2 Other Defensive Players Outside of Shelton I Want to Draft

geelabee : 1/24/2015 9:22 pm
My #2 favorite defensive player in this year's draft is Jeff Luc MLB Cincinatti Bear Cats. The guy was measured at the senior bowl at 5 '11-1/2 263lbs.
A former FSU 5 Star Recruit that ended up transferring to Cincinnati after getting lost in the shuffle. He was the #1 ranked MLB player coming out of high school and after bouncing around finally put it all together. The guy has been described as an absolute tackling machine that moves well in space finishing the year with 134 tackles 9.5 tackles for losses and 6.5 sacks. The reports like Shelton is the guy has stood out at the Senior bowl.

Also like Shelton's Teamate Hau'oli Kikaha who was one of the best pass rushers in college football in 2014 finishing with 18 sacks. Lot of chatter this week about these two and think they would really look good in blue this fall. Assuming we make a splash in free agency and the Giants sign one of the following in free agency:

Orlando Franklin
Brian Bulaga
Mike Iapati

Like to see the Giants take in round order:

1) Danny Shelton DT Washington
2) Hau'oli Kikaha DE/OLB Washington
3) Jeff Luc MLB Cincinatti
4) Top Guard or OT prospect remaining

What do you guys think? Please provide any comments on the above players that seem very intriguing...
Wish I knew more about college players

OI usually start going over film after the combine. I was floored by what I saw from Aaron Donald last year even when watching his so-called worse games.

Somehow I never looked at OBJ on film until AFTER he was drafted. Then I was very excited. I just assumed the other 2 WRs Watkins/Evans were a step above a pack of receivers who were very close in talent.

So, if you can get a link to some film highlighting why a guy is special to you, please post it. Thanks
the Giants don't like

short linebackers.
No offense, but I think that's completely unrealistic.

I hope the Giants continue their recent trend of using a premium pick on an O-Lineman, and I'd like to see them use another on a WR.
The last time Giants Drafted the #1 High Schoo LB
geelabee : 1/24/2015 9:44 pm : link
Was Jessie Armstead and that pick worked out well The guy is short like Zach Thomas or Chris Borland but is absolutely jacked..the guy might be short but weighed in at the senior bowl at 263lbs. .if you google the guy he might be the most ripped player coming out in this year draft and is described as a sideline to sideline heat seeking missile..hope the Giants draft this guy...

They also drafted him in the 8th round..
Denzel Perryman

Have seem some chatter on this board for Perryman of Miami who experts are placing in the top 50 prospects. Think Luc is a sleeper and better prospect.
OL will be the priority,

If it isn't, Mara will be looking for a new GM.

LBs are not a priority. It'll be DL, S, and maybe WR even though I think they should swear off drafting WRs for a year so they can fortify the OL and the defense. It's not like the don't have any. They've only got 11 WRs now, plus JJ if they want him back.
I decided this year

that I am not going to get attached to any draft pick..
well

Luc is a football player, and 5'11 isn't that short if he's got a great motor.
Short lbs have better leverage

They've got sixteen O-Linemen now. Numbers don't tell the story - talent does - which is why I hope the Giants go OL and WR (not necessarily in that order) with two of their first three picks.
Luc is a beast

When watching the senior bowl drill where backers covered running backs an tight ends on pass plays. At 263 lbs he never got beat. This man can run and when he hits he arrives with bad intensions. I hate how people go by height etc when all you need to measure is if the guy can play the game. Hope we draft him
tell that to our scouts,

Is this some kind of joke? The GIF you posted wasn't some FSU dude a couple of years ago -- that was me, last week.
Luc vs Perryman
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 1/25/2015 8:37 am : link
I understand the issues with highlight films, but watching the highlights of these two LBs, Perryman is far more impressive. Unbelievable tackling form; runners go backward when he hits them; lots of tackles at or behind the LOS. Not so much for Luc. In addition, no evidence that Luc can play the pass.

prioritization on measureables hasn't exactly worked out so well over the past six years, so the OP raises a valid point, even if very unlikely to transpire in this Giants FO. And I'm with Klaatu in thinking the lines have to be addressed, so I'm not urging drafting Luc that high (and the Armstead precedent is spot on as to draft history--low, low round), but I think the Giants need to be looking at physical and talent impact and toughness across the board rather than height and weight as first criteria. OBJ and his talent, fight, and competitive fire are a start. We won't know about Westburg for another year yet. Bromley another wasted 3rd pick, imo.
Jeff Luc is an excellent player.

I have watched him play since he was 11 in our youth league in Port St. Lucie. Didn't get to draft him onto my team, but I worked with him in camps. He has a great attitude. I don't think he got a fair shot at FSU.
