Damn right. Finally they stop taking pity on these traitors or wanna be traitors. I am 100% in favor of revoking ANYONE's US citizenship who tries to join a terrorist group. Let her rot for 4 years.
She wanted to become muslim and she never even read the whole Quaran. Dumbass.

She probably should have become a nun.
What's worse is actually her parents' comments:

insisting he didn't know what his son or daughter was up to and little Jimmy/Jenny would never hurt a fly.

Later her parents released a statement online criticizing the U.S. legal system for making an example of their daughter in trying to discourage others from turning to extremism. If "the government is willing to sacrifice the future of a 19-year-old American citizen to drive the point home ... then we feel the terrorists have won this particular battle in the war on terrorism."
And he lost the battle of raising a decent child. What bothers me is that these "lost children" don't even read the religion's most holy book. They go off internet posts and websites.
Agreed but I think we are sending a msg to those considering the same twisted path.

Not sure what's gained by putting her in prison.

It was her aim to join an entity that we understand to be terrorist. Nutter or naif, her actions could have led to the deaths of innocent people, or Western military members. If she had simply attached herself to a street gang and been in the wrong place at the wrong time nobody would think twice about putting her in jail.
How nuts is she though? Did she know it was a questionable and likely illegal decision to join a violent fundamentalist organization renowned for butchery and terrorism? Probably. Plenty of people we send to jail for crime, particularly for violent crime, are crazier than they are evil. Before she is given a ticket to the nuthouse rather than jail some of them should be.
In fairness, her dad is the one who called the FBI.
The judge agreed she needed psychiatric care but still decided to throw her in jail as an example to others anyway?
What you call 'teenager' I call 'adult'. She's over 18, immaturity is not an excuse for treasonous behavior.
You base your diagnosis on what, exactly? So far, she's guilty of abject stupidity, and plenty of people have done time in prison for that offense.
Anyone who joins a criminal or terrorist organization should be imprisoned. The fact that she claims she wasn't out to hurt anyone is laughable, she joined an organization known for chopping people's heads off in graphic manner and putting the videos out for everyone to see. There's no hidden or subtle nature to it, she wanted to join a bunch of animals and she deserves to be locked up to spend some time thinking about her stupid decision.
If she were a 19 year old from the ghetto locked up for joining the Crips or Bloods and vowing to take part in some of their rituals, not only would we have not heard of her, but if we did, nobody would care.
It's time to go after the weak minded who fall for bullshit like this.
"I'm not saying that her decisions were all a product of mental illness. ... But she's a bit of a mess," Moore said.
The judge referenced Conley's psychiatric report that stated "she is not a terrorist."
The judge also alluded to a series of events from 2011 to her arrest in 2014.
"There is a history of events that would make for a bad movie," Moore said.
Conley almost agreed to marry three different people in a matter of months, according to Moore.
The prosecutor said Conley was "pathologically naive."
Added the judge: "She has no history in the criminal justice system. She is very young. ... Teenagers make dumb decisions a lot.'
Obviously, he's trying to CYA what some people might have felt was a light verdict, given that she was essentially conspiring to assist a terrorist organization on US soil. To some people, that's treason, and she deserved a bullet.
Four years sounds just right to me - she can play naive, innocent, etc. all she wants. She didn't join the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, she joined a terrorist organization very publicly known for their violent acts against America. No amount of naivete can excuse that.
Also are you assuming that the judge made up the whole psych thing just so she wouldnt get criticized for the ruling? That sounds like nonsense used to completely erase the psych issue from the story.
She's actuallu getting off easy with the four years sentence as opposed to longer sentence for her male counterparts charged with similar offenses.

Because the judge has no more right to claim she's got psychiatric issues than you or I do, he's got no training as a psychiatrist. And still, he managed to throw in that he didn't believe her actions were the result of mental issues.
The only reason he has to even mention it is to justify the relatively short length of her sentence.
