They or immediate family members should be the suspects

IIR this was almost a decade later than the infamous Alphabet killings in the Rochester area (young girls whose first and last name initials were the same - e.g. Carmen Colan) and some wondered if there was a link. (e.g. maybe the unknown killer of the unknown victim had been in jail on an unrelated charge for 10 years).
It is not how I would have behaved but I can envision a delinquent habitual runaway for whom the family said "good riddance".

Absolutely crazy that nobody reported her missing. She's from the same town that I live in.
