NGT: Richard Sherman press conf

Cornman33 : 1/25/2015 9:25 pm
Pretty entertaining comment-

"Will they be punished? Probably not," said Sherman with his trademark bluntness on Sunday afternoon, in the Seattle Seahawks’ first media availability of Super Bowl week. "Not as long as (Patriots owner) Robert Kraft and Goodell are still taking pictures (together) at their respective homes. I think he was just at Kraft’s house last week for the AFC Championship. Talk about conflict of interest. You know, as long as that happens, it won’t affect them at all. Nothing will."

Not at this link but he also answered the Q as to whether he's the best corner in the NFL with "I don't answer preschool questions"

He's pretty intelligent. I see nothing in his statements that make him seem like an idiot.

High GPA and national honor society in high school, undergraduate degree with a high GPA at Stanford, currently seeking a Masters at Stanford.

I don't what your definition of "fucking idiot" is, but I have a feeling your definition is wrong.
I fail to see much in the way of a conflict of interest...

Goodell works for the owners so I can see why he may actually be around them from time to time.

fucking idiot in this sense.

He might be smarter than the general public, but that doesn't say much, or impress me at all. half smart people are the most dangerous.

-He is strafing his employers. I don't see how anyone can say that is a smart move. Those are the people that pay him. pretty simple. don't bite the hand that feeds you. and really he does it for self promotion, only. there is nothing insightful revealed. Rich and powerful people have a different set of rules, and they will do whatever they need to do to stay rich and get richer.

-young people rage against authority. Nothing new. When i got older and realized it was futile and counter productive, i reflect on my younger self as a fucking idiot. raging against authority accomplishes nothing but putting a target on your own back. You have to have other clubs in your bag besides eating shit and shitting on the people that sign your checks.

-ex C. classic pseudo intellection drivel:“I think the perception is the reality,” Sherman said. “It is what it is. Their resume speaks for itself. You talk about getting close to the line. . . . I don’t really have a comment about that, but their past is what their past is, their present is what their present is.”

-oh, yeah...it's not even true. I don't think anyone believes that nothing will come of this. something already has. Kraft and the team have been under fire all week. and i firmly believe punishment is coming. whether it is timely or sufficient is a different debate. And also Godell brought the hammer down on Kraft already after spygate. so he is not above punishing Kraft - Who is one of his Bosses, anyway.

But it sounds good, and it grabs some attention, and gets his name out there. so if that is his goal, he's done a good job with that, but it's a little short sighted and not well thought out

Maybe the NFL should turn its focus to the steroid use on the Seahawks. I hear it is the tone in the NFL. Also, ask Russell if he ever scuffs the balls up because you know, that is illegal.

it's nice to see and hear a guy who's not afraid to say things like that about Kraft and Belichick, even if he's over the top sometimes.

I've had enough of this seeming mentality that we're all supposed to kneel down and kiss the feet of Belichik and Brady for being so smart.

We'd love this guy if he was on the Giants.
Always been a big fan of Sherman...

Ahole???What are you basing your assertion on? Is it based on the fact that he is one of the top cover-guys in the NFL, he showed his guts when he remained on the field in the last game while in extreme pain, or is it that he stated reality of the situation in a clear and concise manner?

This reflects your intellect or inflated view of your intellect. I guarantee you know nothing about this guy other than a couple of clips you heard. He is very smart and calculated.

do people here really prefer the Manning brothers school of giving quotes? Practices, contentless garbage?

Sherman say what the players are actually thinking. So the people saying he should STFU are really just saying that we shouldnt know what the players think. There is an argument to be made for no press quotes; you could argue that they dont really matter and this isnt the WWE. But if you give in to the conceit of players and coaches giving press conferences (and remember -- it is REQUIRED of them), I dont know how you could want Sherman to be quiet. I mean, when a player is asked about this evolving story, do you want him to give a bunch of platitudes about team, focusing on the game etc.? I could write those quotes myself.

1) He is the best CB in football - maybe the second best defensive player.

2) He isn't talking out of his but. Sure he sometimes talks through his butt but it isn't quite the same thing.

I treasure players like him because they add fuel to the entertainment pyre.

and he is already setting the stage for an excuse. Bffs or not, Kraft's relationship with Goodell has already proven that it doesn't mean much. He's already been beaten twice in the Supe.

Kraft and Goodell may be buddies, but that didn't stop the league from stepping on the Patriots over spygate.

Everyone here knows that I am far from a fan of Goodell. But I do trust him to do what he feels is right in a situation like this, even if I don't always trust in his opinion on what right may be.

I'm not sure how I feel about this particular deflated ball issue yet.
He essentially has publically called the commissioner corrupt
steve in ky : 1/26/2015 2:40 pm : link
He should be fined heavily.

Being a straight shooter when it comes to the competition, or the play of himself or his team is one thing. But I don't see anything admirable in what he said. Even if he feels that way personally he is privileged to play in the NFL and get paid handsomely to do so, he should be a professional and have a little more respect.
This is gettign even more interesting...
RC02XX : 1/26/2015 2:55 pm : link
Brilliant marketing by a brash player (Sherman) comparing himself to another great CB (Revis)? Or just smack talk between two great but very grabby CB's?

Some funny tweets by Revis.

Quote:
PHOENIX — It was one of the few Twitter beefs that was actually interesting. Some two years ago, an up-and-coming star on the Seattle Seahawks named Richard Sherman kept comparing himself to an established talent, then playing for the New York Jets, named Darrelle Revis. Much trolling ensued.

Sherman had spent much of the 2012 season publicly comparing himself to Revis. It was brilliant marketing. Remember, while Sherman has an uber-profile now and is considered maybe the best cornerback in football, he didn't and wasn't then. So Sherman nudged and prodded and poked Revis until Revis had enough.

While stepping on them they always supposedly lost a great deal of tape with no explanation of how that happened.

very good cb, arguably one of the best - but you cannot judge him without weighing in the safeties he plays in front of, and the fact he plays a lot of zone coverage. and the front seven are very good, particularly in pass defense.

On a side note, going to interesting to see how Quinn fares implementing the system without those perfet personnel fits.
