NGT: Fewell will interview with SF to possibly coach DB's

Defenderdawg : 1/22/2015 7:46 pm
Secondary: Perry Fewell, who has been the Giants defensive coordinator for the past six seasons, will interview with the 49ers, NBC4 reports. Fewell coached defensive backs for eight years and could be a fit at this spot. It’s also possible that Ejiro Evero, a former UC Davis safety who has been a lower-level assistant in recent years, will be an assistant secondary coach for the upcoming season.

The guy has a Super Bowl ring because his defense played lights out against some of the best offenses in football.

It was time for a change and the defense clearly underperformed far too often while he was here but give me a fucking break.

Personally, I'd like to see him get hired somewhere else and wish him the best.
Of all the positions to coach...DB's?

Why is that surprising? That's his specialty.

Yeah, you know, the position he coached before he became a defensive coordinator?

So if the defense underperformed too much doesn't that imply that he was bad which is the same as saying he was in over his head?

Spare me your garbage. Please. The guy proved he was a capable NFL DC. You don't keep the same job for 5 years and have a ring on your finger if you don't know what you're doing.

He ran his course here and it was time for a change. Dumping on him on his way out is really unnecessary but unfortunately the mouthbreathers will always need to take their shots.

Good luck to him

Think he is a great hire for that spot. Wish he stayed here and did it. Great communicator and team guy who relates very well to the players. Too many problems for him to handle here with the fall off in our talent the last few years.
Hope he lands the job

In five years,
idol-mind : 1/22/2015 11:13 pm : link
Fewell had two top 10 defenses and a Super Bowl run in which his defense kept the 15-1 Packers to 20 points (should have been 6 if not for terrible officiating) and the Patriots to 17.

He's not the greatest, and he did need to go, but he was far from a bad coordinator.
Best of luck to coach Fewell

Hope he succeeds as a DC again elsewhere

Fewell was in over his head??? I guess he was in over his head when we won the Super Bowl with him as DC.

The main problem with Fewell was scheme IMO. Fewell is a Tampa 2 coach. He prefers playing a zone defense. The players we had were better suited for a man to man defense. It wasn't all his fault.
Fewell's defenses stunk. He got a ring because for 6 glorious

weeks nobody could block Tuck, Osi, JPP, or Strahan. Once Tuck decided to play they were unstoppable.

Strahan?? LOL.
.
arcarsenal : 1/23/2015 10:31 am : link
Fewell never had Strahan.

He's gone, it's okay to stop complaining about him now and just wish him luck in the future like an adult.
I don't get the need for venom. He's gone. He didn't take your wife

or girlfriend.
He helped win a SB ring
jcn56 : 1/23/2015 10:41 am : link
I could understand if he came here and it was an abject failure, but we won a championship. Really can't understand the need to tear guys down after they've run their course.

OOPS!! :-) Sorry, that should have said Canty. Got my glorious runs mixed up for a minute. :-)
Fewell was a good DC for us.
FStubbs : 1/23/2015 8:16 pm : link
We won a Superbowl with him. He will always be remembered well in Giants lore.

But he had without a doubt run his course here and we should wish him the best - except for when his teams play ours.
My 7:57 was just an attempt at a little humor
Blue21 : 1/23/2015 8:45 pm : link
seeing how screwed up our DB's were too often with miscommunication. Yes he was a DB coach before, I know. Just found it ironic that he's interviewing for that job now. I wish him the best.
