Forget ‘anti-vaxxers.’ The Disney measles outbreak could change the minds of an even more crucial group. The child was behind on her vaccinations. Wendy Sue Swanson took note of this as she talked with the girl’s parents last week at a medical clinic in Mill Creek, Wash., outside Seattle. Swanson, like many pediatricians, sometimes needed to coax parents to get the shots for their children. A few might be unmovable in their objections. But most were like this couple: A mom and dad who might harbor doubts or were just behind schedule. They were at least willing to listen. Now, Swanson had a new way to prod parents like them: Discussing the Disney measles outbreak in California, which has spread to at least 68 people in 11 states since Jan. 1 and raised alarms about the reemergence of a disease once considered all but vanquished. There was something powerful about the disease hitting a popular, recognizable vacation spot. The girl got her vaccination. Her parents were on board. “Their eagerness was different,” Swanson said later. “I think it is changing people.” Much of the scrutiny in the Disney measles outbreak has fallen on an entrenched anti-vaccination movement in places such as Orange County, Calif., home to the two Disney theme parks where the outbreak gained its foothold. These “anti-vaxxers” are viewed as dead-set against vaccinations. But doctors believe the current outbreak could change the minds of a less-known but even larger group: parents who remain on the fence about the shots. These “vaccine-hesitant” parents have some doubt about vaccinations, leading them to question or skip some shots, stagger their delivery or delay them beyond the recommended schedule. An estimated 5 to 11 percent of U.S. parents have skipped at least one vaccination or delayed a shot, according to studies. That compares to only 1 to 3 percent of parents who object to all vaccinations. |

Nope...she has more important priority...being on that shitty reality TV show with her New Kids On The Block husband.
Why must you hate diversity of little dolls? You're the worst...even worse than the anti-vaxxers!
Your restraint in that situation was admirable....

"Jennie Behind Bars"
A new reality series on Cinemax that follows actress/model Jennie McCarthy through her incarceration. Viewers will get an indepth look at daily life in a women's medium security prison, including meal time, shower time, and sexy time.
50% of the proceeds of the show go to vaccine awareness.

In light of how popular Orange is the New Black has been, I can totally see this taking off.
The world's shortest man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi, from Nepal, recently visited It's a Small World.
He was reported to have been unimpressed.

Right? Ties into the zeitgeist of the country in so many ways. This can't fail. Plus...tits!
Jenny McCarthy Body Count - ( New Window )
It shows Jenny taking an endless round of aptitude tests, and discovering that her main skill is failing aptitude tests. And having large breasts.
I actually thought this as I started reading it. She and her ilk are scum. But the world is full of idiots. They get what they deserve for following the intellectual lead of a woman who literally has no other skill than to appear naked. She's so fucking annoying on every other subject as well. Lowered my opinion of Jim Carrey as anyone with his cash could have easily found someone less stupid and just as hot.

Not enough shower scenes. C'mon, MG, we need to work together here...

But even in that area she needed assistance. So what is she really good at other than sucking?

I'm sure he meant to imply that all the aptitude tests were given while she was showering, often with others in the "background" too.

Ah. Ok.

Great display with sound argument too bad they weren't smart enough to realize that their using such bad language in the piece would result in it being passed around less therefore less people that would actually benefit from watching wont.
I think they had a fairly good idea of who would be seeing it.

OK, I didn't realize it was from a show. Still would have likely done more good without the f-bombs but that at least better explains it.
I actually have a very good friend, a scientist no less, who believes that Wakefield was 'coerced' into his admission and that still believes he was right.
She's got an autistic daughter, so her proximity to the issue is why I write her a pass. I have tried on several occasions to talk her out of her position though.

It must be very difficult to accept that there may not be a clear answer on what caused autism in their own child, especially when they are scientists themselves. However, to then latch onto what has been proven to be a false study by attributing sinister actions by others seems to go counter to a scientist's own ethos of being unbiased (almost to the point of being dispassionate about the outcome). But as you said, when it comes to kids, you can't really explain or fully blame the parents.
Oh?
They also have a great epsiode on chiropractors. And one on bottled water.

I need to check out the Chiro one then, since i am on the verge of starting to use one regularly
She probably won't because I'm sure her parents got her vaccinated.
Oh really? Please tell us what was it then?
When a significant enough percentage of those who can get it and would have responded to it don't, that herd immunity is compromised to the point of outbreak.
So, yes, this has everything to do with the unvaccinated.
There are a number of articles on this ongoing incident, but the linked Wired.com article does a good job of what so many have been talking about with regards to the herd community concept.

Please try not to use anything resembling ration thought and facts. They aren't interested sadly.

This had zero to do with the unvaccinated .
A spread almost always has SOMETHING to do with the unvaccinated since there is a pretty small liklihood that a fully vaccinated person will catch measles. we are talking about a virus that was nearly totally eradicated in developed nations here.

Here you go. It's about alternative medicine in general and it's in 3 parts on youtube. Here is the first one.

That's one of topics that have been well covered as to why vaccination is so important. Those who either are too young or have some kind of autoimmune conditions that prevents them from getting the vaccine are especially vulnerable. And those who choose not to get their kids vaccinated are putting these most vulnerable people at heighten risk...and for what? Because they are idiots following some junk (fraudulent) medical study? Or because they get their medical advice from other idiots with big tits?
Not vaccinating your kid for your own selfish and stupid reason should be grounds for child abuse charge...almost as bad as those faith healers.

that there are some that are too young to get the vaccine and they also happen to be the most vulnerable if they do get measles. The vaccine isn't given until age 12 months and with a place like Disneyland, it's quite likely there are a number of unvaccinated infants there with older siblings.

One of my best friends has a child who is immunocompromised and can't get vaccinated, at least not yet. The highlight of her year is taking her kids to Disney World. Probalby a safe bet that isn't going to happen this year.
I loved the bottled water one.
I haven't watched it, but I think the lack of use of pesticide's etc is a large motivation for purchasing organic and not necessarily because of the taste.
