before games even before "The Catch". So even though a part of it definitely has to do with showing off (especially in the Pro Bowl), he's practicing a real skill that he applies in games.
Is he really the only WR in the NFL who can do this routinely though? It's gotta be a little embarrassing/intimidating for the veteran Pro Bowl WRs who see Beckham easily do something that is beyond their physical capabilities.
This year's Pro Bowl should be called "The Pro Bowl with JJ Watt and Odell Beckham" because that's how it's being hyped so far. NFL really pushing these two guys.
he was obviously good in college but not considered by anyone as the #1 WR. Now, a year later, he's doing all sorts of shit that just makes people scratch their heads.
This seemingly happened over night. I wonder if he really was "hamstrung" for those 1st 4 games. He may have had some top-secret bionic surgery over the summer.

Several teams were extremely high on him last year. It didn't happen over night. Whether you choose to believe them or not, The Giants, Jets and others had him as the top WR in the draft. I remember on draft night, the Jets were rumored to be trying diligently to trade up to get ahead of the Giants to draft OBJ. At the time, I was like, umm, why?

Giants did not have him as the top WR in the draft. Reese said recently he had Watkins as the #1 WR, but Bekcham was #2.
but I remember someone saying they liked him more than Watkins because Beckham could run every route whereas nearly half of Watkins receptions where on WR screens and short passes where he turned into a RB after the catch.
Before the draft, Giants general manager Jerry Reese was taken by Odell Beckham, but it's safe to say even he was a little surprised.
On a radio tour this afternoon, Reese said that Beckham was not the highest rated receiver on the team's board. Beckham was the third receiver taken in the 2014 draft.
"We did not have Beckham ahead of (Sammy) Watkins," Reese said on WFAN 660.
I apologize. I didn't realize that your comment about flag football was of the positive tone and was an endorsement of keeping the players safe! Somehow, I mistook it for you being annoyed that they weren't tackling! My bad!
It still holds true, OBJ was not an over night sensation. He was an extremely talented WR that was highly thought of.
Yep, agree, definitely not an overnight sensation, and a lot of my non-Giants fan friends told me from draft day the Giants got a steal. Hard to stay that when he was picked #12, but you can argue he's the best player in the draft, so yeah 12 might go down as a steal.

I second this and am also finding myself perplexed. It's hard to think of any non QB who got drafted at #12 overall to be out of nowhere or undervalued, but he really was. If everyone knew he was this explosive, how the hell did he fall?
very little interest in this Super Bowl and Deflategate Â

Under 6'0 and ran a 4.43 40 yard dash, which is very good, but the under 6'0 scares teams away. Very few under 6'0 WR get drafted top 10. Guys bigger than OBJ run faster than that all the time. In fact OBJ Measurables were not top 5 in any category at the combine--not the 40 yard dash, or the vertical jump, or broad jump. Only the 20 yard and 60 yard shuttle (which a lot of guys don't run)
His college production was good not great (59 receptions, 1152 yards, and 8 touchdowns). Cooper dwarves those numbers.
And he did end up going top 12. But there's a reason that he was not a no-brainer top 5 pick. And it's just an example of how much desire, intensity, and good route running can make a huge difference in the NFL.
Also--he's great (and this is not a knock), but I believe for sure if he had Kyle Orton throwing to him all year his numbers wouldn't be AS good.
It just dawned on me that a 4500 yard 30 TD year Â

I can remember the debates here last year well. Evans & Watkins were talked about with Watkins as the clear #1 WR choice. Evans was debatable. At the same time, as far as WR's go, Beckham was to everyone just another name among the next 5 WR's.
No one was screaming for the guy like we did with Donald, Martin, etc. Hell, I never bothered to watch his videos until AFTER we drafted him. At that point, I was 100% OK with the pick.
If the draft was re-done today, Beckham would have been the first pick. It's just amazing what he's done to step up his game from "very good" to "almost unbelievable".
Actually, here's what I would love to see from him in an actual game:
Receiving touchdown (nothing special here)
Run one in on a reverse for a rushing touchdown
Punt return touchdown
Kick an extra point or field goal
Throw for a touchdown
Yea it sounds crazy but he's capable of all of the above. Hell put him at safety and get him a pick 6 while we are at it. LOL!

Was it kicked from the 36? So wouldn't you add 10 yds to it for the endzone depth?

No it wasn't. And as if Pat McAfee wouldn't know. He kicked it from the 35 or 36 yard line.

I love those that bitch about this. Would you have a different feeling towards it if OBJ gets taken out and wrecks his knee?
These players have a responsibility to live another day, much more than hitting hard in a freaking all star game.

just change it to flag football.

Who's bitching? I'm just saying that if you aren't gonna tackle someone, change it to flag football. But thanks for you participation.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. But there's no way those balls were properly inflated... ; )
