Michael Crabtree UFA

EliMcAdoo2015 : 1/25/2015 12:56 am
Cheaper alternative to Cobb. Coming off a down year but the talent is there. Could come cheap.

Comes from a West Coast Offense.

Can play both outside and slot. Insurance for Cruz.

Good complement to ODB as a possession/YAC receiver. Strong hands and routes.

Eli Manning would make Crabtree a better player than Alex Smith or Kaepernick ever could.
I'm all in for a 1 year deal

U mad bro?
ODJ, Cruz and Randle

they don't need to add people with serious question marks like Crabtree.
This is the one position on the roster
DavidinBMNY : 1/25/2015 7:32 am : link
Where I feel an experienced season veteran could really help. It is such a young group, I could see a Boldin type player having a big positive impact on and off the field.
Nicks, Manningham, and Cruz were a young group, too.
Klaatu : 1/25/2015 7:47 am : link
And they did okay for us in 2011. Anyway, just say no to Crabtree or any other free agent WR. Our money would be better spent elsewhere. Besides, this is a good year to draft another WR with a premium pick.

Cobb would be lethal and past experience with McAdoo would indicate to me, he would not be wasted in our O..Who would know how to use him better than McAdoo?

There are certain players(assuming they're not toxic) you don't pass up; they can turn an entire O around..Sproles in Philly, gave headaches to DCs who already had to gameplan for the Maclins, McCoys, etc
No thanks, Doc.
Klaatu : 1/25/2015 8:17 am : link
We've got too many holes to fill to spend free agent cash on a WR.
Nope

But thanks for asking.

Another WR taken with a premium pick in the upcoming draft sounds pretty good to me right now (with the caveat that I haven't a clue as to college talent)
No..
blueblood : 1/25/2015 9:02 am : link
Why spend FA money on a WR that is inconsistent.. draft a player and have him on a rookie deal for the next 3-5 years..
Another Tim Carter
mrvax : 1/25/2015 9:18 am : link
Sinorita Moss, or Jernigan would do nicely in the draft.

Or another Odell Beckam Jr..
If they go the veteran route

I would look at Nate Washington on a 1 year deal.

That said, I agree with those saying another pick in the first 3 rounds could make sense. This is another draft deep at WR, and Randle only has 1 year left on his deal.
I think
Doomster : 1/25/2015 10:53 am : link
we have bigger needs than wide receiver....that is way down on my list....
I would like someone
AnishPatel : 1/25/2015 11:03 am : link
with more speed. I like Cobb, but if that price is too much then someone like Torrey Smith or even DHB who was drafted by Oakland. I want to add more speed to this damn offense.

Giants heavy interest in Phillip Dorsett may indicate they are thinking the same way

I had my eye on Devin Smith and will follow his progress or journey as the months unfold.

This is what NFL.com has on PD..

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS Takes the top off the defense and throws it in the trash. Elite explosiveness. Gets to top speed quickly and is a seamless glider on crossing routes, leaving man-to-man defenses in his wake. Can work outside and from the slot. Elevates and attacks contested catches. Outstanding body control and can adjust to the ball in mid-air. Mind-boggling big-play production with half of his catches going for 25-plus yards in 2014. More than just a vertical-only receiver and has the blazing feet and stop-start to beat zone coverage for big plays.

WEAKNESSES Had partial tear of MCL in 2013. Still raw in his routes, relying on pure speed. Inconsistent with his hand placement to catch and lets the ball get on top of him. Small frame and will have to withstand hits over the middle as a slot receiver.

NFL COMPARISON John Brown

BOTTOM LINE Dorsett is an ascending prospect who has averaged more than 25 yards per catch since 2012. He can challenge teams vertically inside or outside and he has home-run potential after the catch as a slot receiver. With smaller wide receivers like T.Y. Hilton and Antonio Brown proving that small and fast can win in the NFL, Dorsett should be coveted by more than one team and has the potential to turn into a star in the NFL.

Quite effusive praise for Dorsett. Like him alot. Another guy that intrigues me is Lockett. He flashed alot in practices and the senior Bowl too.

Smallish frame but tough, fast, quick in and out of breaks, plays bigger and seems to be a very polished and precise route runner.
friend just sent me this cut up on Lockett

Think it might be Boylehart:

Tyler Lockett   WR   Kansans St

TALENT BOARD ROUND 1

STRENGTHS
Tyler is a remarkable athlete with quickness, speed, and almost freakish strength, who loves to play the game of football. He is small, but plays big because he is fearless. He will make any catch, on any down, on any route you ask him to in a game. All you have to do is get the ball to him. His quickness in and out of his breaks is far beyond the best receivers coming out in a draft and on par with most, if not all, pro receivers in the NFL. He shows excellent run after the catch skills and never seems to take a big hit because of his vision and quickness. He is a smart route runner, changes speeds and has more than one gear to go deep. Tyler is addicted to catching the ball once it is in the air. He is an excellent teammate and is as good as former special teams great for the Buffalo Bills Steve Tasker covering punts as a gunner and timing his tackle to the catch. Tyler Lockett is an excellent football player and will impact the day after you draft him for the team that selects him. I call him Tyler (Sure Thing) Lockett.

+1 ha ha ha

Not a Crabtree fan, there are lots of Crabtree's available. I don't think he is any better than Randle.
