Izenberg has to be older than dirt. I loved reading his excellent writing as a teenager when he wrote for the Star Ledger; then battling with the much larger Newark Evening News (most every one in my neighborhood got two papers, Ledger in the morning and the News at night. Come to think if it, I was a paperboy for the News in the late 50's.)
Jerry wrote in the style of the old time literate and witty sports writers such as Ring Lardner or Damon Runion.
