NFT: Bringing a leather baseball mitt back to life...

Damon : 1/25/2015 5:23 pm
My kid left his glove in a bucket outside for the last six months.. I just found it (after an extensive search for spring ball) covered in mold... I'm inclined to toss it and buy a new one… But it was brand-new last year and seems like such a waste...

Any sage wisdom from BBI before I throw it out?

www.howtocleanstuff.net. But, once the glove is mold free, keep it oiled. Mold needs moisture to grow. Don't throw it out, it is a waste. good luck :)

it is easy to clean. I had a very expensive Rawlings glove that I let my son take, and the same thing happened. It just requires a little elbow grease.
Was this a $250 glove...

Then salt and crisco. I rescued a classic cast iron pan the same way

Mizuno.
$25 for a leather glove? brand new?

it will only cost a few bucks to clean. simple green and a little water and vinegar. I had a great glove and I thought about tossing it, but I went to that website and was amazed. You'll get a good sense of accomplishment, too. :) good luck

with chlorine or use clorox wipes to wipe it completely down, inside and out.

After it's clean bake it in the over at 300 for 5-10 mins it help dry it out and kill the rest of the fungus.

After it cools down you can oil it up or use glove conditioner. Might have to do condition it twice to get it to where you want it.

I've had to do this before and it worked pretty well. Good luck!

Be careful with beach and mold,

it can cause a reaction that's pretty nasty. We had some stuff stored in a shed that flooded a bit 2 years ago. We used bleach as the main agent to clean it and we ended up having to take my wife to the hospital because of the fumes interacting when the bleach hit the mold. She had respiratory issues for 2 months over it
neatsfoot oil, isn't that the stuff we used to use?
