Jerrell Jernigan and Jayron Hosely

ChemDawg1990 : 1/22/2015 11:48 pm
Do either of these guys somehow survive another camp and make the 53 next year?

I like Jernigan and thought his injury was weird and shady.

Hosely looked good his rookie camp and I was high on him but he's been high since and has sucked.

What say you about these quick smurfs?
maybe Jernigan
spike : 1/22/2015 11:49 pm : link
because of the Cruz question marks.

Hosely is DONE as a Giant
JJ is a UFA
dancing blue bear : 1/23/2015 12:05 am : link
i believe. not sure but if he is resigned, i expect he would have a good chance to make the roster.

Hosley... i think gets no special treatment. he comes in and makes it or gets cut strictly on merit. sounds crazy that this is not the norm. last year i would have been interested to see what would have happened had he not been suspended to start the season. after his 4 weeks, the injuries had already begun to ravage the CBs.

MyBoyBlue : 1/23/2015 12:09 am : link
JJ might be a good insurance policy.

Hosley is a goner. Healthy scratches at the end of the year. But you never know. Maybe he sticks for cheap. And Spags can turn him into a decent cb
I expect JJ back, Cruz's football career to me is still in doubt
Mason : 1/23/2015 12:17 am : link
With Spags' return, I am curious what he think of Hosley. Was ready to jettison Webster and Spags picked him off the curb where Lewis left him. Only problem with Hosley coming out he was suppose to excel at zone defense but struggled with Fewell's zone. His first preseason games matched up to his bio but that quickly vanished. Seeing how Giunta isn't here anymore may be an indicator that he wasn't getting coached up much either.
They should dump them both, but they won't.
Red Dog : 1/23/2015 12:24 am : link
They'll both be in summer camp.
I'd more than cut Hosely
WeatherMan : 1/23/2015 12:30 am : link
I'd let the resident VaTech haters visit the stadium and inform him of his release in person. He's the football equivalent of a pile of garbage on fire.
Jernigan
Dragon : 1/23/2015 12:32 am : link
I don't see a role for him in our offense with Eli it's just not a good match of individual talents. Eli has great difficulty with small receivers and Jernigan can't stay on the field long enough to develop any kind of consistency with Eli.

JJ still does not even have an identified role on this team is he a slot or even an outside guy? Can he come into camp while Cruz is not there and perform in the slot from week to week? Where is the speed that he was supposed to provide to this team we have not even seen it on ST? Will having a guy like OBJ on the field with him provide the same spark it did for RR late in the season?

Now we have to consider is JJ a better talent than Parker, Ogletree, Harris & Talley and is he someone other teams will even show any interest in. For the right price you almost have to bring him back since presently we don't have a slot guy there are not many reasons not to bring him back.

Hosley needs to move on I don't know what happened but this player has battle fatigue. We all felt he had talent from his rookie year but since then he has been a disaster on the field consistently. His only chance in this game and the NFL is to find a new home quickly.
Brewer is another one
FranknWeezer : 1/23/2015 1:19 am : link
That we are past due to move on from.
Hosley is atrocious
Anakim : 1/23/2015 1:52 am : link
He should be gone.
Atrocious or not, Hosley like Mosley and
BlueLou : 1/23/2015 4:01 am : link
Adrian Robinson are all draft picks still under their 1st contract; so they will all return at least for TC. JJ's an FA, if he resigns a vet min proove it deal they'll likely re-sign him but prolly not for 10 cents more.
Bad day for the Giants
TMS : 1/23/2015 6:16 am : link
when Reese and Ross visited Va Tech and came back to draft Wilson and Halsey in 2012. The rest of that draft yielded terrible results as well: Adrien Robinson.Mosley, McCants, Kuhn. Only Randle has given us anything since. Hope they enjoyed their trip. Since then it has been all downhill.
Webster was eating some bench and looking like a bust
jcn56 : 1/23/2015 7:06 am : link
until Spags got here, the guy's under contract and we need bodies to start camp, he's not going anywhere until Spags has had a look.
bu bye.....
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 1/23/2015 7:07 am : link
with Harris and Washington JJ in an after thought now.... Holsey just stinks....
Morbid thoughts
RetroJint : 1/23/2015 8:12 am : link
dance in one's head at the very mention of their names. Holsley was sort of added to the list of bums who are suddenly going to improve under Spagnuolo's magic wand. I mean the comment above. The Giants did have professional defensive coaching last year. One of the guys Spagnuolo's team cut ended up starting for Fewell the last month of the season. Consider.
I'd bring JJ back, but he's a UFA I believe so he may want to move on
Andy in Halifax : 1/23/2015 8:25 am : link
He'd be a good option for a backup in the slot. We all hope Cruz returns at 100% but JJ would be decent insurance. I also think the current offense is MUCH better suited to his game than KG's.

Referring, of course, to the professional defensive coaching staff whose defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach were just terminated? The fact that the position coach got the ax should tell you a little something about what Coughlin thought of his work.
I
AcidTest : 1/23/2015 8:29 am : link
think they're both gone. Hosley certainly, but probably JJ as well. Didn't work out with either. Time to move on.
but Coach Mara
HomerJones45 : 1/23/2015 8:32 am : link
Thinks Jernigan should be playing.

It's puzzling that BBI'rs think a small, not particularly fast or elusive receiver is worth giving 75 chances to but climb up one side and down the other of Randle. Jernigan makes Randle look like Jerry Rice.
buh-BYE to both. Both of them stink.
Victor in CT : 1/23/2015 8:40 am : link
Too small, too lacking in every way, two wasted 3rd round picks.

Good one Homer!

Everyone got excited about a meaningless Washington game with missed tackles.....I agree...he is a liability to Eli who throws a high ball...

Hosely is small and he plays small, and he's another one that can't stay on the field...yes, he is under contract, but is he even worth 666K? He'll be invited to camp, and I'm sure he will be cut.....
there is a slot
area junc : 1/23/2015 9:28 am : link
WR in the draft - Justin Hardy (East Carolina) - who looks like a real player. if he lasts until our 3rd round pick i think we jump all over him. fast - and really fights for the football

we have also drafted 2 players from that program recently
here's a highlight video
area junc : 1/23/2015 9:33 am : link
of Justin Hardy for anyone interested:

he's got the all-time record for most collegiate receptions and is an ex-QB w/great work ethic and team-first attitude
Hardy (ECU) - ( New Window )

lmaooo was i the only one that laughed out loud at this response?

man was this funny
I don't care if they bring either/both to camp
Mike from Ohio : 1/23/2015 10:39 am : link
but unless something changes significantly, neither should be on the 53 man roster. JJ had a nice game over a year ago, and that is really it for his career. Unfortunately that is one more nice game than Hosely has ever had.
Neither one of them should be in camp
blueblood : 1/23/2015 10:41 am : link
move on..
Figure both are in camp
JonC : 1/23/2015 10:44 am : link
and both should face a difficult challenge in making the team.
Coaching and Hosley
ij_reilly : 1/23/2015 10:56 am : link
With both Giunta (DB coach) and Fewell gone, this will be interesting to see what happens with Hosley. Will this be Webster redux? His career turned around when Spags arrived.

Hosley has a new DB coach and an new DC. We will know by the end of preseason if he's a true bust.
Neither is getting cut
Curtis in VA : 1/23/2015 10:59 am : link
prior to camp. Being draft picks, they will have an opportunity to compete. May the best man win.

Who knows? The light may go on just in time to save their careers.
Jernigan is a UFA
Andy in Halifax : 1/23/2015 11:34 am : link
We'd have to bring him back (and he'd have to agree). I'd welcome him back - we're only talking as a #5 WR at best.
Hosley is garbage
Greg from LI : 1/23/2015 12:18 pm : link
Comparing him to Webster is a joke.

AGREE, in spades, WM.

And I'd keep Parker over JJ in a heartbeat

sad day, my gosh, disastrous day. Must have been something in the water
Hosley thrived in a press coverage at VT
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/23/2015 12:35 pm : link
and has elite speed. The style of defense that Bud Foster plays is very similar to Spags since they both like attacking defenses. I could see Hosley play better under Spags.

It's not a guarantee, but stranger things have certainly happened.
I can see the Giants wanting JJ back as insurance
Beer Man : 1/23/2015 12:38 pm : link
against Cruz not making it back. But, I assume JJ wants a chance at more playing time. Will he want to come back when he knows if Cruz is healthy, he may not even get a shirt on game day?
The coaching might change things quite a bit.
idol-mind : 1/23/2015 12:40 pm : link
Both have coordinators they haven't played a regular season game under. Both coordinators have shown a knack for getting better performances out of their players.

They're probably long shots to make it, but they might find some new life if they can be coached up.
I agree with whoever said Parker over JJ
ChemDawg1990 : 1/23/2015 1:09 pm : link
I love parkers attitude
Hosely
blue42 : 1/23/2015 1:23 pm : link
is a bad football player. A new coach isn't changing that.
Hosley will probably be in camp
DavidinBMNY : 1/23/2015 2:19 pm : link
Since he's under contract already, but I don't think he'll make the team.

This was said about Webster too in 2006.

CUT THEM BOTH NOW
The options available to Jernigan are going to be limited
Bob in Newburgh : 1/24/2015 10:33 am : link
He probably is going to sign a 1-year make-good contract somewhere.

However, this does give him a certain flexibility as his agent should make a determination of destination based on chances to succeed rather than financial considerations.

While you may be correct that they return under TC, this is the kind of bad decision that has left our roster with little to no talent.

Its bad enough to miss on draft picks, but to continue to provide roster spots year after year to guys that don't get it on the field is salt in the wound...
