rags vs caps. Oh and when they drop the puck tonight let me know if your more pumped up than usual when a nasty hit it made or goal is scored.
It's not my fault that the Isles have been perhaps the most irrelevant hockey team over the last 25 years. The Islanders futility collapsed the whole isles rangers thing, not my post at 8:52am on January 13, 2015.
On field rivalries dont exist based on mere geography. The Knicks and Nets never developed that rivalry -- Knicks fans have WAY stronger feelings towards Boston, Chicago, Miami, and the Pacers (and more!). I guess there is a big brother-little brother thing, so the Isles probably still look at the Rangers as a rival. Also, since they've sucked for so long they havent developed other rivalries in the mean time. I guess there has been a super-sad revival of the Isles-Oils rivalry, as the Oilers have been just dominating you guys in the draft lottery recently. Not really shades of 82-84.
But I'll give the obligatory suck it, Fish if it makes you feel better.
You all know it's coming, you've all known it's coming. Just get your screenshots of the "1st place Islanders" in while you can.
