Replays of Super Bowl XLVI Hail Mary Still Make Me Nervous

Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 8:26 pm
The damn thing almost rebounded into Gronkowski's hands.

i cringe every time
markky : 1/27/2015 8:27 pm : link
i see it. that was too close.

i also cringe at the pass attempt to Moss at the end of SB 42.
Same here. I still dont enjoy the ending as much as I should
Eli2Plax1017 : 1/27/2015 8:28 pm : link
because I think he's going to catch it...so frustrating, watched the highlight today, ugh
The Moss play was close. Just off of his fingertips.

It's like time actually slowed down while that ball was in the air
mfsd : 1/27/2015 8:31 pm : link
Kenny Phillips, just knock it down!!

I'll take a Super Bowl victory any way I can get it...

But that GREAT last drive by the Giants was weakened in terms of drama by the butt-first TD - plus had the Patriots scored at the end - the TD really would have come back to haunt them instead of just kneeling there.

Still, it has to be a kick in the balls to Belichick and Brady to lose to Coughlin and Manning like that again.

somebody should have boxed out Gronkowski too.
in terms

of Super Bowl XLII, the Steve Smith catch on 3rd-and-11 never gets any love.
And to think....
Sarcastic Sam : 1/27/2015 8:36 pm : link
If the ball was inflated to 13.5 psi, it might have hung in the air for a half second longer, allowing Hernandez to deflect the ball higher and Gronk to catch the ball on the rebound.

Absinthe rocks.
I can't fathom
bceagle05 : 1/27/2015 8:37 pm : link
what life would be like as a Giants fan if we had to live with a Super Bowl loss courtesy of a Hail Mary touchdown.

BrettNYG10 : 1/27/2015 8:39 pm : link
IIRC, Rolle was way out of position on that Hail Mary.
thank God we'll never know
markky : 1/27/2015 8:39 pm : link
i always turn the game off before the last drive for both 42 and 46. don't need to see it.

Same way Hurricanes fans have to live with Flutie Flakes.

It seems like Gronk gets closer to catching it everytime I watch it.

And the Moss play in XLII was painfully close too.
All night after that superbowl, I could cringe watching that replay
Moondawg : 1/27/2015 8:45 pm : link
exact same feeling.

Haha, well played!
You guys need to stop watching it!

...Or one of these times he's gonna make the catch and then what?
I know it was time to move on
bceagle05 : 1/27/2015 9:00 pm : link
but I miss Tuck. He was a beast in those Super Bowls.
the first 2 plays
bluepepper : 1/27/2015 9:03 pm : link
on that last drive were fortunate. Brady missed Branch for about a 20 yard gain and then Hernadez dropped one. Would have been a whole different drive. Instead of Hail Mary's, Brady probably would've been taking shots from the 20 or so ala Romo in '07. Talk about nervous.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 9:06 pm : link
the deep pass to Moss was close, but Corey Webster made a hell of a play there too.

XLVI is over if Welker catches that pass.
if Gront were healthier
spike : 1/27/2015 9:07 pm : link
the Pats wouldve taken the game.

No one on the Giants could guard that guy
but
Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 9:08 pm : link
the Giants may have really taken over the game if they don't call that phantom holding call on Boothe.
spike
Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 9:09 pm : link
a very beat up Giants team did beat New England in New England that same season with a healthy Gronk.
I thought
bceagle05 : 1/27/2015 9:13 pm : link
we were gonna kick New England's ass in SB46. I remember being furious at halftime that we were down a point.

Hold them to a FG. Get the ball back with plenty of time left. Score a TD. Very plausible scenario.
No sweat

either game.... Scotch helped, but really no sweat...
Great play by Webster….
Lurts : 1/27/2015 9:23 pm : link
but how does Moss get behind him in that situation?
The 4th and 16 conversion..
Sean : 1/27/2015 9:23 pm : link
on the Pats final drive still annoys me.

Giants got fucked over on that phantom hold. We deserved that miss
the heart attacks are part of what

Overlooked in the game..
Sean : 1/27/2015 9:33 pm : link
is how crucial those two Tynes FG's were to make it 17-15.

Tough crowd in here!

I admit to getting annoyed that Hostetler didn't get the 1st down on the last drive against the Bills in XXV. Or that Allegre missed the extra point that would've given us 40 against Denver not to mention that garbage time TD we gave up. 40-13 sounds so much better than 39-20. LOL..sort of a "first wold problem" I guess.

Used to make me cringe when I watched it too
_dnyl : 1/27/2015 9:57 pm : link
But after watching it over and over again last time I watched I realized that it's the camera angle that made it look closer than it really was. Gronk had no chance at it
You think that shit makes ya nervous?
dep026 : 1/27/2015 10:03 pm : link
I still think Norwood makes that FG every time he attempts it.
For while at the end of the 2nd quarter
BlackLight : 1/27/2015 11:05 pm : link
and the beginning of the 3rd in SB46, it really looked like the game was slipping away. But we pulled it together.
Lurts
Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 11:06 pm : link
I was more mad at the safety on that play. He was in no position to stop that deep pass.
Here's what I wonder about Norwood's kick
BlackLight : 1/27/2015 11:07 pm : link
How close was it to being good, really? Because, in real time, from the moment it leaves his feet, it wasn't going in. Had he kicked it perfectly straight, it would've hit the upright. But then they always show the slow motion of the kick from under the crossbar, and the ball looks like it practically kisses the upright on its way by.

thats where we are gonna rule again..

every four years..
play the AFC East...
Tom on the hot seat..

yup...

have the NFL right where we want them..
Jacobs Second Effort
Trainmaster : 1/27/2015 11:16 pm : link
on the 4th and 1 in SB XLII is a huge play that doesn't get enough comment / credit. If Jacobs doesn't make a successful second effort, no Tyree catch, no "Manning lobs it ...".

I miss the Jacobs and Bradshaw backfield.
I think it was everson walls
Essex : 1/27/2015 11:20 pm : link
But on the last bills drive somebody hung onto Thurman Thomas and if not he would still be running
Essex
Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/27/2015 11:21 pm : link
Yup, Everson Walls.
Yeah, that was Walls
BlackLight : 1/27/2015 11:21 pm : link
great tackle.
I thought Gronk was gonna catch that
Optimus-NY : 1/27/2015 11:39 pm : link
Holy shit. I still get queasy looking at that play. Kinda like wide right in that sense, even though it shouldn't have been from a statistical standpoint.
As long as we're talking big SB plays
Daniel in MI : 1/28/2015 12:58 am : link
In xxv, Ingram hopping on 1 foot, and lunging for the first down...just the epitome of not being denied.
Steve Smith's first down in the final drive of SB 42 was a big play -
Ira : 1/28/2015 1:56 am : link
especially for a rookie - that should get more credit. He always played smart.
@Eric
81_Great_Dane : 1/28/2015 2:02 am : link
Here's the great thing about that Hail Mary: No matter how many times you watch it, Gronkowski will never make that play. The Giants will always win.

Emil : 1/28/2015 7:19 am : link
I agree with you, to this day I still feel like he is going to catch that ball. In fact, I contend that a healthy Gronk would have caught that pass.

That is why I want NE to win this SB. Forever, it will be TC and the Giants that haunt Tom's and Bill's dreams.

That's nuts. Gronk's health had nothing to do with him not catching that pass. He was too far away from it to catch it, healthy or not. It wasn't that close to being caught no matter how nervous it made us
