Latest B/R 1st Round Mock

Emil : 1/25/2015 7:23 pm
- Some movement over last week. Has Mariotta going #1 overall, which I don't think will happen.

- Washington gets a very good player in OLB/DE Randy Gregory from Nebraska.

- Cooper goes to the Raiders

- And La'el Collins goes to Atlanta at #8.

NYG select DE/OLB/DT Dante Fowler, Florida.

I haven't researched him much but he certainly seems like an explosive player. 6'2" 261lbs, who has lined up all over the front 7. Something like 8.5 sacks this year, but three game in the bowl game. Anyone have more insight or been to a Gators games in the last two year?

I like fowlers potential

but he will excel much more as a 3-4 OLB. He doesn't have shawn oakman size and has a tendency to get caught up by bigger OTs. I think its between Landon Collins S, Andrus Peat OT, Vic Beasley OLB, Kevin White WR, and I would project Brandon Scherff as a guard more than an OT but he could be in the mix. I would like a DE at 9 but if its not Randy Gregory I would wait til the second or third.
i would shit

True he doesn't have Oakman's size, but I for one am glad Oakman stayed in school. He looks good in pads, but he is too easily neutralized and is not an impact player. At least Fowler makes an impact, but I do question if he is best suited for a 3-4 or a 4-3.

Is that a good thing?
I would be shocked

If the Falcons use another top ten pick on an OL. That defense is embarrassing, they've spent tons of resources on offense in recent years, including the Julio Jones trade, where they traded the next years 1st rounder.
I worry that Peat, Scherff and Shelton will all be gone when we

pick, and that the best available player will be a WR; I just think taking a WR at 9 is overkill when you can get a really good slot guy like Lockett in Rd. 3.

I also don't see Collins, Clemmings or Flowers as worthy of a pick in the top half of round 1, so that would leave us w/o an OL to select at 9.

I'm very intrigued by Shaq Thompson though, and can imagine what great things he could do in a creative Spags defense. Just not sure we'd pick him at 9, although I would if the three guys I highlighted above are gone and the other chalk players go as expected.
Fowler

Nice pick. But I'll be nuts if all three top OT are off the board by then. If that happens, taking Fowler could be a very good idea.
Fowler

I started a thread on here a few weeks ago asking about Fowler. Somebody wrote that a guy he knows who knows a guy who's close to the situation (or something) says Fowler is a pretty major head case.
trade down if they are

just getting a guard or a 6'2 lb. I'm not a draftnik, but it seems to me the G men could get an extra 2nd to trade down to around 15 and still pick a very good football player.
Fowler looks like a 3-4 OLB
