NFT: NOLA food recs

Bill L : 1/20/2015 4:24 pm
I know that we have these threads every few months, but I never wrote anything down. Going to be in New Orleans for a few days beginning this weekend. I have my own list of places to eat but I sure would like to see what some favorites of others are. Going to miss one day of eating I guess because the missus is running in a marathon and the day before she wants blandish, pasta-like food. Seems a shame in New Orleans...but the rest of the time will be trying to go go places we've never been before. I still have to go to Mother's and probably Willa Mae's Scotch House because we always do. Other than that..favorites or places nobody knows but are really good?
Please

go to Cochon, one of the best meals I have ever had. K-Paul's has a LOT of BBI love and while I didn't get a chance to go many say the Commander's Palace is amongst the best restaurants in the country.
K-Paul's without a doubt.

is my favorite place there. The Joint is very good as well. In the French Quarter I like Mr. B's Bistro, Royal House, and the Original Pierre Masperro's.

I also like Lüke. Acme and Royal both are good. Pelican Club. K Paul's. Commanders Palace. Lots of great places. Don't just stay in the quarter but use common sense outside it.
Go to "Mother's"
EricJ : 1/20/2015 8:22 pm : link
for lunch. This is cafeteria style. You walk up to their counter and you can see all of the food. Just tell them what to pile on your place. Awesome...

The Court has gone downhill a bit in the last few years. Still a beautiful place to go for brunch though.

You can make a reservation if you have a small enough party. Try for Cochon.
All of John Besh's restaurants are good

Luke, Domenica, Restaurant August. I agree with Jaqueimo's. Also, Clancy's is a great locals spot, try the scallops.
Yeah, I've heard that about Court of Two Sisters too

Which is a shame, because the brunch was tremendous when my wife and I used to go to NO regularly 7-8 years ago or so.

still think about the meal I had at Cochon to this day. Pretty impressive since the actual restaurant (while nice) isn't especially memorable ambiance wise. Given the amount of great food choices in New Orleans, why isn't everyone 400 pounds that live there! lol We actually did both a food and cocktail tour while there, both were well worth it.
a lot of the old famous places in the Quarter have gone downhill
Greg from LI : 1/21/2015 9:29 am : link
I remember taking my wife (when she was just my girlfriend) to Antoine's in 2002 and it was simply amazing. We went back in 2007 or so, and we simply couldn't believe it was the same place. The service was awful in comparison and the food was disappointing.
